Staring at the four corpses on the ground, Zeng Hong was still in disbelief. He glanced at his cha’s detector and confird he hadn’t been mistaken—the enemy really was over 200 ters away.
To kill four of his n instantly from over 200 ters away... He truly couldn’t imagine how the man had done it.
In his Fierce Tiger rcenary Corps, the best marksman could only take down a Zombie from 50 ters away at most.
That was why, when he issued the order earlier, he hadn’t even considered the possibility of a counterattack.
After the shock wore off, a burning rage gradually consud him. No matter how good the enemy’s Gun Technique was, he was still just flesh and blood. How dare he challenge their entire rcenary Corps? How dare he kill his n right under his nose?
He resolved then and there to make the man die in despair, to make him understand that the Fierce Tiger rcenary Corps was not to be trifled with.
Of course, though seething with rage, he hadn’t forgotten his duties as a commander.
As he fired up his cha and charged out, he simultaneously gave an order: five n would stay behind to repair the Armored Vehicle, while the rest were to head for the battlefield on foot.
After all, the battlefield was only two kiloters away. With the Speed of the Optimized, it was only a two or three-minute sprint—definitely faster than repairing the vehicle.
With the order given, the cha’s auxiliary engines fired up. The ground thundered as the multi-ton machine, propelled by advanced technology, broke into a terrifyingly fast run.
Even though Zeng Hong could only bring out 50% of the cha’s power, covering 200 ters was a matter of seconds for him.
He could already picture it: his cha stomping the man into a bloody pulp with a single foot.
But once again, things didn’t go as he expected. The mont he piloted the cha out from behind the Armored Vehicle, the enemy attacked.
BANG! BANG!
Two gunshots rang out.
But Zeng Hong never paid any mind to attacks from conventional Firearms. Even Armor-Piercing Bullets posed no threat to a cha.
However, as the two shots rang out, he was shocked to see the system’s self-diagnostic program blare a warning: damage sustained at the knee joint.
Zeng Hong was stunned. Even a direct hit from an Armor-Piercing Bullet should only leave a pea-sized crater on the cha’s hull. Such minor damage should never have triggered a system diagnostic alarm.
He quickly used the cha’s control system to get a visual on the knee joint. A crater had appeared there.
But that wasn’t the main issue. The real problem was the green liquid inside the crater, which was rapidly corroding the surrounding specialized Alloy.
Reviewing the playback footage, he saw that in that split second, two bullets had struck the exact sa spot, one right after the other.
The first was an Armor-Piercing Bullet. As he’d expected, it had only managed to create a pea-sized crater on the cha’s outer armor.
But the second, a Corrosive Bullet, struck that sa crater. Now, the corrosive liquid that should have splashed harmlessly away was instead neatly collected inside it.
Without that crater, most of the liquid from the Corrosive Bullet would have been deflected. Even if a little residue remained, it would have just trickled down the outer armor, causing negligible damage—nothing like what was happening now.
After witnessing this, Zeng Hong finally shed his contempt. ’With this level of Gun Technique,’ he thought, ’if I can’t take him out as quickly as possible, sothing might actually go wrong.’
At the sa ti, he guessed the attacker’s identity. Such skill with Firearms could only belong to one person: the Divine Sharpshooter from the Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps.
But figuring this out didn’t fluster Zeng Hong in the slightest. In fact, he felt a thrill of excitent. Killing a key figure like this would be a major accomplishnt.
Though his mind was racing, his hands didn’t stop. He had the cha raise its right arm and unleash a powerful blast of air at the crater, blowing all the corrosive liquid out.
Otherwise, even while running, the motion would fling most of the liquid out, but so residue would inevitably remain in the crater, continuously damaging the cha.
Zeng Hong was a skilled cha pilot, and the entire sequence of movents was fluid. But no sooner had he finished than another Corrosive Bullet landed precisely inside the crater.
Zeng Hong: "..."
A torrent of curses flooded his mind, but reason told him that getting angry was pointless. He glanced at the diagnostic system. The outer armor on the knee was already at 13% damage.
He also knew that he couldn’t safely deal with the corrosive liquid until he eliminated Lin Xinghai.
So, casting aside all caution, he piloted the cha in a direct charge toward Lin Xinghai, intent on eliminating his target as quickly as possible.
But in the next mont, his eyes went wide as if he’d seen a ghost.
When Lin Xinghai unleashed his full Speed, he was so fast that even the cha couldn’t quite keep up. Watching the figure ahead, a blur that almost left afterimages, Zeng Hong felt a sense of despair.
If he had known the Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps had a Divine Sharpshooter with such incredible Speed, no amount of benefits from the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps would have convinced him to get involved in this ss.
Even if they managed to join forces and wipe out the Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps, if this man in front of him escaped, he would beco their living nightmare in the days to co.
Of course, he didn’t have to wait. It was already a nightmare for him right now, because Lin Xinghai was attacking even as he ran.
The man was dual-wielding pistols. One fired a relentless stream of Corrosive Bullets, steadily damaging his cha. The other fired Armor-Piercing Bullets, targeting the rcenaries he had sent to the battlefield.
PFFT! PFFT! PFFT! PFFT! PFFT!
He could only watch helplessly as his n fell one after another. It wasn’t until five were dead that the other rcenaries managed to scramble for cover behind nearby buildings, not daring to show their heads again.
And although Zeng Hong was chasing him, Lin Xinghai showed no intention of leaving. He was actually leading him around in circles.
Under these circumstances, his n didn’t dare make a move.
Lin Xinghai, all by himself, had pinned down an entire rcenary Corps.
What was even more terrifying was what would happen if the Corrosive Bullets ate through the outer armor. The cha’s mobility would be compromised, and who knew what would happen then.
Finally grasping the situation, Zeng Hong knew he couldn’t let this drag on. Wincing, he activated the launch system for the Micro Missiles.
These cha-mounted Micro Missiles could be purchased from the rcenary Guild, but they cost a steep 1,000 Points apiece. Even with funding from the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps, he had only brought himself to buy ten.
