The man kept his head bowed, shivering in fear. Ning Xuan activated her Vine Silk. With a BANG, black, blood-tinged Vine Silk burst from his body. He seed shocked to see it, then raised his head, his watery eyes looking around with utter innocence.

"He’s the assassin. Find out who he is," Ning Xuan said, turning to Yan Fuzhen.

"Yes," Yan Fuzhen acknowledged. The Security Bureau mber with the purple badge imdiately began running a series of procedures on his Light Computer. He collected the suspect’s iris data, took a blood sample for genetic comparison, investigated his private communications, personal inco sources, and transaction records, and perford a social network analysis.

"Suspect’s na is Wang Chen. Male Spirit Controller, age 21, Spiritual Power Level: A-level." The man with the purple badge held a fairly high rank in the Central Star Security Bureau and had high-level clearance for investigating suspects. In just a few monts, he had pulled up all the information on him.

"Miss Ning Chuchu, Wang Chen is your Contractor, and you were also present at the scene of the cri. We have reason to believe you are the mastermind behind this assassination attempt. Please co with us," the Security Bureau mber said, flashing his purple badge at Ning Chuchu with a cold expression.

"You’re framing an innocent person! I... I admit I set up that barrier earlier, but I was just testing the vigilance of the Contractor next to Miss Ning Xuan. It was just a joke! I did it all myself. What does this have to do with Miss Chuchu? On what grounds are you arresting her?" Wang Chen’s Superpower Talent was unique, which was exactly how he’d been able to lay a trap so discreetly. He knew he couldn’t deny setting the trap, so he confessed to that part. However, he refused to admit it was an assassination attempt, insisting it was all a joke.

The mont Ning Chuchu realized the Security Bureau wasn’t going to be lenient, she knew she was in trouble. She sent a distress ssage to Grandma Bai, and could now only pray that her grandmother would arrive quickly to save her.

"Sister, I know you hate , but I’ve always admired you. I truly had no idea Wang Chen would suddenly decide to test Major General Chen. This is my fault, too. I’ve told him many tis how much I envy you for having a Contractor as powerful as Major General Chen. He must have just been feeling competitive. I’m so sorry," Ning Chuchu said, playing along with the excuse Wang Chen had concocted.

Wang Chen was very confident in his unique Superpower Talent. ’No one outside could possibly know what happened inside the barrier. Ning Xuan and Chen Nan weren’t even hurt, so what proof do they have that I set them up to be killed? As long as I deny Ning Xuan’s accusation, what can they do? Even if the Security Bureau sides with her, it won’t matter.’

A cold look flashed across Yan Fuzhen’s face. He walked to Ning Xuan’s side. "Master, don’t let these people ruin your evening. Leave this to . I will ensure a satisfactory outco."

’Whether it’s Ning Chuchu or this little assassin, I have plenty of ways to make them die. It could be completely above board, or they could just disappear without a trace. It’s not like I need proof to get rid of them. Why waste ti listening to their pathetic excuses?’

"Take them away," Yan Fuzhen commanded. Several people imdiately closed in.

Ning Chuchu glanced at the crowd and saw that the people who had been taking photos and videos with their Light Computers had already put their devices away and retreated. Under the intimidating presence of the Security Bureau, none of them would dare spread a word of what they had fild or seen that night.

Ning Xuan had no doubt about Yan Fuzhen’s capabilities. She nodded. ’Ning Chuchu was a leech on this body’s original owner. Killing her would be a form of revenge for her. As long as Ning Chuchu dies, that’s all that matters. I don’t have to be the one to do it personally.’

Just as Ning Xuan was about to leave, an elderly voice called out. "Chuchu, my granddaughter, where are you? Who’s trying to bully you? Am I to believe the Bai Family has no one to stand up for it?"

"Grandmother! Chuchu is here! If you hadn’t co any sooner, they were going to drag your granddaughter away!" Joy surged in Ning Chuchu’s heart when she heard the voice, but she spoke through sobs, her face a mask of pitiful grievance.

Ning Xuan turned to look and saw a woman with a full head of silver hair approaching, flanked by a retinue of attendants.

She wore a magnificent, gold-threaded, cross-collared silk robe. A purple jade bracelet on her wrist rested atop the snow-white cuff of her inner sleeve. With every step, the pendant adorning her forehead refracted a cool light. Her phoenix eyes, so similar to Ning Chuchu’s, were slightly narrowed, the fine lines at their corners radiating an imposing dignity.

"I’d like to see who dares to touch a granddaughter of the Bai Family." Grandma Bai hadn’t originally paid much mind to Ning Chuchu and her questionable lineage. However, at one of the family’s banquets, Ning Chuchu had caught the eye of a certain dignitary. He wanted to take her and marry her to his son—a man whose spiritual power had collapsed, rendering him a complete invalid.

After that, Grandma Bai had ward up to Ning Chuchu, granting her many privileges and conveniences. Her plan was to let Ning Chuchu get used to being admired by all. ’Once you get a taste of power, you’re never willing to give it up.’

Grandma Bai strode forward nacingly, but she froze when she saw Ning Xuan. "You..." Ning Xuan had inherited her looks from Bai Xiwen. Although her features had been altered later, the underlying structure was still there, which was why Grandma Bai found her face so familiar.

’It wasn’t that she had ever placed much importance on her son, Bai Xiwen. In fact, she had given up on him the mont he rejected the family’s arrangents and ran away from ho. She never once inquired about what beca of him afterward.’

’It was just that Ning Xuan’s face bore a striking resemblance to her own daughter, Bai Xiurong, in her youth. The similarity was so strong that she could tell with a single glance that Ning Xuan had Bai Family blood.’

"Grandmother, this is my sister, the one I told you about!" Seeing Grandma Bai staring, Ning Chuchu knew Ning Xuan’s identity couldn’t be hidden any longer and decided to just co out with it.

Under the Federation’s system of genetic information collection, it was impossible for Ning Chuchu to fake or deny Ning Xuan’s identity. Ning Xuan’s father was listed as Bai Xiwen. In the space for Ning Chuchu’s father, it read: "Unknown." This was because Bai Xiwen had refused to acknowledge the child, so no paternity test had ever been perford.

"You’re Xiu Wen’s child?" Grandma Bai asked, her gaze toward Ning Xuan complex.

’One look at her face, and it was obvious she was from the Bai Family. A pity. According to Chuchu, Ning Xuan had been an ordinary person until a few months ago when she’d finally awakened her spiritual power. She was destined to be nothing more than a Low-level Female Spirit Controller, with no future to speak of.’

’But this child is so beautiful, even more stunning than her own most beautiful second daughter. Even as a low-level Spirit Controller, plenty of young masters from prominent families would be willing to have her.’
