anwhile, as the shooting of SMS continued smoothly across Chennai, another major event had arrived that was shaking the entire cricketing world.
The 2009 IPL auction.
Even before the auction officially began, sports channels across India had already started nonstop discussions:
foreign star signings,
franchise strategies,
remaining purse balances,
young dostic talents,
And especially the U-19 World Cup stars who were entering the auction pool for the very first ti.
And among all those nas…
Karuppu's na had beco one of the hottest discussion topics.
Not just because of his U-19 World Cup heroics.
But because he was a rare package:
destructive finisher,
genuine fast bowler,
Athletic fielder,
youth icon,
And already nationally famous through cinema.
That combination itself made him comrcially explosive.
Even cricket experts admitted openly how they were expecting a good buy for him.
"If managed properly …this boy can beco face of franchise cricket."
That evening, inside the Sivakumar household, the entire family had gathered before the television.
The atmosphere almost resembled another World Cup final.
Tea cups.
Snacks.
News channels switching constantly.
Auction tables flashing on screen.
anwhile Karuppu sat surprisingly relaxed on the sofa wearing loose track pants while spinning a cricket ball casually between his fingers.
Unlike everyone else around him…
He genuinely didn't seem too nervous.
Brindha however was behaving like she herself was entering auction.
Every few seconds she would ask him a questions.
"How much will you go for?"
"Which team do you want?"
"If Chennai buys you don't forget us after becoming superstar!"
Karuppu calmly replied her.
"If nobody buys … I'll beco local tennis ball legend."
Imdiately Brindha threw cushion at him.
Seeing he still has a nerves to make fun of the situation.
Nearby, Suriya and Karthi were equally invested in the auction now.
As Jothika has left to Mumbai for shooting a comrcials she had signed for.
"...."
"...."
Because despite all the cinema chaos surrounding their brother… Cricket still remained deeply important to him.
And today was another major step in that journey.
On television, the auction finally began.
One by one, major international nas started triggering bidding wars between franchises.
The room itself beca lively watching the numbers rise absurdly.
When Kevin Pietersen went for record money, even Karthi whistled loudly as RCB brought Pietersen.
Then ca Andrew Flintoff.
Another massive battle.
News anchors nearly scread discussing the numbers as CSK brought him.
"Almost ten crores!"
"Historic bids!"
"IPL revolutionizing cricket economy!"
Soon afterward, other major buys followed.
JP Duminy being picked up by Mumbai Indians for huge money triggered another round of analysis discussions.
The atmosphere in the house slowly beca more tense as the auction moved closer toward the younger dostic player categories.
Then finally—Karuppu's na appeared on screen.
The entire room instinctively beca silent.
"...."
"...."
"...."
Even Brindha stopped mid-snack.
The auctioneer announced his base price.
"Ten lakhs."
Imdiately the first paddle rose.
Then another. Then another.
Within seconds the price started climbing rapidly.
The family stared at the television almost disbelievingly.
Because this was no ordinary bidding anymore.
Multiple franchises had entered aggressively.
The comntators themselves sounded shocked as they explained what is going on.
"Teams clearly see long-term value here."
"Rare pace-bowling all-round talent."
"Marketability factor also enormous."
The price kept climbing.
Fifty lakhs... Seventy... One crore...
One and a half... Two...
At one point nearly all eight franchises had shown interest.
But slowly reality began affecting several teams.
So franchises had already heavily spent large portions of their purse on international players earlier.
Especially:
Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore
who still tried pushing aggressively despite financial limitations.
Karuppu himself quietly watched the television now with more attention finally.
"...."
Because now the numbers had beco genuinely serious.
The comntators started openly discussing how unusual this was for a U-19 player.
Then suddenly the battle narrowed.
Only two teams remained.
RCB who had bid last bit of money in their purse.
And Mumbai Indians. The bids intensified further.
Finally—Mumbai swooped in decisively.
"Five crores."
The room itself froze for one second.
"...."
"...."
"...."
Even the television panel sounded stunned.
For a U-19 player… That amount during that era was enormous.
Absolutely enormous. And more importantly—Mumbai Indians had chosen him.
A franchise known for aggressively identifying high-ceiling talent.
That itself sent massive ssage to the cricketing world.
The hamr finally ca down.
"Sold."
Imdiately the Sivakumar household exploded.
Brindha scread first and jumped directly onto Karuppu hugging him tightly.
Karthi and Suriya instantly attacked him from both sides showering glitter papers they had apparently secretly prepared already.
"IPL STAR from our ho!"
"Five crores da!"
Karuppu imdiately coughed dramatically as glitter entered his face.
"Adei1 its a murder attempt!"
anwhile Lakshmi looked emotional more than excited.
And nearby, Sivakumar simply sat quietly smiling with unmistakable pride in his eyes.
Because for him… This wasn't about money.
It was about watching his son succeed in yet another field through sheer hard work and talent.
Then naturally—Karuppu's mobile phone began exploding nonstop.
Calls.
ssages.
Notifications.
The first call ca from Darshan.
"Dei millionaire!"
Imdiately followed by Mahendran screaming louder than necessary through speakerphone.
Then ca calls from:
cricket friends,
industry contacts,
teammates,
directors, and journalists.
Soon after, Akshara Haasan called excitedly.
Halfway through the conversation, the phone was suddenly stolen by Shruti Haasan who loudly demanded party.
Then unexpectedly—Kamal Haasan himself ca on the line briefly and congratulated him warmly.
Karuppu imdiately sat straighter respectfully during the call.
Then ca another call.
Nayanthara.
Her voice carried genuine happiness while congratulating him.
"You're becoming a big star in cricket now."
Karuppu smirked slightly hearing that.
-Smirk!
Before that conversation even properly ended…
Another incoming call flashed.
Tamannaah Bhatia.
The mont he attended, her first sentence was imdiate:
"I want Party. No escape. Absolute Party..."
Karuppu laughed loudly.
"-Haha!!!"
"Everybody asking only party."
anwhile a congratulatory ssage arrived from Neetu Chandra too.
The mobile practically refused to stay silent anymore.
Watching all this chaos unfold around him, Brindha suddenly grabbed his phone dramatically and started scrolling through the contact list suspiciously.
Then she looked toward Lakshmi with fake shock.
"Amma1…"
"This fellow has more girl's numbers than mine."
The entire hall burst into laughter instantly.
Karuppu imdiately tried snatching the phone back.
"Give it back properly! My dear sister."
But Brindha escaped behind Sivakumar still laughing loudly while the rest of the family continued teasing him rcilessly.
And sowhere in the middle of: glitter-filled hall, nonstop phone calls, cricket celebrations, and family laughter…
Karuppu quietly realized sothing.
His life was no longer balancing just two worlds anymore.
Cinema and cricket had now fully collided together.
The celebrations inside the Sivakumar household still hadn't properly settled down.
Glitter pieces remained scattered all over the hall floor.
Brindha was still occasionally laughing while teasing Karuppu about his "VIP female contacts list."
anwhile the television channels continued replaying:
IPL auction highlights,
Mumbai Indians bidding war,
and Karuppu's na flashing repeatedly across sports tickers.
Even now, several news channels had started discussing him as:
"The most expensive Indian U-19 player of the auction."
Which honestly sounded surreal even to the family.
Karuppu himself had finally escaped the hall temporarily and moved toward the balcony with his mobile still vibrating nonstop from calls and ssages.
The cool Chennai night breeze hit his face softly while he leaned against the railing trying to breathe peacefully for two minutes.
That peace lasted exactly twelve seconds.
His mobile rang again.
This ti, however… The number was unknown.
Karuppu frowned slightly before attending the call.
"Halo1?"
From the other side ca a calm professional voice.
"Hello Karuppu. This is Lalchand Rajput."
The mont the na registered, Karuppu straightened slightly instinctively.
Lalchand Rajput was already a respected figure in Indian cricket circles and currently associated with Mumbai Indians managent.
Imdiately Karuppu's tone beca more attentive.
"Good evening sir."
From the other side, Rajput sounded warm and direct.
"First of all… Congratulations."
"You created quite a fight in the auction today."
A small smile appeared on Karuppu's face hearing that.
"Thank you sir."
Rajput chuckled lightly.
"No pressure …but expectations are very high."
That sentence carried weight naturally.
Because Mumbai Indians did not spend five crores on excitent alone.
They clearly saw long-term value in him.
Rajput continued speaking professionally after a few monts of casual congratulations.
He inford Karuppu about the upcoming Mumbai Indians preparation camp which would begin in approximately twenty days.
The primary training sessions and orientation would take place at:
Reliance Corporate Park
Rajput briefly explained the structure:
fitness assessnts,
bowling evaluations,
batting role discussions,
dia preparations,
And team bonding sessions before the tournant.
"Make sure you arrive on ti,"
He added calmly he don't want this young talent to not sync with the team.
"We'll be planning combinations early."
Karuppu imdiately nodded even though the other man obviously couldn't see it.
-Nod!
"No problem sir. I'll be there."
Then after a slight pause, Karuppu explained honestly about his current situation.
He inford Rajput about:
Ongoing film shooting schedules,
current commitnts,
and the need to complete them before fully shifting into IPL preparation mode.
However, he clarified imdiately,
"The current schedule will finish before camp starts."
"There won't be any conflict."
Rajput seed satisfied hearing that.
Honestly, Mumbai Indians managent already knew about Karuppu's film career before bidding.
Since his Aadhavan movie had ended it's run at 1010 cores all over the world.
Ignoring it would have been impossible considering the dia storm surrounding him.
But hearing him speak responsibly and clearly about schedule managent gave a positive impression.
"Good,"
Rajput replied satisfied with the answer.
"Once camp starts… cricket should be focused fully."
Karuppu smiled slightly.
"Understood sir."
Then after another brief conversation regarding travel arrangents and reporting details, the call slowly ended.
"See you in Mumbai."
"Thank you sir."
The line disconnected.
For a few quiet seconds afterward,
Karuppu simply stood there holding the phone loosely while looking out toward the Chennai night sky.
And for the first ti since the auction ended…
The reality truly settled inside him properly.
This wasn't just hype anymore.
Not just dia excitent. Not just headlines.
He was now officially part of: Mumbai Indians.
One of the biggest cricket franchises in the world. Known for it's stars and talent scouting.
And sowhere deep inside him…
The cricketer side of Karuppu slowly awakened fully again.
Not actor. Not celebrity. Not dia sensation.
Just competitor.
From inside the house, Karthi's loud voice suddenly interrupted the mont completely.
"DEI IPL STAR!"
"Amma1 asking if five crores ans you'll finally buy your own car!"
Imdiately Brindha's voice followed.
"First ask him to recharge my mobile properly!"
Karuppu closed his eyes for one second before laughing helplessly to himself.
Peace inside this family was impossible.
Still smiling, he slipped the mobile back into his pocket and walked back inside the noisy house.
Because tomorrow morning…
He would return to film shooting once again.
And twenty days later—
Another completely different battlefield would begin in Mumbai.
