Now reading: Chapter 161 161: The Alpha Heroine Strikes Back! from JJK: I Was Cast as Gojo Satoru, but My Powers are Real!, a Action novel by Shadownarch.

The episode picked up exactly where the grief had left it.

Lucas Miller's Itadori was on his feet. Not recovered, the word didn't apply yet but upright, driven by the specific resolve of soone who has chosen forward motion as an alternative to collapse. Silas Drake's Mahito was in front of him, and that was enough of a reason.

"What exactly is wrong with you?" Itadori's voice ca out raw, the edges of it stripped down to sothing functional and cold. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU, MAHITO."

"I can hear you just fine without you yelling." Mahito's head tilted with the cheerful attentiveness of soone receiving information they find pleasing. "I can hear your heartbeat just fine."

He released a wall of transfigured flesh - bodies fused and remade into a barrier between them. Itadori hesitated for one fraction of a second. The Leo Vance version of this scene had made that hesitation deliberate - not weakness, but recognition, the specific moral weight of a person who sees victims and has to choose anyway.

He shattered the wall with a reinforced strike.

"Multi-Soul: Body Repel!"

The construct erupted and Mahito crawled from its center, blade swinging, catching Itadori across the cheek with a jagged scratch. Then he did the thing that was designed specifically to cause maximum damage.

His palm transford.

In it, the audience could see a face - warped and fused and wrong, but recognizable. Junpei. Not a mory. A construct made from the sa cursed technique that had killed him, fashioned into a taunt.

Mahito held it up with the expression of soone presenting a piece of evidence.

"Don't get so angry," Mahito said, selecting his left hand to drive a sword through the Junpei-construct while he watched Itadori's face. "It's just the curse talking nonsense."

The live-chat registered this with a single, undivided response:

[I want him to suffer. I have never wanted a fictional character to suffer more specifically and completely than I want this right now.]

[Silas Drake is doing sothing that should require a permit. The way he delivers that line. The SPECIFICITY of the cruelty.]

[Lucas Miller's face. That's not acting. That's Lucas Miller actually processing sothing and Leo Vance filming it.]

Beverly Hills. Maya West's Mansion.

Maya West had been gripping the arm of her chair since the Junpei construct appeared. The knuckles were white.

"Who is playing Mahito?" Della Rose asked, her voice carrying the quality of soone requesting information for purposes they haven't fully defined yet.

"Silas Drake," Maya West said.

"He's too good," Della Rose said. "I've never wanted to reach through a screen and strangle soone this badly in my entire career."

Elena Shaw, watching from a chair in the corner with a glass of water she had stopped drinking approximately twenty minutes ago, simply looked at the screen and said nothing. The situation had moved past comntary.

On the streets above the subway, Silas Drake's Mahito had split himself.

Main body underground. Clone on the surface. The clone moved through the rain-slicked streets of Square with the sa unsettling ease as the original - a second presence deployed as a tactical extension, hunting for anything it could use.

It found Nobara.

Bella Brooks' Nobara Kugisaki was standing in the rain with her hamr and nails, radiating the specific energy of soone who has been waiting for a problem they can actually hit.

"The stitched-face spirit," she said, surveying the clone with a sharp, predatory calm. "That special-grade cursed spirit who's been ssing with our idiot?"

"Aw, shucks. Am I famous now," Mahito said, scratching his head with the performance of soone who finds the entire situation mildly amusing. "Didn't you know?"

"Yeah, for running away with his tail between his legs like a little bitch," Nobara said.

The smile that ca back was the kind that belongs to sothing that has decided you're worth killing.

"Not bad," Mahito said. "Killing you will be worth it."

"I haven't had any good chances to shine today..."

Bella Brooks had been preparing for this scene for three weeks. The hamr work - the specific geotry of Nobara's combat style, nails deployed in advance, Resonance triggered through contact with the soul, required a physical vocabulary she'd developed under Leo's direction until it looked like sothing she'd always known how to do.

The clone found this out.

"Didn't I say that doesn't work on ?" Mahito snapped as Nobara's nails scattered across the asphalt around him.

"Sotis," Bella Brooks said, positioning herself for the jump, "even if you know it, you still have to do it."

She launched herself skyward, the neon lights of Square catching her hamr on the way up in a fra that the colorists had spent two days getting exactly right.

"A gift for you."

She ca down.

"Hairpin!"

The nails detonated simultaneously, brilliant cyan cursed energy erupting from every point of contact, pinning the clone to the ground with a force that left cracks in the asphalt beneath him. Nobara' boot landed on his chest with a weight that the sound designers had engineered to carry through the bass of every speaker currently showing this episode.

She leaned down.

"I've been thinking," she said, voice dropping into sothing quieter and more dangerous than shouting, "ever since I heard about your soul-hopping... I've been wondering if this move would reach the real you."

The hamr ca up.

"RESONANCE!!!"

The impact sent sparks of blue cursed energy and red friction across the rain-slicked street in a display that the cinematographer had described, in the production notes, as "controlled chaos at maximum fidelity." It looked like exactly that.

Underground.

The main body of Silas Drake's Mahito was mid-sentence when the attack arrived from the inside.

The scream he produced was not performance. It was the sound of sothing being reached in a way it had not anticipated being reached, soul-level, bypassing every defense that applied to physical attacks.

Black spikes erupted from his chest. He hit the subway wall and hit it hard.

The global live-chat, which had been sitting with accumulated grief and fury for two solid episodes, found its release valve:

[BELLA BROOKS IS THE GOAT. THE ABSOLUTE GOAT.]

[She didn't just hit the clone. She HIT THE REAL ONE. Through the clone. With a NAIL. I am losing my mind.]

[Mahito's been throwing bodies around this whole arc and the first person to actually scare him is a girl with a hamr and a grudge.]

[Bella Brooks has been in this cast for two seasons and I feel like we're only now seeing what she can actually do. Give her everything.]

[I declare Nobara Kugisaki the most important person in this show. Debate .]

Underground, Mahito knelt in his own ss, vomiting cursed residue, his expression doing sothing it had never done before - genuinely, involuntarily surprised.

"My soul is shivering," he said, to the tunnel. His voice had lost the ease it usually carried. "I can't move freely."

On the surface, Bella Brooks stood over the pinned clone with the focused, unhinged energy of soone who has found the exact right tool for the job and intends to use it completely.

"Strange," she said, looking at her hands. "I can feel my energy detonating sowhere else. And you- " she looked at the clone - "can't even use your soul-touch, can you? You've got nothing."

She adjusted her grip on the hamr. The clone looked up at her. She looked back down at it.

"The real show," Nobara said, with a grin that had more teeth in it than warmth, "is just starting."
