The convoy advanced steadily through the city. By now, they had already traveled three kiloters. Over this period, the mbers of the Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps had finally co to accept Lin Xinghai’s imnse power.
The group’s complicated emotions gradually transford into pure ecstasy.
The Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps was finally enjoying the sa treatnt the Mountain and Sea rcenary Corps had before: scooping up Elental Crystals right off the ground.
Inside the cockpit, Fang Tianhe and the others were feeling excited, emotional, and a little uneasy.
Looking at the ground littered with zombie corpses, they realized that although they had been sowhat ntally prepared, they had never imagined Lin Xinghai would be this powerful.
"Looks like after this mission, we can promote Ah Xing to vice-captain. With his reputation, I feel like he’s even more respected than I am," Fang Tianhe said with a wry smile.
"And his benefits package... what we estimated before isn’t nearly enough. With his level of strength, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to give him 40% of the profits from a single mission," Shen Han added, his expression complicated.
"This... Brother Hai is so strong, I feel like we don’t even need to do anything on missions! Doesn’t that make us seem useless?" Xu Haishui said, scratching his head. He really hadn’t gotten used to sothing as good as just picking up Elental Crystals.
"You were already useless to begin with," Wu Yan retorted. "But you don’t have to worry about that. Ah Hai has his own vassal rcenary corps, so he’ll probably have to split his ti between us and them. When Ah Hai isn’t here, you can finally be of so use."
Xu Haishui shot up as if a wolf’s tail had been stepped on and fired back, "What do you an ’be of so use’? Besides being a little taller..."
"That’s enough!" Fang Tianhe cut off their bickering. "We’re only five kiloters from the destination now. The probability of being ambushed by the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps is increasing. Everyone, return to your squads and get ready."
In his opinion, this squabbling was pointless. Besides, with Lin Xinghai’s talent, he didn’t think the young man would stay in Star Shield Shelter for much longer.
So, worrying about all this was useless. The most important thing for them now was to use Lin Xinghai’s influence to strengthen the rcenary Corps as much as possible before he left.
Hearing Fang Tianhe speak, both Wu Yan and Xu Haishui imdiately acknowledged his order and returned to their squad’s Armored Vehicle.
Fang Tianhe and Shen Han didn’t linger either, each returning to their own cha cockpit, ready to respond to whatever happened next.
Even Roger was called back to his cha to be on standby.
Fang Tianhe had originally arranged for soone else to reload Lin Xinghai’s ammunition, but his offer was refused.
Lin Xinghai had called Ling Xiu over to help directly.
He had summoned Ling Xiu not just to help with reloading. More importantly, the lead vehicle offered the best field of view, which would allow Ling Xiu to make the most of his Thousand-Mile Eye Superpower.
And so, the convoy pressed on. At first, the atmosphere was excellent. After all, everyone was happy to be picking up Elental Crystals along the way.
But as they gradually neared their destination, the mood grew increasingly tense.
The deeper they went into the city, the more complex the terrain beca, making it more favorable for an ambush. This also ant the probability of encountering the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps was rising.
Everyone’s focus naturally sharpened. They constantly scanned the surrounding buildings, terrified that the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps might suddenly charge out.
This situation even led to so of the rcenaries getting injured.
After all, even if Lin Xinghai cleared out all the zombies in front of the convoy, it didn’t an they were completely safe. Zombies could rush out from the buildings lining the streets at any mont.
So rcenaries were injured precisely because they were focusing so hard on the surrounding buildings that, during a mont of carelessness, they were wounded by a few charging zombies.
Fang Tianhe was helpless in the face of this. He couldn’t tell everyone to lower their guard, as that would be fatal, but if everyone’s nerves were stretched too taut, that would also cause problems.
For now, the situation was an unsolvable dilemma.
It wasn’t just the regular rcenaries; even his own emotions were starting to waver.
As the atmosphere grew ever more tense, the group finally arrived at the mission location in the East District.
In the lead vehicle, the driver, Qin Yang, stopped just outside the mission area and asked timidly over the comms channel, "Captain, should we proceed?"
When they were drawing up their battle plan, everyone had guessed that the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps would ambush them on the way to the mission location. Now that their judgnt had proven wrong, their morale had undoubtedly taken a hit.
"Go in. Execute the mission," Fang Tianhe said in a low voice.
"Yes, sir!" Qin Yang said as the Armored Vehicle started up and entered the mission area.
In truth, the so-called mission location wasn’t much different from other parts of the city. The only unknown was whether this area contained any valuable instrunts.
The convoy’s speed was therefore unaffected. As for Lin Xinghai, he continued to steadily kill one zombie after another, as if completely undisturbed.
However, he had fully extended his Perception Power. Any object that entered his 330-ter Perception Range would have nowhere to hide.
That’s right. In the two days since his breakthrough, Lin Xinghai’s Perception Range had increased by another 30 ters. However, he could also feel that this rate of growth was noticeably slower than before.
It seed the stronger his Perception Power got, the slower it grew. He estimated it would be at least another week before its growth stopped completely.
Of course, Lin Xinghai wasn’t worried about this. After all, in his current state, he had a certain degree of self-preservation capability no matter what situation he faced.
For instance, right now, relying on his Perception Power and Speed, he was confident he could evade an attack from the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps no matter when or where they struck.
Thus, he could be said to be the calst person on the scene.
The eight streets of the East District were swept through one by one. Wherever the rcenary Corps passed, not a single zombie was left alive.
The first street... the fifth street... the eighth street. By the ti they were exploring the eighth street, it wasn’t just the regular rcenaries; even Fang Tianhe was filled with doubt.
’Did they not get the ssage? But given the Morgan Conglorate’s intelligence-gathering capabilities, that’s impossible!’
’Or do they plan to ambush us on our way back? But how can they be sure we’ll take the sa route?’
One question after another surfaced in Fang Tianhe’s mind.
Just then, Lin Xinghai felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of dread, which instantly put him on high alert. His eyes scanned the surroundings, and his Perception Power continuously probed the area, checking if he had missed anything.
But neither his eyes nor his Perception Power detected any anomalies.
However, that sense of dread grew more and more distinct as the vehicle moved forward.
"Stop. Sothing’s not right," Lin Xinghai imdiately shouted over the comms channel.
