A majority of the basics were going over the importance of visualization and understanding what Fire Magic would entail, like how the intent behind your spells and what you wanted it to do could drastically alter how impactful said spells were.
Again, it was the basics, but it was the interdiary sections that began to expand on those ideas that captured my attention, specifically with how structuring your spells could take them to the next level.
What I was doing with the Fireball was simple structuring - according to the Inferno Compendium - since I was creating the sphere and then adding on so extra steps to make it more powerful.
The stance I took with it and the way I spun it between my hands before throwing it forwards was a ’structure’ I had taken with the spell, and this was sothing I had experienced beforehand; structuring sothing just made it better and more cohesive in general when compared to ’raw’ spell casting.
All that extra oomph that I had managed to squeeze out of the identical amalgamation of mana simply by adding so quick and simple steps told all I needed to know about this section on structuring, but it was the ideas that really kept around.
There were a few different spells in here that were interesting to , like Fla Lance or Fla Whip - original nas, but why bother naming sothing that was a ’basic’ spell? - and how I could not only cast them but what sort of structure I could give them that would make them all the better.
You didn’t need to throw the Fla Lance since it could act as a close combat weapon for a little bit, but there were a few different warnings about doing so since this wasn’t a solid construct; trying to block attacks with it would fail spectacularly, and expecting it to actually pierce thick armor was a fools hope.
Even if you focused the mana in the tip primarily and made it as solid as you possibly could it would still be a ’weak’ option as a lee weapon, but if you needed it you could use it; the main function of the spell though was to make a larger Fireball that was more precise and streamlined comparatively.
The compendium iterated and reiterated constantly that clear visualization of what sort of magic you wanted to cast was what gave your spells power, so the simpler they were the stronger they could beco.
On the contrary though making things too simple opened up far too many counters for the mages you would be going against, and even the physically oriented warriors could think up a few ways to deal with the spells being flung at them.
This part of the compendium was interesting to though since it suggested various work arounds to those sorts of scenarios that a magic oriented fighter would inevitably run into during their ti in an arena, on a battlefield or in a Dungeon.
Incorporating multiple styles or variations of that one spell could open up so many different possibilities that your opponent would need to account for, making it far easier for you to more effectively utilize your magic in truly hectic combat scenarios.
It went on to describe a few of them, like the entire idea of using the Fla Lance as a lee weapon or how the Fla Whip had more viability as a support weapon then your primary attack, giving a few more ideas that I was going to need to mull over soon.
What I was really interested in though were the various techniques and the like that were noted down in great detail, each going over the different sort of thod you could use to cast or how much importance your ntality had over your magic.
Both of the primary ’schools’ of magical thought - Order and Chaos - agreed on one very important foundational thing in the overarching sche of all things magical; your ntal state greatly impacted what your magic would end up becoming.
Confidence in yourself and in your spell was of paramount importance when casting anything at all, be it so utility based magic that just created a cozy campfire or lit a candle all the way to sothing as extrely powerful as drawing out any extra Fire Mana in the area around you to collect into a single spot before exploding with extre force.
That confidence was key to pretty much everything, and adding onto that was the assurance that what you were doing was the right thing; there was an account that described in great detail how the author had suffered an embarrassing defeat after they grew uncertain about the duel they were in.
What if they hurt the other person too much, or what if the spell ended up exploding and dealing damage to the people observing them?
That lack of conviction in their spell allowed their opponent to overpower them and defeat them handedly, resulting in a rather embarrassing defeat that they had wanted to bury for so long, but instead decided to learn and grow from it.
So in turn I was able to learn many things from this compendium, coming from the mistakes and embarrassnts of the authors as well as their triumphs as they described what did or didn’t work in great detail.
Ti ticked by without a care for , and by the ti I was drawn from my deep enjoynt of what I was reading - sotis reading to learn could be far more entrancing than any fantastical adventure - it was only because soone had co over to tap on the shoulder to remind that it was lunchti.
Hours had passed by, and yet I couldn’t even fathom considering them wasted since I had learned much during their passing, though funnily enough all that information was useless and promptly fled my mind when I saw who was tapping my shoulder.
"Dear, as much as I love having people reading quietly - and so seriously - in my library, I don’t want you to starve yourself doing so. It’s already noon! Go, eat, and maybe co back on a full stomach; or go and practice~! I’m sure you learned a lot; I can just tell from the few tis I saw you~!"
The older librarian was giving that sa old warm smile as always, but the earlier embarrassnt just made staring up at her all the more awkward... especially now that I was able to see all of her since she wasn’t sitting behind that desk.
My eyes only flicked over her in her entirety but that was more than enough to see that the older woman in front of was incredibly alluring just because of her body and nothing more; her wide hips were hugged by a simple pencil skirt while her chest was emphasized by the white blouse she wore.
One of the buttons in the middle seed to be struggling to keep everything together as she leaned down to speak to , so it was a little hard to not give said button a large amount of attention... and even when I managed to look at her face I was just struck again by how utterly gorgeous she must have been in her youth.
Because even though she aged like an incredibly fine wine, that just ant that she had to have been drop dead gorgeous when she was young; plus, there was always the benefits and detrints of being either younger or older, though for her there seed to be only benefits.
The ’worst’ part about all of this was how her smile only curled more when she noticed my hesitation, her warm amber eyes glowing with mirth as she stared at , and even though she said nothing... just the fact that she noticed had blushing and feeling guilty.
"Oh... um, well, thank you..! I should um... I’ll be heading to lunch then..!"
Standing up quickly and almost knocking into her, I blushed so more at my clumsiness and almost turned completely red when she caught , holding just an inch away and looking at with that kind smile.
"No need to rush, dear, lunch isn’t going anywhere... and I promise not to bite, hm~? You don’t need to be so... squirmy..."
The way she drew that last word out short circuited my brain, and it was a crystal clear reminder that she knew exactly what sort of effect she had on because... well, if she was this gorgeous now, she must have been a real heartthrob back in the day, and she knew that too.
Experience gained and never lost, it would seem, and that experience was used ’against’ as she gave my cheek a soft pat before shooing away, smiling to herself as she watched scurry out of the library like so shy mouse.
In just three days I had beco a simp to so Noblewoman who was rooming with , a bitch to one of the city’s top powerhouses, ’friend’ with a future Draconian legend and now an embarrassed, anxious mouse in front of a devastatingly beautiful and kind librarian...
What a nice start to my new life, right..?
