The dagger plunged forward silently. With the sound of tearing flesh, it seed a bewitching, lotus-like bloom of garish red was about to blossom quietly by the sofa...
But... in the next second, Chen Xiang was dumbfounded.
He was prepared to die the mont the dagger pierced his chest, but it had only just broken the skin. It was impossible to push it any deeper, let alone into his heart.
It was as if a powerful, Formless force in the air was stopping him from taking his own life.
His eyes widened and his entire body froze. The dagger was rely pressed tightly against his chest.
'What's going on? Did the Snake Spirit go back on its word? Does it want to hurt my wife and make live in endless agony?'
That would be the most lethal, bloodless way to kill a man.
Having failed to kill himself, Chen Xiang's body trembled with even greater fear.
"You do have so affection for Shu Yao, after all."
The strange voice sounded again, no longer as cold, but much softer. Instantly, a brilliantly shimring Gold and Silver Snake was reflected in Chen Xiang's eyes.
The Gold and Silver Snake floated out from so unknown corner, magically hovering before Chen Xiang's eyes.
"Y-Y-You..."
Chen Xiang stamred as he stared at the hovering Gold and Silver Snake. "You're not the Snake Spirit. Who... who are you?"
He imdiately recognized that this Gold and Silver Snake was not the Snake Spirit that had possessed him.
"You don't need to know who I am. After this mont, the nightmare for you and for her ends here."
"What do you an? What do you an?"
Chen Xiang didn't understand, staring blankly at the hovering Gold and Silver Snake before him.
"You have passed my test of death. From now on, please treat her well."
The dagger he had plunged into his chest with all his might was not the hand of the Death God, but a blossoming flower, bursting with life.
Hearing this, Chen Xiang was stunned. "I don't have to die?"
The hovering Gold and Silver Snake watched him quietly, saying nothing. But amazingly, Chen Xiang thought he saw a hint of a gratified smile on its face.
Suddenly, a heavy sensation descended on his mind, as if he'd been struck by a sledgehamr. His eyes rolled back, and he collapsed next to the sofa, his head coming to rest right beside Shu Yao's.
The scene made them look like a pair of star-crossed lovers, determined to be together even in death.
'Consciousness, envelop. mories, erase.'
In the air, a powerful Consciousness Power enveloped the man and woman, erasing, bit by bit, the nightmarish mories the Snake Embryo had brought them.
「Ten minutes later...」
"Ding... Congratulations to the Host for completing the Snake Born Woman quest. Level increased by one. Reward: 100,000 Power of Faith."
An intense white light descended from the sky, enveloping the Gold and Silver Snake.
"Ding... Host's Power of Faith has reached 100,000. The Shop has been successfully unlocked."
Updating data...
Host: Tu Xiao'an.
Identity: Rank One Awakened Creature.
Level: Level 18 (0/500,000)
Power of Faith: 153,500 (Continuously increasing)
Shop: Unlocked.
Skills: Power of Thunder and Lightning.
Glancing casually at the stat sheet, Tu Xiao'an smiled. 'Looks like that Snake Spirit kept its word and has already scramd out of Bai Town's borders.'
This Snake Embryo quest had been very rewarding for Tu Xiao'an. A Level up, one hundred thousand Power of Faith, and most importantly, he had even subjugated a freakishly strong Mutated Two-headed Snake as a pet.
'The Shop is finally unlocked. Let see what kind of treasures are inside.'
But suddenly... the man and woman on the sofa began to show signs of waking. Tu Xiao'an vanished on the spot.
On the sofa, Shu Yao slowly opened her eyes, looking lost and confused. Then she saw Chen Xiang beside her and gasped, quickly shaking him. "Honey, honey, what's wrong with you? Wake up!" she said nervously.
After being shaken a few tis, Chen Xiang also slowly opened his eyes. Seeing Shu Yao, he asked groggily, "Honey, what's wrong?"
Shu Yao's face was pale. She pointed around their ho and said uneasily, "Honey, look. I think our ho's been robbed."
In the small, sub-100-square-ter apartnt, everything was a ss. Belongings were scattered everywhere in complete disarray, looking as if a gang of thieves had ransacked the place.
Chen Xiang shot up from the floor. Their once cozy little ho was now completely unrecognizable.
"Damn thieves! Is there no law anymore?" Chen Xiang stomped his foot in anger. Then, rembering sothing, he looked Shu Yao up and down. Seeing that she was unhard, he smiled.
Seeing the smile on his face, Shu Yao pretended to be angry and gave him a light pinch. "Are you being silly, honey? Go and see if anything's missing."
"I don't need to look. As long as I haven't lost you, everything's fine."
He spoke softly, his eyes full of tenderness as he gazed at Shu Yao's lovely face.
"Hm?"
Shu Yao paused for a mont, an unintentional blush creeping onto her face. "So cheesy," she chided shyly.
Saying such corny things at a ti like this... but she found it incredibly sweet.
Chen Xiang pulled Shu Yao into his arms, feeling an imnse sense of satisfaction. For so reason, all he wanted to do right then was hold her like this.
Shu Yao nestled in his arms like a little bird. Her long eyelashes fluttered as she said with a hint of confusion, "Honey, I think I had a nightmare, but I can't rember what it was about at all."
He froze for a second, then replied, "I think I had a nightmare too. It felt pretty terrifying."
"What was it about?"
Chen Xiang looked down at her. Her face was flushed red, as shy and delicate as a water lotus in a gentle breeze. He placed a light kiss on her forehead. "I can't rember either."
Hearing this, Shu Yao quickly struggled out of his embrace, her face filled with worry. "This is terrible! We both had nightmares. Sothing bad must be about to happen."
"Silly girl, dreams are the opposite of reality. From now on, our lives will only get better and better. We'll work hard to turn our family of two into a family of three."
"Mhm, mhm, mhm!"
Shu Yao nodded eagerly, her eyes full of hope for the future.
Chen Xiang pulled Shu Yao into a tight embrace again. He didn't know why, but it felt as if his love for the woman before him had grown even deeper. On so subconscious level, it was as if he had already lost her once before.
"Honey, I'll work hard to make you happy for the rest of your life."
Amid the wreckage of the room, a man's resolute vow echoed, seeming to erupt from the depths of his soul.
In a dark corner, a pair of luminous eyes held a Snake Gaze, watching the cuddling man and woman. He smiled sincerely.
'If I could live my life over again, I would definitely do better than before.'
Such an unrealistic sentint is often repeated like a mantra. But unfortunately, ti will never turn back for anyone, and you never get a chance to start over from scratch.
But Tu Xiao'an had given this young couple a chance to start over.
With the nightmarish mories gone, their cruel experiences no longer existed.
Only with an ending like this could his quest be considered complete.
