"Hmm?"
The girl stared at the man walking toward her, frowning—then curiosity appeared in her eyes.
"You're… hard to cut, aren't you?"
"Don't look so hostile. I'm not your enemy," Shichen offered first.
"Is that so~" The girl smiled faintly, unreadable.
"Just killing people isn't enough. You should clean up after yourself, or you'll cause trouble for ordinary folks."
As Shichen spoke, he flicked his hand. The earth rolled over, swallowing the corpses and blood, then smoothed itself back to normal.
The girl watched in fascination.
"What kind of magic was that?"
"That wasn't magic," Shichen shook his head.
"Not magic? So you won't tell the truth—afraid I'll figure you out?" she teased with a grin.
"That's not it. I just don't really care what you think," Shichen replied.
"You talk like you know ."
"Who knows," Shichen didn't deny it.
"You… interest . Mind if I try cutting you once?"
"So that's how you get interested?" Shichen asked helplessly.
"Didn't you say you weren't afraid of ?"
"Then why don't you just cut ?"
"I'm not so random killer. And you're dangerous—I don't want to die."
"Sharp instincts… Fine. Cut whatever you want." Shichen spread his arms, letting her do as she pleased.
"You sure?"
"To prove I'm not taking you seriously, go ahead. Be bold."
"Then…"
The girl tightened her grip on her bow-shaped staff and swung it down—at Shichen's… hair.
A visible arc of magic blade-light burst from the staff and slashed toward him at incredible speed, reaching him in an instant.
Shichen didn't move.
The girl stared—and then saw sothing unbelievable.
The mont her magic touched Shichen's hair, it collapsed.
Like glass shattering, it broke apart and vanished.
"How is that possible?!" she blurted out, stunned.
"You even held back. Now it's hard for to punish you," Shichen said regretfully.
If she'd tried cutting his waist—or sothing more critical—he could've used that as an excuse to teach her a lesson.
Too bad. She still had a conscience.
"What are you?" the girl demanded.
"Before you interrogate soone, shouldn't you introduce yourself?"
"My na is Übel."
"Übel. I'm Shichen," he answered.
"Shichen… Never heard of you."
"Normal. The world's huge. There are tons of people you haven't heard of."
"But why could you block my magic? Did you use so kind of spell?"
"Nothing at all," Shichen said honestly.
"Then why didn't my magic work on your hair? My magic cuts anything I believe I can cut—so it has to cut. And you didn't even cast a defensive spell…" Übel started doubting herself.
"I can tell you. Actually—no magic works on ."
"Huh?" Übel froze, thinking she misheard.
"Relax. You heard right."
"...You're talking nonsense. Who's immune to magic?" Übel couldn't believe it.
"Isn't the proof right in front of you?" Shichen shot back.
"You… didn't lie to ?"
"Do I have any reason to lie to you?"
"...Then what are you?"
"Just a passing adventurer."
"An adventurer…" Übel's eyes shifted, and she suddenly asked, "Hey—can I travel with you?"
"Hm?" Shichen looked at her, puzzled.
"I'm really curious about you~ I don't believe you're truly immune to magic. I'm going to cut you no matter what."
"...You say that, and you think I'd still let you tag along?" Shichen asked.
"Won't you?" Übel angled her body, lifting one leg lightly—an enticing pose.
"...Miss, have so self-respect."
"...You're serious?"
"I'll admit you've got so looks. But take a look at my companions."
"Shichen-sama." Fern climbed down from the wagon and ca up beside him.
Übel's behavior had set off her alarm bells.
This woman was trying to seduce Shichen-sama!
"This is…" Übel's gaze locked onto Fern.
This ordinary-looking girl… had no openings at all.
"My woman." Shichen pulled Fern into his arms.
"Shichen-sama~" Fern hugged him too, smiling brightly.
"Your woman, huh…"
"Hey, don't forget ." Frieren also stepped down and joined in on his other side.
"?" Übel blinked.
"That's right—no, you didn't mishear. I'm his woman too." Frieren clung to Shichen's arm, chin lifted proudly.
Übel looked at Shichen for confirmation.
"Yes," Shichen nodded plainly.
"You have two won?"
"Problem?"
"She's just a kid."
"She's an elf—she's older than your mom."
"Why would you say it like that?!" Frieren smacked Shichen, annoyed.
"Alright…" Übel finally noticed Frieren's pointed ears.
Wait—pointed ears, silver hair, that face…
"Frieren?" Übel asked suddenly.
"Oh? You know ?" Frieren looked at her in surprise.
"Of course… Among mages, who doesn't know you? Then that ans…" Übel turned back to Shichen. "You're the 'mysterious one.'"
"You're pretty sharp," Shichen admitted.
"No wonder you're so strong. I get it now… That just makes want to follow you even more." Übel grinned.
"Why?"
"Why does it matter~? I'm an adventurer too."
"No." Fern refused flatly.
"Why not?" Now it was Übel's turn to ask.
"You're unsafe. You've got ideas about Shichen-sama."
"What, you afraid I'll steal him?" Übel laughed smugly.
"You think I'd be afraid of you?"
"Then there's no problem."
"There is a problem. We're going to take the mage exam. You tagging along is a waste of ti."
"Perfect timing." Übel smiled. "I'm taking the mage exam too. We can go together."
"..." Fern looked to Shichen for help.
"Let her co. It's on the way anyway," Shichen said.
"Mmph…" Fern puffed out her cheeks, clearly unhappy.
She could tell—Shichen-sama was interested in this woman nad Übel.
"How about I make it up to you tonight?" Shichen leaned close and whispered into Fern's ear.
"...All night."
"No problem. I'll make sure you sleep from tomorrow straight into the day after."
"Then… fine."
"Approved? Thanks~" Übel said easily, walking over to the wagon with a light step.
Only then did she notice Stark.
"Who are you?"
"I'm just big bro's underling. Don't mind ." Stark didn't even look at her.
"Oh." Übel truly didn't care. She climbed into the wagon and sat comfortably.
Shichen and the others also got back in, facing Übel, returning to their original positions.
"Stark, let's go."
"Yes!"
The wagon rolled forward again.
No one spoke. Übel's eyes shifted as she watched the three of them being affectionate.
So both of them really were his won.
"The mysterious one," huh.
So that's what he looks like. Pretty handso.
And he can't be cut.
Interesting.
By evening, Shichen and the others reached the magic tropolis—Äußerst.
And the mont they entered the city, Shichen sensed a familiar presence lock onto him.
Serie was here.
And without any warning, she appeared right in front of them—
blonde, petite, arrogantly pretty… exactly the sa as ever.
