Now that the assessnt was over, Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but let out a long sigh of relief.
The difficulty of this fifth stage was simply too much, even for him.
He had really given it his all with just a single Tearing Rifle.
But even so, he didn’t manage to get first place. Honestly, Lin Xinghai was a little impressed by the person who did.
In fact, he had a bit of admiration for all Divine Sharpshooters. After all, those people didn’t have a system; their Gun Technique was honed through sheer practice.
As for the stage’s design, Lin Xinghai had only one word for it: insane!
The speed of the iron balls increased the further he progressed through the fifth stage. According to Lin Xinghai’s estimate, by the end, the ti he had to shoot would shrink to just 0.2 seconds.
’If that’s really the case, I wouldn’t be able to pass this fifth stage even with a gun in each hand! Not unless I upgraded my shooting technique to the Interdiate level.’
Lin Xinghai shook his head, pushing the thoughts aside. When he put down his rifle, Ling Xiu and the others imdiately ca over.
However, they were all a bit cautious, and for a mont, none of them knew quite what to say.
Because looking at the results alone, second place on the shooting leaderboard was definitely an achievent to be happy about.
But the gap between him and first place was only 9% of the stage’s progress, which wasn’t a large margin at all. With a little more luck, he might have been able to take the top spot.
From that perspective, even second place felt like a pity.
So, they couldn’t figure out what Lin Xinghai was feeling right now. They didn’t dare speak rashly, afraid of saying the wrong thing.
Of course, staying silent wasn’t an option either. In the end, Ling Xiu spoke up cautiously, "Brother Lin, do you want to attempt the challenge again? Now that you’ve had a go, I’m sure you could take first place."
"Uh... no, that’s fine. I can live with second place. There’s no need to waste any more ti," Lin Xinghai said.
Ling Xiu: "..."
’Is he even human? What does he an, "live with"? That’s *second place*! For anyone else, that would be an incredible achievent, you know?’
Of course, Ling Xiu had no choice but to go along with him and even had to agree. "You’re right. With your skill, you could co back and take first place whenever you feel like it."
The others also chid in with their own flattery.
After the round of flattery died down, Zhuang Qiao spoke up. "Mr. Lin, since you don’t plan to try again, I’ll go ahead and upload your final ranking. Starting next week, 900 Points will be credited to your card every week."
Lin Xinghai nodded. These Points were a kind of perk for Divine Sharpshooters: 1,000 Points for first place, 900 for second, 800 for third, and so on.
Next, the group followed Zhuang Qiao back, as Lin Xinghai still needed to take care of so registration details.
On the way back, Ling Xiu, who was walking beside him, opened his mouth several tis, only to close it again, looking like he was hesitating to speak.
"If you have sothing to say, just say it." Lin Xinghai was starting to feel awkward just watching him.
Hearing Lin Xinghai’s prompt, Ling Xiu took a deep breath and said directly, "Um... actually, the few of us want to form our own rcenary Corps, but we’re missing a powerful leader. I was wondering if you might be interested?"
Lin Xinghai was stunned for a mont, then felt both amused and exasperated. "Sorry, I’m already in a rcenary Corps."
Now it was Ling Xiu’s turn to look astonished. ’If you’re already in a rcenary Corps, then why did you co looking for a Hunter squad? Are you just ssing with us?!’ he wanted to demand.
But he only dared to say that in his head. On his face, he still had to force a smile, though it looked a little unnatural.
Lin Xinghai could guess what he was thinking, so he offered an explanation. "The rcenary Corps I’m in has already t the promotion requirents and is applying to beco a Second Level rcenary Corps. We won’t be going on missions for a few days, so I ca out on my own."
Ling Xiu was relieved to hear the explanation. Even though he couldn’t recruit him, he still felt that going on a mission together and building so goodwill would be a good thing.
Soon, they followed Zhuang Qiao back to her workstation. Lin Xinghai took out his Identity Card, and after a quick registration, the process was complete.
Imdiately after, the group went to the first-floor hall of the rcenary Guild.
The rcenary Guild had a very thorough system. Even for soone like Lin Xinghai temporarily joining a Hunter squad, registration was required.
If sothing went wrong with the mission, the rcenary Guild could also conduct a thorough investigation. This was considered a form of protection for both parties.
Arriving in the first-floor hall, Ling Xiu watched Lin Xinghai complete the registration and beco a temporary mber of their Superpower User squad, and he breathed an inward sigh of relief.
He had been afraid this powerhouse would suddenly change his mind and back out.
"Brother Lin, so should we go pick up a mission now?" Ling Xiu asked.
Although he was the nominal leader of this Hunter squad, strength reigned supre in the apocalypse. He had no choice but to give Lin Xinghai’s opinion the utmost respect.
Hearing the words "pick up a mission," Lin Xinghai’s brow furrowed slightly. He stated bluntly, "I’m not interested in doing missions, to be honest. I just want to go out and hunt Zombies. The main reason I’m joining a Hunter squad is that you have a multi-purpose off-road vehicle. It’ll let us escape in ti if we run into a Mutated Zombie or sothing similar."
Ling Xiu was slightly stunned. He hadn’t expected Lin Xinghai to be so direct.
Still, he preferred the directness. It saved him the trouble of guessing.
"Wanting to hunt Zombies doesn’t conflict with taking on a mission," Ling Xiu said. "We can just accept a Zombie extermination mission."
Lin Xinghai really didn’t know much about missions; after all, he had only just beco a rcenary himself.
But upon hearing it was a Zombie extermination mission, he certainly had no objections. Earning so Points while hunting Zombies? Why wouldn’t he?
"An extermination mission is fine, then, but don’t pick one that requires us to go into a city. I have no interest in encountering Mutated Zombies."
Ling Xiu nodded repeatedly, then went to a self-service computer on the side and began to search for a suitable mission.
He actually already had a mission in mind, so he knew exactly what to look for. He found it in monts.
"Brother Lin, this mission is to exterminate Zombies in Qingtang Town. It’s a small town about 50 kiloters from our Shelter. We’ve been to Qingtang Town on missions several tis and have never encountered any Mutated Zombies, nor have we heard any reports of them there. What do you think?" Ling Xiu asked.
Lin Xinghai took a couple of steps forward to look at the screen. He saw it was a long-term mission that 67 Hunter squads and 5 rcenary Corps had previously accepted.
’This kind of extermination mission probably required all Zombies in the target area to be eliminated before it could be considered complete.’
As for the mission rewards, they were listed clearly on the screen.
Killing an Ordinary Zombie: 1 Point. An Interdiate Zombie: 2 Points. A High Level Zombie: 4 Points.
Additionally, full video recording was required for the duration of the mission to verify the number of Zombies killed.
"Alright, let’s take this one."
