Shuten Doji swung the gourd once more.
The shimring gold liquid poured from the mouth, but instead of a stream, it fractured into thousands of tiny droplets that hung suspended in the air like an army of frozen needles. With a flick of one of its six arms, the ogre gave the command.
The droplets shot forward.
It was a torrential downpour of gold. Kashimo wove through the storm, pivoting and lunging with a jagged, frantic grace. Every drop of wine whistled past his robes, splashing into the golden river behind him and leaving small, hissing ripples.
He didn't retreat. He pressed forward, closing the distance between himself and the King of Ogres. Shuten Doji's face split into a grin, but before the expression could fully form, the trap was sprung.
The droplets that had missed Kashimo suddenly detonated.
It wasn't a standard explosion. Each drop fractured into microscopic shards that filled the air in a suffocating golden mist. Kashimo was swallowed by the haze. Shuten Doji's smile widened for a second, then froze.
A grunt of disbelief escaped the monster's throat.
The smoke cleared. Kashimo stood a few paces away, his skin steaming and pitted with corrosive burns, but that was all. The technique that should have bored into his marrow and initiated the assimilation had only managed to scar the surface. His reverse technique was already active, the damaged skin knitting itself back together in seconds.
"I learned this one not too long ago," Kashimo said, his lips curling into a sharp smile. "Falling Blossom Emotion."
Before the words had even settled, he was in the ogre's face. He was moving too fast for the giant to track.
A jab buried itself in Shuten Doji's stomach. The blow was packed with enough voltage to make the creature's six arms shudder. Before it could reclaim its balance, a flash of steel followed. Kashimo swung the Soul Split Katana upward in a savage arc.
The black blade sheared through the right side of the ogre's torso. Two arms fell from their sockets, tumbling into the river. Purple blood sprayed into the air, soaking Kashimo's white robes, but he didn't move to avoid it.
A massive fist slamd into his face.
The impact was heavy and absolute. Kashimo was sent spinning through the air, tumbling several tis before he hit the golden river with a violent splash.
His hair had co completely undone. The long, pale green strands hung loose, matted with blood and sticking to his cheeks and neck. He rose from the wine, his silhouette ssy and wild under the moonlight that leaked through the cracks in the domain.
He licked the blood from his nose. The copper tang of iron filled his mouth.
Who was the last person to push him this far? Was it Arashi Gojo? No. That had been a good fight, but it hadn't felt like a dead end. This was different.
Kashimo stood in the golden river, bloodied and disheveled. He looked at the mountain of a man who remained standing despite the loss of two arms. He watched the twisted, furious expression on the demonic mask.
It didn't matter. He only felt one thing: he was having the ti of his life.
He dropped the Soul Split Katana, the black hilt just barely peeking above the surface of the golden wine. He emptied his hands and flooded his legs with cursed energy. The ground beneath the liquid shattered as he launched himself forward.
There was no blade and no complex technique. There was only a body burning with lightning and a clenched fist.
He drove a punch into the ogre's jaw.
The impact sent Shuten Doji's head snapping back, its massive fra stumbling. The blow left the giant's vision dark and its fangs rattling. And this ti, Kashimo had packed more voltage into the strike than ever before.
Shuten Doji didn't give him a second to breathe. Its one remaining, uninjured arm opened wide, palm facing Kashimo. The golden wine gathered from every corner of the domain, compressing into a sphere the size of a fist in front of the giant's hand. The surface of the sphere rippled with a violent, boiling pressure.
Sake Bomb.
The sphere detonated.
It wasn't just an explosion; it was a release of absolute pressure, every drop of wine packed with enough cursed energy to level a mountain. A flash of gold light swallowed the clearing. The ground disintegrated and the river was forced backward as the air itself was torn apart.
Kashimo was at the center of it.
The sound of tearing flesh was sharp and sickening. His upper body was nearly shredded. His chest, abdon, and shoulders were a mass of deep, jagged wounds that exposed the white of his ribs. His internal organs were visible through the carnage, and blood poured from him like a fountain, staining the gold of the river a deep, bruised red.
But he remained standing.
His blue eyes were still bright. Terrifyingly bright.
Kashimo stood in the wreckage of his own body, his mind moving with a cold, frantic precision. He understood the trick now. The technique wasn't just limited to assimilation; the application was similar to Blood Manipulation, only the blood had been replaced with wine made of cursed energy.
A power like that could build a demonic army in any era. With a domain like this, the ogre was a nightmare. In terms of technique, the giant might have the advantage.
But in terms of raw energy.
Kashimo tightened his fist. He had the edge.
He pushed off the ground, his mangled body a blur as he lunged toward Shuten Doji. He threw the punch. At the exact mont of impact, the delay in his cursed energy dropped to within 0.000001 seconds.
A spark of black and red light erupted.
Black Flash.
