Raphy Beryll is not the head of the Beryl Family.
At least, not now.
The Beryl Earldom does not only consist of Mit, this border city, as there are quite a few cities within this territory.
The mayors of these cities are either direct or collateral mbers of the Beryll Family, or they are vassals of the Beryll Family, much like Iron City Karudi of the ipros domain, where the managers are vassals of the ipros family, the Hadi lineage.
These people are granted the managent power of a city within the territory by the lord, which can be regarded as the landowner of that city.
Raphy Beryll beca the mayor of Mit in this manner, responsible for managing the border city of Mit.
Her elder brother is the current head of the Beryll Family, and though she is middle-aged, she has not left the family. Her husband is a man who married into the Beryll Family, so she remains a high-ranking mber of the direct line of Beryll, dispatched to manage this border city of Mit.
It is a very important task, for the Luke Kingdom has beco very restless in recent years and might even start a war against the Tistis Kingdom with the support of the small nations’ alliance.
As the border city closest to the territory of the Luke Kingdom, Mit must shoulder the heavy responsibility of defending against the Luke Kingdom and protecting the territory of the Tistis Kingdom, both from a geographical and strategic point of view.
Raphy Beryll took on this heavy responsibility.
Perhaps she is not the most powerful person in the family, rely a second-rate magician, but in terms of managent skills alone, she is undoubtedly the most capable in the family, even surpassing her brother, who is the head.
Unfortunately, the Luke Kingdom eventually invaded the territory of the Tistis Kingdom with considerable montum and full preparation, and the garrisoned troops in Mit could not withstand the sudden attack.
In this situation, Raphy Beryll was already ntally prepared to perish with Mit.
Anyway, she had already sent away those who needed to be sent off; afterwards, it would be up to fate.
With these feelings, Raphy sat in the mayor’s mansion, waiting for the enemy troops to invavade and bravely et her death.
Who would have thought that at the critical mont, there was a sudden turn of events.
Upon receiving Shu’en’s report, Raphy hurried to the drawing room to welco the heroes who had saved Mit at the first opportunity.
"Thank you all once again for saving Mit and saving us."
Raphy humbled herself, bowing repeatedly.
This was already beyond the attitude you have when facing heroes; it was the attitude one had when facing superiors.
There was no help for it; she had already heard that the leading youth before her was a tactical-level magician, accompanied by a Sword Saint’s Attendant. Those who followed him were either wealthy or noble, possessing exceptional character or extraordinary beauty.
Such a group of people had clearly extraordinary backgrounds, not sothing an earl’s family like hers could resist.
So Raphy didn’t put on any airs, thanking them sincerely.
Her approach was successful, leaving a good first impression on Reiger and the others at the very least.
"It was just a gesture of convenience; there’s no need for formality, Mayor."
Reiger shook his head, dismissing the matter.
However, Raphy clearly wouldn’t naively let it just end at that.
"I have already reported the events of Mit to my family, and my family has also inford the Urvashi Palace. I believe the royal family will not overlook your aid." Raphy said solemnly, "Our country will surely reward you generously, and we ask that you stay here for a few days so we can entertain you."
"No, there’s no need for hospitality, nor do we require any reward." Reiger continued shaking his head but then changed the topic, saying, "But we do indeed wish to et with the people of the royal family, if there is a chance. Could you introduce us?"
Upon hearing this, Raphy’s heart skipped a beat as she beca slightly wary.
"May I ask why you wish to see the mbers of the royal family?"
Raphy tentatively inquired.
There was no helping it.
The current situation of the Tistis Kingdom was not good, and the royal family had been split into the Prince’s faction and the Princess’s faction, engaging in continuous internal warfare, exhausting the Kingdom to its current predicant.
Reiger’s request to et the royal family under these conditions naturally made Raphy wary and sensitive.
Although she knew it was not good to be like this—the other party had just saved her and the border city—but who could bla the Tistis Kingdom for not being able to withstand any more turmoil?
Reiger and his group’s origins were too mysterious for Raphy to dismiss any precaution.
"Rest assured, I am not too interested in this country itself."
Reiger did not mind Raphy’s probing, and his words beca more direct rather than euphemistic.
"You needn’t worry that we want to exploit the chaos to do sothing to the royal family or this country. I rely wish to et the mbers of the Tistis family to ask them so questions."
To ask questions?
What questions?
Raphy wanted to ask this, but she held her tongue.
Probing was one thing, but Raphy knew well what questions should be asked and which should not.
The current issue obviously touched upon the privacy of the other party, and continuing further would be impolite.
So Raphy suppressed her curiosity, smiled at Reiger, and said, "Of course, I am not suspecting you, but as you are aware, the situation in the Tistis Kingdom is quite unstable. While our Beryl Family is just a border earl’s family, we are still part of the great nobility, making us inevitably sensitive."
