...

[Law] was the energy that ca from precise definitions and rules.

By wielding this power, a warrior was able to fully embody and control specific facets of reality with much more precision and finality than when they attempted to do so with the power of aether. This difference was showcased in the special abilities that manifested in Aether Saints, Aether Demigods, and Aether Deities, i.e., [Spirit Anchor], [Spatial Creation], and [True Creation].

Not only that, but Aether Deities were even able to bestow a portion of their [Law] power to those they consider their disciples, their subordinates.

Granted, this [Law] wasn’t a one for one copy of how the deity in question wielded it. Everyone had their own interpretation of how certain facets of reality worked, after all.

However, there were a few drawbacks to absorbing the power of [Law].

By absorbing a [Law] of a specific type, of a specific affinity, a warrior becos increasingly incompatible with aether arts that require other types of aether affinity expressions.

For example, a regular aether warrior with an ice-affinity aether formula may have difficulty using a fire-affinity aether art, but they would still be able to do so. An advanced Aether Saint or above, though, one who spent a long ti comprehending the power of ice [Law] would find the task nearly impossible.

Additionally, the constant exposure to pure [Law] energy that belonged to a specific affinity made them incompatible with other types of [Law] to the point of violent rejection.

At lower levels, this rejection would manifest as nausea or physical discomfort.

At higher levels, this rejection would take the form of violent explosions that would either destroy the poor sap or level everything around them in a several-mile radius.

True Aether Deities that were absolutely saturated with [Law] never reached the point of violent rejection of mass destruction, unless in combat where the battle between Aether Deities was essentially a war between facets of reality asserting dominance, while the warriors beneath this vaunted rank had a nasty habit of imploding due to their inability to cope.

If one ever finds themselves in a situation where soone is forced to deal with conflicting [Laws], take heed and run as far away as you possibly can.

The destruction could be...fatal.

...Uh oh...

^What the fuck...^ Antonio comnted as he stared on in shock and mild horror.

When Halcon’s sword beca embedded in Condorado’s arm, all the warriors assud that nothing major would happen.

Injuries such as vicious impalents were common during the course of battle, and were usually dealt with in a tily manner with a judicious application of aether or healing items.

However, this logic didn’t exactly apply when [Law] was involved.

^GaH! A TesTammnEnt to ouR pOwER! And YEt a bane to my present! How absurd!^

Condorado had yet to extract the sword out of his arm, because he couldn’t. Growing around the blade and wound were dozens upon dozens of feathers that seed to constantly grow and fall out at an absurd rate.

The rate of feather growth was so high, that when Condorado attempted to extract the blade, the feathers would literally jam the blade part way through. The only way he could resolve this issue was to overco the conflicting [Law] in his arm.

A mont such as this would’ve been a perfect opportunity for either side of this conflict to take advantage and try to to turn it in their favor. However, neither side chose to do so.

Sothing about this release of violent energy, this clash of [Law], instinctually kept most of the mortal fighters in place. Hell, the initial explosion of energy caused the surrounding mudn to suddenly evaporate.

No explosions.

No splatter.

Just...gone.

’It’s just one guy dealing with malignant internal energy...so why can’t I fucking breathe?!’

’This...this is the domain of the divine?!’

From their mortal perspectives, this clash of [Law], an energy that most of them were unqualified to even touch, was the equivalent of watching a natural disaster unfold and expand. They just couldn’t help but to watch.

However, amongst this group of on-lookers, there were two individual that were still of their right minds and able to move. Then again, it probably helped that they were cultivating the energy that was the exact opposite of [Law].

...[Chaos] for the win, baby...

’Okay, wasn’t expecting that...what the fuck?!’ Screamira ntally scread at Logos and Pathos as she stood on guard in the presence of the conflicting [Law] before her.

She didn’t an to impale Condorado’s arm with Halcon’s sword, but she kind of happy it did...up until all of the screaming and psychotic energy began to flood the room and stunlock most of the mortals in the room.

The only mortal in the room unaffected by this raging [Law] outburst was Antonio, and that cat was making it a point to stay away from Condorado. In fact, he had made his way over to Screamira to get the rundown on what the fuck was going on.

[Screamira, I know you’re connected to the Library, what the fuck is going on?]

[Give a second,] Screamira answered Antonio before relaying the question to Logos and Pathos.

[Logos. Pathos. What the fuck?]

=What you are witnessing is the reason why no mortal should ever touch [Law] energy until they reach Aether Saint status, or at the very least, have the right constitution for the stuff,= Logos answered indirectly while snorting in distaste. =What is it with mortals always trying to follow the path of gods before understanding what that actually entails?=

[In an understandable language, please?]

[Oh...]

After being inford about the nature of [Law], Screar quickly briefed Antonio about the situation.

Needless to say, he went wide-eyed over the revelation.

[These masked weirdos have that sort of power?! But they don’t feel like Aether Saints.]

[They’re not, weren’t you listening?] Screamira asked rhetorically. [They’re disciples of Smoking Mirror, as in, he gave them a small droplet of Law power.]

[Does that an he’s already-]

[No,] Screamira quickly repudiated. [If that was the case, he wouldn’t be down here trying to build an army.]

[Ah.]

^Ga-CAAAW!^

In the scant few monts Screamira and Antonio had exchanged their words, the situation with Condorado had gotten worse.

Despite being bestowed [Law] by Smoking Mirror, the foul fowls had only focused on how to use this power against aether warriors, anima wielders, and possible [Chaos] shapers and hadn’t actually practiced for situations where they would be forced to confront [Law] or deal with possible friendly fire.

In the words of their superior, the chances of them having to fight another Aether Saint or above were incredibly low, so it didn’t matter to them in the slightest whether or not they were prepared for such situations to arise. And now they were paying for that lack of foresight.

As the feathers around his wound began to grow out of control, Condorado began to grow and mutate. At the sight of this ongoing change, Screamira’s eyes went wide in shock and disbelief.

[Is...is this guy becoming undone? Is he becoming an Abomination?!] Screamira asked, recalling the previous tis such an event had transpired.

Logos and Pathos answered simultaneously.

[And these paths are ...]

[And let guess, path two is that he turns into a giant monster that will rampage through this tight ass underground catacomb and make shit incredibly difficult for us to win?] Screamira interjected before being inford the news.

[Fuck.]

[...right.]

Realizing that this fight wasn’t sothing they had to finish in the first place, Screamira first inford Antonio about what their plan of action was going to be.

[The freaky birdie over there is either going to explode or do sothing terrible, so I need you to help grab the others while I grab my fellow kaijin. After which, we’re getting the fuck out of here faster than a jackrabbit with a fire on their ass.]

[I don’t know the way out!]

[We did,] Screamira inford Antonio before jumping, grabbing her fellow kaijin, and landing back on the ground. [Now, grab Olstenna and Alice while I go get Harriet.]

[R-right.]

The duo found little resistance from their less [Chaos]-infused companions, and proceeded to grab them in a manner that was a touch rougher than anticipated. Once they were secured, they proceeded to run like hell.

[We make a right here, now move!]

...anwhile, at the library...
