Nina lowered her Pokedex with a sigh, just as an explosion sounded out in the distance. “Dammit, wtwo…” The girl cursed the unruly Legendary for what felt like the hundredth ti.

With a dejected motion, Nina released Nitey and Espy into the field.

“Es.”

“Niiiite!”

“Could you sense it, Espy? Whatever it is that wtwo found?”

“Es…” The Espeon shook her head with a pulse of frustration. Evidently, whatever thods the Legendary Psychic used was beyond her ans.

“Clair said not to stray too far but I can’t exactly stay here and do nothing either.” The girl hopped on to her Dragonite with her Espeon in tow. “C’mon, Nitey. Let’s get a little closer and do so recon.”

“Drago-niiiite.” The Dragonite gave his restless trainer an assuring pat then took off into the skies at a steady pace towards the distant commotion.

The ruckus, as it turned out, ca from the rim of a particularly daunting sinkhole — an abyss of pure darkness reaching deep into the ground. It was hard to see even with Nitey’s Draconic vision, but there were well hidden outposts scattered all around the surrounding forests, so well camouflaged that one could easily miss it at a passing glance.

“Es.”

“Yeah… I see it.” A shimring dod barrier surrounded the hole, which ant there was clearly sothing hidden within its bowels. “No doubt, that explosion was wtwo forcing his way in. Must’ve damaged sothing, the barrier wouldn’t be exposed like that. Where’s Ash, though? Do you guys see him?”

“Nite…” Nitey shook his head before pointing at a number of dark specks taking off towards them.

“Seems they’ve spotted us. Keep at a distance, Nitey. Let’s pull their attention away from base and take the heat off Ash and wtwo.”

“Dragoooo… NITE!” Nitey roared and began spiralling in the air, gathering up a belly full of Dragon Type Energy to form a destructive purple bead in his maw.

“Draco teor!”

“DRAGOOOO!!!”

The clouds parted and a barrage of Draconic pulses descended to bombard the surrounding outpost, incoming Flyers and a portion of the flickering barrier.

“We must’ve hit sothing important. Keep it up, Nitey!”

“NIIIIITE!!!”

Another Dragon Dance and another Draco teor. But Team Rocket wouldn’t go down that easily. Because soon after, a familiar wave of malice and grief filled the air, accompanied by an excruciating howl.

An ominous dark light exploded and faded to reveal the supersized figures of a pair of ga Tyranitar and ga Aggron, their eyes mad with frenzy and sinister looking black crystal antennas protruding from their scalps.

“TYYYYYY!!!”

“GROOOON!!!”

The faux gas howled and intercepted the destructive barrage with walls of Steel and Ground.

“They really gotta do it this way, huh?”

“Es.”

“Right, can’t be wasting ti. Ash and wtwo are deep in enemy territory. Let’s do this, Nitey!” Nina pulled her pendant out from her shirt.

“RIOOOOOO!!!”

But before she could act, an Aura filled with belligerent pride flared and a golden silhouette pierced through the walls to crash against the ga Aggron. At the sa ti, Nina could hear the familiar roar of a ga Gyarados, followed by a Hydro Pump tearing into the ga Tyranitar.

“Lily! Everyone! They’re here!” Nina cheered and looked behind her to see a massive flash of light that deposited a large number of League affiliated trainers and their respective Pokemon, a boisterous laugh sounding out from the distance.

“WAHAHAHAHA! Do not fear! The cavalry is here!” echoed the ever powerful voice of Bruno of the Elite Four.

The proclamation was accompanied by a gust of wind as an entire storm of Air Slashes descended upon the rabble of Rocket mbers scrambling to reorganise — Falkner and his ga Pidgeot. Nina could practically feel the nobleman’s dignity blanket the vast blue skies, underlined by a current of barely simring disdain as the clouds parted in his wake.

“Aweso!!!”

Then, with a thundering boom, an orange blur erged next to Nina and Nitey in Extre Speed — the regal visage of Clair and her Dragonite. The Blackthorn matriarch made the act of sitting atop a tubby orange Barney seem so effortless and graceful.

“lina Jones, a pleasure to et your acquaintance at last.”

“Lady Clair!” Nina swooned, Clair’s smoky smooth voice sending tingles down her spine. If she were still a man, Nina would be on all fours and barking like a Growlithe right now.

The woman smiled. “May I trouble you for a summary of events?” She asked, right as the rest of her clan mbers joined in with a whole squadron of Dragonites, Charizards and Gyarados.

Nina nodded. “Ash Ketchum and wtwo just forced their way into the barrier.” She gestured towards the sinkhole down below. “We suspect that Team Rocket has their secret base hidden deep within that—”

“Es.”

“Nite!”

A slew of images and intent ca through from Espy. Apparently, Nitey, now that he was attuned to Infinity Energy, noticed sothing about the sinkhole and had Espy relay his thoughts.

Nina’s eyes widened. “That sinkhole… It’s a well of Infinity Energy!”

Clair frowned. “What does that an?”

Nina’s mind churned in conjunction with Espy’s, digging through everything they knew of Infinity Energy and piecing them together to extrapolate the implications behind Team Rocket’s arrangent. “We know that Giovanni wants to break his way through the walls of our reality. Which ans…”

The girl gasped and looked back up at Clair. “Professor Oak said that Infinity Energy has properties akin to fluid!” The noblewoman cocked a brow and urged Nina to continue. “That ans it naturally follows the path of least resistance — that of gravity!”

Nina pointed down at that gaping abyss once again. “The purpose of that sinkhole is to gather and store Infinity Energy in the most efficient way possible! The brains behind Team Rocket’s science, they’re trying to create a hyper-saturated environnt dense with Infinity Energy!”

The girl then gestured towards all the surrounding ga Pokemon currently in the throes of battle. The air vibrated and Nina could feel it, as with all the combatants, the discordant noise of Type Energy pollution. Combine that with such a large collection of ga Pokemon in one place, the threads of reality seed to almost quiver at the seams, screaming out in strain.

“When Infinity Energy gets involved, the walls of reality start to get a little wonky… Malleable! Giovanni and his goons, they’re taking advantage of that to open up an Ultra Wormhole at the bottom of this well!”

Clair’s frown deepened. “I cannot claim to understand the complexities of such a science. Simply tell us what needs to be done.”

Nina’s face hardened as she glared down into the pitch dark well. “We need to get in there. All the way to the bottom. That’s where Giovanni will be.”

Clair nodded and raised a fist to signal her subordinates. “Then so be it. I will take the helm. lina Jones, follow behind our formation. We will carve a path downwards.”

Nina nodded. “Best not to ga Evolve in the well. We don’t want to saturate it with even more Infinity Energy.” Though she suspected it was already too late. More than likely, Team Rocket had already gathered all that they needed for the wormhole, hence why they were in the process of opening it right now.

“Noted.” And with that, the squad of Dragon Tars charged, taking on a conical formation with a Gyarados at the prow to act as a battering ram.

Nina, though, was sitting snug in the center, right behind Clair, the turbulent winds whipping against her face under that violent descent. She held tight onto Nitey’s collar, gritted her teeth and watched as a number of faux ga Pokemon surged up to et them; a couple of ga Pidgeots, ga Pinsirs, ga Gyarados and a ga Aerodactyl.

Clair’s Aura flared, imbuing the mbers of the assault team with pride and courage as she raised a palm to signal her subordinates.

““CHAAAR!””

““DRAGOOO!!!””

Before the fake gas could clash with the Gyarados, a number of Blackthorns peeled off from the formation and slamd into the encroaching gas, reducing the number of Clair’s squadron by half.

The air quaked and Nina groaned while the clashing Pokemon spiralled in the air, just barely clearing their way by a tiny margin and even prompting another Dragonite to join in and intercept the sheer bulk of the opposing ga Gyarados.

“Es!” A Psychic barrier ford around Nina and Nitey right as a last ditch Hyper Beam ca their way, taking down another one of their mbers who failed to dodge and just barely clipping Espy’s barrier as Nitey swerved.

Heaven and earth swirled all around them while myriad colourful projectiles surged. Nina felt dizzy, her ears were ringing from sheer adrenaline, senses overloaded.

Angry roars, that tallic sll of blood and viscera, the shaking, the turbulence, and the overwhelming flashes of color and light. Nina thought, this must be what fighter pilots in her old world felt when in the midst of a hectic dogfight.

And in front of her, Clair and her Dragonite deftly maneuvered around the chaos, their regal Aura serving as a beacon for their squadron — a flag for Nina and the rest of the Blackthorn to rally behind no matter how disparate and broken the formation beca.

It had only been less than a minute since their assault began and yet it had felt like hours. Nina desperately wanted to close her eyes and hide away from the vertigo. But she couldn’t allow herself to. She needed to be aware and present.

“DOOOOOSSS!!!”

And before she knew it, they had arrived and their leading Gyados roared, eyes glowing red in Outrage as it crashed into the barrier in a full-powered Iron Head and Dragon Rush combo.

The barrier rang, cracks running down its shell against the Gyarados’s crown. The do flickered ever so slightly, winking in and out under the sea-serpent's fury but stubbornly held on, nearly broken but not quite.

That was, until Clair got involved and her Dragonite chid in with Extre Speed, Dragon Rush and a rapid series of punches. Fire, Thunder and Draconic fists slamd into the barrier and, like glass, the barrier shattered, creating a fissure just large enough to fit a Dragonite.

“Extre Speed, Nitey! Get in there right now!”

“DRAGOOOO!!!”

The world blurred and before she knew it, Nina was through, the abyssal darkness of the sinkhole staring right back at her.

“We did it! Lady Clair!” Nina cheered and looked back in glee, only to imdiately deflate when she saw the sight on the other side of the barrier, of a Gyarados falling out of the sky and Clair’s Dragonite tussling with a ga Aerodactyl in the air. The fissure they created steadily healing even as the barrier flickered precariously.

“Damn it! We need to find whatever’s powering that barrier! Any ideas, Espy?”

“Es!” The Espeon shook her head and instead pointed towards the hole in the ground where a radiant light flared and a familiar Psychic voice howled in rage, blanketing the minds of everyone present with a transcendent Aura.

“wtwo! He ga Evolved! That ans he must be in trouble!” Nina bit down on her lip in frustration. “The ti for subtlety’s long gone, Nitey. Super Hyper Nitey Cosmic Sapphire teor Scattershot Edition! We’re razing this place to the ground!”

“DRAGOOOOO!!!” The Dragonite roared in affirmation as his collar glead and the iridescent light of ga Evolution took hold.

“Es!” anwhile, Espy cried out in indignation and added “ft. the Genius and Unparalleled Insight of Espy the Beautiful,” a crucial component to the move’s na.
