At this moment, the person asking the question saw the man crouching motionlessly in front of the lamp, feeling somewhat strange.
"Old Zhao, what are you doing squatting there?" he asked in a lowered voice.
Old Zhao didn’t respond at all.
The questioner frowned slightly but didn’t suspect anything, taking a step forward.
"Old Zhao, why aren’t you speaking? If Mentor Lu sees you squatting here, you might get reprimanded."
As he spoke, he reached out to pat Old Zhao’s shoulder, but just as his hand touched Old Zhao’s shoulder.
Old Zhao suddenly turned his head, staring at this person with blood-red eyes.
The person was startled, but before he could let out a scream, Old Zhao bit his wrist.
With a crunch, Old Zhao bit through this person’s wrist fiercely.
Blood spurted out, and then the person let out a miserable scream.
"Ahhhhh!"
Such a big motion naturally attracted everyone’s attention.
Lu You reacted the fastest, dashing forward.
At this moment, the man called Old Zhao was biting into the wrist, chewing frenziedly.
As the crunching sound came, bone fragments mixed with blood flowed from the corners of his mouth, and even so, his face was still filled with a foolish smile.
This strange and terrifying scene was truly chilling.
And as Lu You reached the scene, Old Zhao spat out the already inplete wrist, pouncing at Lu You like a ferocious beast.
Lu You sidestepped, dodging the attack, and struck down, landing a blow on Old Zhao’s back.
With a thud, Old Zhao hit the ground.
Lu You hadn’t used full force with this blow, but even so, it shattered his spine, rendering him immobile.
Yet, even in this state, Old Zhao wriggled on the ground like a maggot, letting out indistinct low growls, truly like a mad dog.
"Hold him down, be careful not to get bitten!" Lu You manded in a deep voice.
Several people rushed forward to firmly restrain Old Zhao on the ground.
Another person bandaged the wound of the one with the broken wrist.
"What happened?" Wei Rulan also arrived at this time.
Lu You shook his head, "I don’t know. Old Zhao has worked with me for many years, always reliable and steady, never like this before."
Wei Rulan furrowed his brows, falling into deep thought.
By now, Old Zhao was tied up tightly, yet he continued to growl like a beast, his eyes blood-red and frightening.
This sudden incident added a layer of gloom to the already oppressive atmosphere in the mand room.
Many faces were heavy with worry.
Because no one knew what was going on.
Amidst this silence, suddenly, the doctor tending to the person’s broken wrist also screamed.
Soon after, the person with the broken wrist, as if mad, knocked the doctor to the ground, opening his bloody mouth to bite.
This sudden scene shocked everyone present.
Although several guards were nearby, they were also stunned, watching in shock as the one with the broken wrist tore at the doctor’s face.
The doctor’s screams seemed they would blow off the ceiling.
Lu You was also startled, but he, unlike the others, reacted much faster, rushing up intending to control the person with the broken wrist.
But unlike before, the person with the broken wrist had decent strength, and with him biting down on the doctor’s chin, Lu You was unable to pull him away even with force.
While at a loss, Wei Rulan’s voice came from behind.
"Don’t hesitate any longer, kill him immediately!"
This order sent a shiver through Lu You, but out of reverence for Wei Rulan, he almost instinctively carried out the order.
Pop!
He palm-smashed the head of the person with the broken wrist, and with brain matter splattered, the man finally collapsed to the ground.
The doctor on the ground, face full of blood, cried out, "Mentor, save me! Mentor, save me!"
Lu You reached out intending to help, but Wei Rulan’s icy voice came from behind once more.
"I said the ones to be killed include him too!"
This stunned not only Lu You but everyone else as well.
The doctor stopped crying, staring blankly at Wei Rulan.
"Boss..."
Wei Rulan wasted no words, flipping a delicate handgun into his hand before shooting the doctor on the ground several times.
Though small, the gun was incredibly powerful.
After a few deafening shots, upon looking again at the doctor on the ground, his head and upper body had been blasted to pieces, dead beyond doubt.
Not stopping there, before others could react, Wei Rulan raised an arm and shot Old Zhao, who was already subdued to the side.
Bang!
With the shot, a gaping hole appeared at Old Zhao’s forehead, and he slowly collapsed, silent.
This decisive and ruthless scene brought an extreme quiet to the entire mand room.
Wei Rulan remained expressionless, "They were all infected, and if not promptly executed, none of us would have been spared!"
Infected?
The word left those present looking at each other in disbelief.
But as they were puzzled, rapid footsteps suddenly were heard outside the mand room, and a blood-stained soldier rushed in.
Just after entering, he shouted, "Boss, Mentor Lu, outside many brothers have suddenly turned and started slaughtering colleagues, the situation is out of control!"
"What?" Lu You exclaimed.
Chaos erupted in the room.
Without hesitation, Wei Rulan immediately ordered, "Open the quarantine window!"
Due to the failure of all electronic equipment, the headquarters’ quarantine window to the outside required manpower to open.
When several subordinates struggled to push open the heavy quarantine window, the scene revealed outside stunned everyone.
The planet where Saint Diss was located had pletely fallen into chaos, with smoke billowing, flames shooting high, and shouting and killing constant.
Looking farther into the void, fleets of ships were also attacking each other, with occasional violent explosions.
"What... what’s going on?" Lu You was somewhat dazed.
Wei Rulan took a deep breath, then slowly said, "It’s the work of the Star Ring. It must have used some method we don’t understand to control these people, driving them into hysterical madness."
"And whoever is bitten by them in this state will quickly be infected! Just like zombies in movies," Wei Rulan explained.
"Then... what do we do?" Lu You almost cried in panic.
Though he was Saint Diss’s mentor, capable of articulating grand principles from the podium, he was pletely bewildered by this unprecedented spectacle.
