Fifteen minutes later, Lin Xinghai stood atop a factory building in the Industrial Park, watching the teeming crowd of people and Combat Robots below as they busily loaded all sorts of supplies onto Armored Vehicles.

From his vantage point, it looked just like ants moving their nest.

In fact, they were doing the very sa thing.

Except they weren’t moving their own ho—they were hauling soone else’s "ho" back with them.

Armored Vehicles, packed with supplies and equipnt, drove one after another down the safely cleared corridor, heading out of Guanghan City. The convoy was so long you could barely see where it ended.

They would first transport these supplies to the Military Departnt’s main base outside Guanghan City.

Once the supplies reached the base, they were essentially halfway to being secure.

"Colonel Zhang Yue, about how long will it take to clear this place out?" Lin Xinghai asked Zhang Yue, who was standing beside him.

He had just received a new mission: to assemble so of the Third Level rcenary Corps and the Military Departnt’s rapid response force into a temporary ergency team. Their job was to be on standby to handle any sudden developnts.

And by "sudden developnts," that primarily ant Zombies.

There were simply too many Zombies in Guanghan City. Less than two hours had passed since the main horde’s rout, and in that ti, they had managed to completely clear out the Zombies inside the Industrial Park.

However, the number of Zombies in the vicinity, which had thinned out, was gradually increasing again. While their numbers were nowhere near what they were at the start, they were slowly becoming a threat to the hauling operation.

Obviously, the longer the operation took, the more dangerous it would beco. That was why Lin Xinghai needed a clear tiline.

"We just finished a detailed inventory. The amount of supplies here in the Industrial Park is about twenty percent more than we initially estimated. Of course, even with the extra tal resources, it won’t take long to move them with so many robots helping out."

"The main issue is the handful of critical production lines. If we want to move them intact, we can’t just use brute-force disassembly. That kind of technical work is what takes the most ti. So, the whole operation will likely last until tomorrow morning," Zhang Yue said.

"So we’re gambling, then," Lin Xinghai sighed.

"Yes, that’s about the size of it. We can only hope those Mutated Zombies are too scared to return for a while," Zhang Yue said with a note of resignation.

Lin Xinghai replied, "But I’d rather not leave it to chance."

Zhang Yue hesitated. "Uh... what do you an, sir?"

Lin Xinghai said, "The small fission missiles have a maximum range of 10 kiloters, right?"

Zhang Yue confird, "Yes, that’s correct."

Lin Xinghai continued, "Then have the artillery squad get ready. If those Mutated Zombies co back for us, I’ll charge them again. Even if we’re forced to retreat, we’re going to take a piece out of them."

"Understood!" Zhang Yue replied.

Their exchange was brief, but the nearby soldiers who overheard it felt a jolt of morale. Though humanity seed insignificant before a Zombie tide millions strong, with Lin Xinghai around, at least they wouldn’t be lambs to the slaughter.

Just as Lin Xinghai had said, even if they were forced to retreat, they would take a piece out of the enemy.

Ti ticked by. Everyone was racing against the clock, carrying out their hauling duties. They all knew that every additional truckload of resources brought back would make the Shelter that much more complete.

For those living in the apocalypse, the Shelter was their ho, and everyone wanted their ho to be built a little better.

Many rcenary Corps even temporarily contributed their own Armored Vehicles for hauling cargo.

Several hours passed quickly.

At 3:00 a.m., Zhang Yue received a ssage, and the tension visibly drained from him.

"What is it?" Lin Xinghai asked, curious.

"According to the latest report, we’ve now shipped out enough resources for Star Shield Shelter to complete the first phase of its expansion."

"What’s more, we’ve already moved three of the five most important production lines. In other words, we’ve already achieved our primary objective."

"Even if the Zombie tide were to attack now, we could retreat without any major regrets. Of course," Zhang Yue said, a rare smile finally appearing on his face, "every truckload of resources we haul away from here on out is a bonus."

Everyone, including Lin Xinghai, felt a weight lift from their shoulders upon hearing the news.

...

This ti, Lady Luck truly seed to be on their side. By the ti the last truckload of resources was driven out of the Industrial Park the next morning, the Mutated Zombies still hadn’t appeared.

The greatest danger they faced all night was an attack from a horde of nearly 300 Zombies.

But a threat of that level didn’t even warrant Lin Xinghai’s attention. In fact, after 4:00 a.m., he had simply returned to his temporary tent to rest.

"Lin Xinghai, General Lin has invited you to et with him. He wants to discuss our future developnt plans," Zhang Yue said, having found Lin Xinghai just after he had woken up at dawn.

A look of surprise appeared on Lin Xinghai’s face.

He would have understood if Lin Zhengyang had summoned him to celebrate or to present him with a reward, but discussing developnt plans out of the blue struck him as odd.

’Isn’t this the sort of thing that should be decided in a eting with high-level officials like Wei Tianxing back at Star Shield Shelter?’

But despite his surprise and confusion, he imdiately followed Zhang Yue to the temporary command post.

When he saw Lin Zhengyang again, Lin Xinghai was surprised to see the general looking visibly exhausted.

Lin Zhengyang might be over sixty, but he was a Body Shaping Realm expert.

Normally, soone at his Level could go for days without food or drink and suffer no ill effects.

For him to appear this tired, there could only be one reason: he had truly poured every ounce of his energy into this war.

"Elder Lin, you wanted to see ?" Lin Xinghai asked, his tone full of the high regard he held for the general.

"Xiaohai! Co, sit. Have so of this Tieguanyin. We can’t grow it anymore, so every cup is precious," Lin Zhengyang said warmly, personally pouring a cup for Lin Xinghai.

"Elder Lin, please, sit. I can get it myself," Lin Xinghai said hastily.

"No, no. You’ve earned this. Let this tea serve as wine. On behalf of the entire Star Shield Shelter, I thank you for your contributions. Without you, we never could have achieved victory against this Zombie tide."

"Furthermore, your team tied down nearly all the Mutated Zombies, which allowed us to secure this victory at such a low cost," Lin Zhengyang said, raising his teacup.

Lin Xinghai quickly raised his own cup in response. At the sa ti, a question ca to mind. "Elder Lin, how many Zombies did we eliminate in total? And what were our casualties?"
