When you’re fast, even if your attacks are weaker, you can make it difficult for your opponent to counter your moves, especially against a power type like Gawain. Using speed to cope with it certainly could have a surprising effect, making the fight much easier.
If Reiger had used the strong assault mode against Gawain, he would have had to collide head-on with him.
If Gawain had been in a normal state, that wouldn’t be a problem.
