Chen Shu thought for a mont and decided to go with the first option. All-Elental Resistance was way more tempting.
"What's your level?" Chen Shu narrowed his eyes, probing.
Zhu Dabai sneered. "Not that high—Level 8 Beast Tar!"
Definitely not soone to ss with. Chen Shu thought to himself.
Since the guy was here to take Spirit Chef University's independent exam, he had to be around their age. Xu Xiaoyu, the top student at Nanjiang Second High, was only a Level 7 Beast Tar, yet this guy was already Level 8.
The gap between Nanjiang City and the Capital really was massive.
"Fine! I'll fight you!"
Chen Shu thought it over. This was actually a good chance to test the sli's strength.
Although Zhu Dabai was a Level 8 Beast Tar, his contract spirit's potential rating definitely wasn't high—otherwise, why would he be applying to Spirit Chef University?
Most likely, he'd been pumped up to Level 8 through sheer resource stacking.
"You checked his background, right?"
Zhu Dabai's eyes held a trace of caution as he asked his bodyguard again.
He couldn't help it—even though the Zhu family's influence was enormous, this was the Capital. You might run into a big shot just buying a youtiao.[1]
The bodyguard nodded. "Checked. He's from so small city down south."
They were all thinking: Bla yourselves for walking right into the young master's crosshairs.
Chen Shu lowered his voice. "Dali, if I lose, watch my signal and just run! Don't look back!"
He was only a Level 6 Beast Tar. Fighting soone two levels above him, the odds weren't great.
Everything depended on how strong the opponent's contract spirit was.
The group headed to Spirit Chef University's Beast Taming Arena.
Zhu Dabai summoned his contract spirit—and it turned out to be a huge white pig with wings!
"Uh..."
Chen Shu and Zhang Dali imdiately snickered.
Holy crap, this thing was even more codic than his own sli!
The Flying Pig flapped its wings, huffing and puffing as it struggled up to about five ters in the air.
"I never would have expected you to possess such a rare flying contract spirit! This humble one[2]—pfft..."
Chen Shu cupped his fists in a formal gesture as he spoke, but couldn't finish his sentence before bursting into laughter.
The rage in Zhu Dabai's eyes intensified. "You'll regret that soon enough!"
"I'm already regretting it right now—hold on a sec!"
Chen Shu clutched his stomach, feeling like he was about to laugh himself into a cramp.
Despite having mastered all his high school knowledge, he had no mory of this Flying Pig. Could it be so newly mutated contract spirit?
Ten minutes later, Chen Shu finally steadied himself and summoned the Golden Sli.
Zhu Dabai sneered. "Your contract spirit isn't much better, is it?"
Although the Flying Pig only had an E-rank potential rating, the Golden Sli was F-rank. That made him feel a bit more balanced.
Both contract spirits were now on the field, but there was no bloody battle like one might expect. Instead, they just stared at each other.
From the very start, they'd fallen into a stalemate—like two decorative pets facing off.
Chen Shu extended his right hand and curled his index finger in a beckoning gesture. "Co at !"
"Hmph! I'll show you the power of the Flying Pig."
Zhu Dabai snorted coldly and imdiately ordered his contract spirit to use a skill.
The Flying Pig's mouth suddenly puffed up round, and in an instant, an invisible air bullet shot out.
WHAM!
The sli's body tumbled backward several ters. Its big eyes glared with fury.
But unfortunately, it couldn't fly—all it could do was glare helplessly.
WHAM! WHAM!
The Flying Pig's air bullets weren't very powerful, but they had an extrely short cooldown, continuously bombarding the sli.
"Looks like you're going to lose."
A smile appeared at the corner of Zhu Dabai's mouth. The sli had powerful defense, but at this rate, defeat was inevitable.
Chen Shu frowned slightly. Despite the opponent's arrogant appearance, he'd never let his guard down.
The Flying Pig consistently maintained a safe distance from the sli.
"No choice—gotta try sothing."
In that instant, the Golden Sli's big eyes widened, its expression looking almost constipated. But the next mont, it launched itself upward.
"I've been expecting that."
Zhu Dabai smirked. Even if the sli was only F-rank, it couldn't possibly have zero attack skills.
The Flying Pig flapped its wings—it was about to escape the sli's attack range.
In a flash, the sli's body suddenly expanded to six tis its original size, instantly transforming from a large ball into a gigantic boulder.
A massive shadow descended from above. The Flying Pig let out a panicked squeal, looking utterly terrified.
Who could have predicted its body would suddenly grow this huge?
"Shit, that's dirty!" Zhu Dabai cursed.
If the Flying Pig actually got sat on, his family might be having pork for dinner tonight...
"Use the skill!"
Zhu Dabai commanded the Flying Pig to use its life-saving ability. White light flashed in the pig's eyes.
In an instant, its fat body shrank several tis over, but its wings remained the sa size—the complete opposite of the sli's Gigantification.
Though its body had shrunk, its speed skyrocketed!
The Flying Pig frantically flapped its wings and escaped the sli's attack range in a flash.
Its speed absolutely exceeded that of agility-type contract spirits of the sa level.
BOOM!
The massive sli completely whiffed it, the impact still causing the arena floor to tremble.
The Flying Pig's body quickly returned to normal—clearly, the skill didn't last long.
Under Zhu Dabai's command, the Flying Pig laboriously flapped its wings and flew to a height of ten ters.
Fortunately, the university's Beast Taming Arena was quite impressive, easily accommodating battles between large contract spirits.
WHAM!
Another air cannon fired over.
The sli was too slow—even if the opponent attacked with their eyes closed, they'd still hit.
The situation had returned to square one.
A smile appeared on Zhu Dabai's face. He was already preparing to beat the two of them senseless.
"Chen Pi, what's the plan?"
Zhang Dali shot him a aningful look. He'd already packed up his pots and pans, ready to grab his stuff and bolt at any mont.
"Wait!"
Chen Shu waved his hand, signaling there was no need to panic yet.
Finally, Violent Sitting Kill finished cooling down.
In an instant, under Chen Shu's command, the sli suddenly spun around. Though it moved slowly overall, its turning speed was actually pretty fast.
The sli now had its back to the Flying Pig. Its mouth puffed up, identical to the air cannon—
It was the newly learned skill, Wind's Breath.
WHOOOOSH!
Fierce winds raged, but they had zero effect on the Flying Pig.
"It can't even aim when blowing?"
Zhu Dabai was stunned. He'd assud the skill would be aid at the Flying Pig.
But the next mont, the sli used Charge—also facing backward, rushing in reverse.
Then ca Violent Sitting Kill. The sli's body instantly rocketed upward.
Zhu Dabai's eyes went wide, as if he'd witnessed the most terrifying thing in his life.
A sli the size of ten ters had actually gone airborne!
A flying sli?!
The little Flying Pig trembled in midair, squealing in terror. This would beco the shadow haunting it for the rest of its life.
"Flying freely over your grave!"[3] Chen Shu humd cheerfully.
Even he hadn't expected three completely unrelated skills to actually combine into sothing effective.
[1] Youtiao (油條) is a long, golden-brown deep-fried strip of dough, commonly eaten for breakfast in China. The phrase ans even mundane activities like buying breakfast could lead to encountering powerful people in the Capital.
[2] "This humble one" (在下) is archaic/classical Chinese speech typically used in wuxia novels. Chen Shu is mockingly adopting formal martial arts courtesy before dissolving into laughter at the ridiculous Flying Pig.[3] "Flying freely over your grave" (在你的墳上,自由的飛翔) is a Chinese internet and dark humor song lyric used as the ultimate victory taunt—celebrating over a defeated enemy's grave.
