Lin Xinghai could see that as soon as he asked the question, the blush on Liu Miaomiao’s face spread all the way to the tips of her ears. Her watery eyes held a look of both indignation and anger.
The air seed to freeze. Then, Lin Xinghai watched as Liu Miaomiao spun around and ran off.
"Er... ’I probably should have been more tactful,’" Lin Xinghai reflected. After mulling it over for a few minutes and failing to co up with a perfect solution, he could only shake his head in resignation and return to the shooting range.
"Finished chatting with your little girlfriend already?" Fang Tianhe asked with a chuckle as Lin Xinghai entered.
"Yeah, pretty much," Lin Xinghai replied noncommittally.
"This shooting program you’ve started really blew away. I feel like after just two days of this, it’s possible for their Gun Technique to double," Fang Tianhe praised.
"Doubling is an exaggeration. The more they advance, the harder it is to improve. I estimate an average improvent of about 30%! Of course, for soone with a poor foundation in Gun Technique, like Xu Haishui, the margin for improvent is probably larger, but even then, 50% is the absolute ceiling," Lin Xinghai said, shaking his head.
"The way you say that... If word got out that the Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps could improve soone’s Gun Technique by 10% in just two days of special training, believe , we’d be mobbed with applicants—let alone 30%," Fang Tianhe said with a laugh. He felt that Lin Xinghai was a gold mine; the longer they knew him, the more surprises he delivered.
Not every Divine Sharpshooter is a good teacher of Gun Technique. It requires a profound theoretical foundation and a keen eye to spot soone’s problems and offer solutions.
And Lin Xinghai excelled at all of this. The results spoke for themselves. After just five hours of training, Fang Tianhe could already sense a distinct improvent in everyone.
If he didn’t have to pay visits to other high-ranking military officials, he would have stayed behind and asked Lin Xinghai for so pointers himself.
After one last look around, Fang Tianhe prepared to leave. Just then, Liu Miaomiao unexpectedly returned, holding a food container.
"I went to a restaurant to get this for you. You should eat first and work later!" Liu Miaomiao said, her face red. She handed the container to Lin Xinghai and then scurried away again.
"Tsk! How thoughtful of her," Fang Tianhe remarked. Then, a thought struck him, and he asked, a little puzzled, "It’s this late and you haven’t eaten yet?"
"It’s not just . Not a single one of those guys in there has taken a break to eat," Lin Xinghai said, sounding rather exasperated.
Fang Tianhe was surprised for a mont, but then it made sense to him. If an opportunity like this had co along when he was a young rcenary, he would have done everything to seize it, too.
With the Physique of the Optimized, skipping a al or two was nothing. They wouldn’t starve even if they went without food for a few days.
So in the end, he just smiled, said a simple, "Thanks for your hard work," to Lin Xinghai, and rushed off.
When it ca to the fight against the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps, the more prepared they were, the better.
Lin Xinghai, for his part, went back into the shooting range. He walked over to a table and opened the food container.
To his surprise, Liu Miaomiao hadn’t bought him a bland High Level Nutritional al. Instead, she had gone out of her way to a hot pot restaurant to get him a serving of spicy hot pot. Food like this was by no ans cheap.
’She’s actually quite thoughtful,’ Lin Xinghai muttered to himself and began to dig in.
He was enjoying his al, but the other people in the High Level training area weren’t having such a good ti.
While it was true that the Optimized could skip a al or two without issue, that didn’t an they didn’t feel hunger. If Lin Xinghai had been eating a standard nutritional al, they could have just endured it.
But the spicy, fragrant aroma of the hot pot, a mix of various ats and vegetables, wafted through the air. It was enough to whet the appetite of soone who wasn’t even hungry, to say nothing of a group that had been training at high intensity for five hours.
"Brother Hai, how much for a serving of that spicy hot pot?" Xu Haishui asked, swallowing hard. He usually made do with a nutritional al, but for so reason, he had a special craving for sothing different today.
"No idea. Soone brought it for ," Lin Xinghai replied casually, picking up a slice of lotus root and popping it into his mouth. The spicy flavor, mixed with the fresh fragrance and crisp texture of the lotus root, was simply divine.
"Liu Miaomiao brought it?" asked Roger, who had also been drawn over by the sll.
"Yep." Lin Xinghai nodded.
"Who’s Liu Miaomiao?" Xu Haishui asked curiously. Since Liu Miaomiao hadn’t visited the rcenary Corps headquarters before, most of the mbers didn’t know who she was.
"Soone’s little girlfriend, of course," Roger said with a pout, a hint of envy in his voice.
"What the hell? Stop with the PDA already! I can’t take it, I’m starving. I’m going out to get sothing to eat," Xu Haishui grumbled as he headed for the door.
And where one went, others followed. Soon, the rest of the mbers began leaving in batches to buy food or have drones deliver High Level Nutritional als.
’Now this is more like it,’ Lin Xinghai mumbled to himself.
Once everyone had eaten, they resud their continuous training, with Lin Xinghai continuing to offer guidance.
He didn’t leave the rcenary Guild until midnight, returning to his dorm in the Lower Level District to sleep.
The other rcenaries continued to train in shifts. As for guidance, Lin Xinghai had already said just about everything he needed to over the past several hours.
Everyone knew their own weaknesses, and it was up to them to overco and correct them. So, as far as Lin Xinghai was concerned, his absence for one night wouldn’t hinder their progress.
When he returned to his old dorm, it was completely empty. It looked like Liu Miaomiao and the others had done a thorough cleaning before they left. The room was simple, but it was spotless and tidy.
’Still, I’m not used to this,’ Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but mutter as he lay on his bed.
He had already made up his mind: tomorrow, he would move to the Middle Level District. He wasn’t thinking about the rcenary Guild dorms, though. He planned to rent a large, independent house for himself. That would make it easier to invite Liu Miaomiao to co and live with him in the future.
Musing on these plans, Lin Xinghai soon fell asleep.
The next day, at 7 a.m., just as his alarm went off, there was a knock at the door.
Lin Xinghai got out of bed and opened the door. He saw Liu Miaomiao and Wang Yao standing outside, holding a breakfast box first thing in the morning.
"I brought you breakfast," Liu Miaomiao said. She set the container down, still not daring to look Lin Xinghai in the eye, and then rushed off.
"What did you do to Miaomiao yesterday? She’s been acting all strange ever since she got back," Wang Yao couldn’t help but ask.
"Er... nothing much," Lin Xinghai said evasively. ’Telling her what happened would probably only embarrass Liu Miaomiao even more,’ he thought.
"Okay, then." Seeing that Lin Xinghai wasn’t willing to elaborate, a faint trace of disappointnt flickered in Wang Yao’s eyes before she, too, left.
’This won’t work,’ Lin Xinghai mused, rubbing his chin as he watched their two slender figures retreat. ’It’s the second day and she’s still this shy. How are we supposed to communicate in the future?’
