Ling Xiu was left speechless by Lin Xinghai’s forceful words.
But the matter was simply too dangerous. Even after what Lin Xinghai had said, he was still reluctant to go.
However, Ling Xiu also understood that once Lin Xinghai made a decision, he would be powerless to stop him. So his mind raced, trying to co up with a logical reason to change his mind.
"Brother Lin, I know this is a paid rescue, but I feel like the reward doesn’t justify the risk we’d be taking."
"This kind of transaction has to be settled on the spot. Since we’re not inside the Shelter, we can’t connect to the network to transfer Points or anything like that. Paynt will have to be in physical goods. The total value of the items we’d get would be 10,000 Points at most."
"But to do this, we not only have to deal with a Mutated Zombie, but we also have to watch out for the zombie horde. If we’re not careful and get caught up in it, we’ll be in grave danger," Ling Xiu urged.
The others nodded in agreent. Of course, the main reason was their deep-seated fear of Mutated Zombies.
"Of course we wouldn’t be doing it for just 10,000 Points. The Hunter’s corpse alone is worth 10,000 Points."
"Besides, have you ever considered why this Hunter, despite being heavily injured, is still relentlessly pursuing that rcenary Corps?" Lin Xinghai asked.
His question truly stunned Ling Xiu and the others.
Mutated Zombies possess a certain level of intelligence. They value their own lives more than Ordinary Zombies do, so after being seriously injured, they would normally flee.
This situation, then, seed rather abnormal.
Seeing that no one spoke, Lin Xinghai continued, "The only reason this would happen is if there’s sothing very important attracting the Hunter—an attraction that far surpasses that of ’food’."
"What could that be?" Ling Xiu asked instinctively.
"If I’m not mistaken, it’s Energy Crystal Stones. And there should be quite a few of them," Lin Xinghai offered his deduction.
The energy fluctuations emanating from Energy Crystal Stones can promote the evolution of Zombies, so naturally, they would hold a fatal attraction for a Mutated Zombie.
Moreover, he had just recently experienced a similar situation where his team was nearly wiped out while being pursued by a Blood Demon, so he made the connection almost imdiately.
Furthermore, according to Lin Xinghai’s knowledge, the Shelter’s upper echelons had been buying up Energy Crystal Stones at high prices recently. The major rcenary Corps would naturally keep an eye out for them while on expeditions, and so even went out of their way to search for them. Encountering a team that had so wasn’t too surprising.
Of course, even if he was wrong and it wasn’t Energy Crystal Stones, there had to be sothing else valuable attracting the Hunter. They could just take that as paynt for the Points instead.
Upon hearing the three words "Energy Crystal Stones," Ling Xiu and the others finally started to waver.
An opportunity like this was rare; if they missed it, they might not get another. Even if they did, it would be pointless without Lin Xinghai.
’Fortune favors the bold,’ and from the sound of Lin Xinghai’s tone, he was completely confident. So why not take the risk?
Maybe they could earn enough Points to reach their goal all in one go.
At this thought, Ling Xiu exchanged a look with the others, and they all gave their silent consent.
Seeing no objections, Lin Xinghai imdiately told Huang Nuo to drive toward them.
The 5-kiloter distance now separating them from the zombie horde had beco the biggest obstacle to the rescue.
More importantly, the other party’s position wasn’t static, which made chasing them down for a rescue even more troubleso.
"Brother Lin, let switch places with you. I have an idea that might let them know we’re here and get them to et us halfway," Ling Xiu said. Now that the decision was made, he was ready to give it his all.
Hearing this, Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. He was a little curious as to how Ling Xiu planned to let the other party know they were there.
But he didn’t ask. Instead, he nodded, and the two n swapped places.
Whether it was moving from the passenger seat to the roof, or from the roof to the passenger seat, it was a simple matter for the Optimized—as easy as flipping over.
They even managed to switch positions while the vehicle was speeding along.
As they swapped, Lin Xinghai noticed that the other man wasn’t holding a Tearing Rifle, but a sniper rifle.
A look of sudden realization dawned on his face.
Then, just as he’d guessed, Ling Xiu raised the sniper rifle, aid, and fired.
From what Lin Xinghai knew, sniper rifles of this era generally had an effective range of 3 kiloters, while their maximum range could reach up to 5 kiloters.
This also happened to be the maximum range of Ling Xiu’s Thousand-Mile Eye Superpower. It was precisely for this reason that he was particularly fond of using sniper rifles, as they allowed him to utilize his Superpower to its fullest potential.
Of course, few people would use a sniper rifle to shoot at a target so far away, not even Ling Xiu, because accuracy simply couldn’t be guaranteed.
However, when the target was a zombie horde, that was a different story.
Aided by his Thousand-Mile Eye Superpower, Ling Xiu picked out a group of Zombies near the rcenary Corps and pulled the trigger.
With such a large swarm of Zombies, as long as the shot wasn’t too far off, so unlucky one was bound to get hit.
BANG!
The deep report of the sniper rifle echoed as a bullet left the chamber, flying toward the horde 5 kiloters away.
Then, within the massive horde, an unlucky Zombie was suddenly struck in the chest by sothing terrifying, and a bloody, bowl-sized hole instantly appeared.
The sheer force of the impact sent it flying backward, knocking down several other Zombies before it ca to a stop.
The power of a sniper bullet, even when fired at a target 5 kiloters away, was incomparable to that of an ordinary rifle round.
Less than two seconds after the first Zombie had a hole punched through its chest, another one nearby was hit in the right arm, which was instantly severed.
Soon after, another Zombie’s head exploded.
If this had happened only once or twice, it might have been easily overlooked. But as it occurred again and again, as long as the rcenaries weren’t all blind, soone was bound to notice sothing was amiss.
"Commander, there’s another rcenary Corps nearby! Bullets are coming from the left! They must be using a sniper rifle," one of the rcenaries who first noticed the situation shouted excitedly over the comms channel.
Inside the damaged cha, Ren Hong, who had been cautiously guarding against a sneak attack from the Hunter, was montarily stunned by the voice on the comms channel. An ecstatic expression then spread across his face.
Although they had fired a distress flare, everyone knew that the chances of a rcenary Corps being willing to co to their rescue in a situation like this were extrely low.
Firing that flare had been nothing more than a desperate, last-ditch effort.
But who would have thought that a rcenary Corps would actually respond?
"Turn left! We’re going to rendezvous with them!" Ren Hong imdiately issued the order.
At the sa ti, he prayed internally, ’I hope the ones coming to help are a Second Level or Third Level rcenary Corps. A First Level rcenary Corps might not be enough to get us through this crisis.’
