Chapter 454 – A reason to like dancing
"Well, I will be damned." Kaden hissed, not quite believing that such a thing was possible. But the question was... why shouldn’t it be possible?
That kiss was special. That, at least, he could admit.
’Still, if she has obtained so benefits thanks to that kiss, does it an I did too?’
If yes, what did he obtain?
"Why, Sorrow bless , do you look unhappy about it?" Rea cut his thoughts short, summoning back his attention to her. "You should be jubilant, Kaden."
"About getting my power stolen?" He smiled sarcastically. "Aren’t you right? Should I stand up and sing too?"
’Ah, I always do that, don’t I? Stealing the power of others. But only I have the right to do so. Not others to . At least, not without my magnanimous consent.’
"I obtained nothing but passive effects." Rea replied, rolling her eyes. "Nothing too serious, Kaden. So be happy, we got the opportunity to watch a goddess struggling to waft away darkness."
"A rare sight, I suppose."
"Very much so. And the scenery is just perfect." She said, looking around the horrific gore around. "Can we co—!"
"No."
"I didn’t even—!"
"No need to finish. I already know where you are going. And it’s a bloody no."
"Sorrow burn , why are you so rude today? Do you not love anymore because of my neck scars?" Her voice was harsh, staring deep into Kaden’s eyes, brushing the stitch on her neck softly.
Kaden noticed a trembling in her body every ti she touched it. At that, he finally rembered that Rea... did indeed die.
She died because she was protecting him. She died because she stayed loyal even while facing overwhelming odds. She died because she didn’t abandon him when she could.
Now she was in that situation, in that terrible state, with a scar that would never fade away — ntally and physically and emotionally.
She was marked forever. A mark that would always remind her of her death, and of her sacrifice.
Rea Thornspire had proved him her sincerity, and that in a way he never expected.
Recalling all of that, and realizing the trendous effort and ntal power Rea was exercising to not break down at that instant, Kaden exhaled, before getting up.
The God-Touched instantly frowned, stretching her hands, pressing them down on Kaden.
"Go back. Why are you getting up?"
Kaden evaded her hands swiftly, then twisted his body in a way Rea found herself sitting in front of him; her back pressed on his chest.
She yelped at the suddenness of the situation.
"I have rested enough." Kaden whispered. "It’s your turn to be coddled."
"I don’t mind spoiling you."
"What about you, then?"
"Spoiling you is equal to spoiling myself. Sorrow take my heart, don’t underestimate the contentnt I feel watching you content."
Kaden’s mouth beca tight-lipped for a mont, dazed by the heavy sincerity behind each of Rea’s words.
He smiled next, grasping the white hair of Rea softly. "Then allow to experience what you have experienced. Happy because you are happy. Must be quite sothing."
"Will you—!"
"Do you like music?" Kaden asked abruptly.
"Huh? I don’t know. I never thought about it."
’I certainly never had the opportunity to do so.’ Rea added inwardly.
"But do you?" Rea retorted, closing her eyes peacefully, listening to the growl of pain of Woeful kneeling in front of them, and Kaden caressing her hair.
"?" Kaden exclaid. "Ah, well, I don’t dislike it. But I am not particularly fond of it either. Though, I do know soone whose music could be her entire life. If only life allowed her that much."
Rea froze. "She?" She grated. "Her?" Her voice beca cold. "Don’t tell it’s another one, Kaden. Sorrow burn , I will—!"
"It’s a friend."
"You don’t need friends. Especially girls. And why are there so many girls around you, Kaden?"
"Beauty’s privilege, I guess. Do you see ? I am respectfully stunning."
"Sorrow’s breath, a man aware of his beauty is disgusting."
"Then oh you would have loved Sirius Asterion."
"Who—!"
"Now, let’s make you like sothing." Kaden interrupted her before getting up to his feet. Rea whirled on him, seeing him stretching his right hand towards her in an inviting gesture.
"I hardly like anything, Kaden. Except money and making other people suffer." She whispered, taking reluctantly his hand before joining him by standing in front of him.
"Maybe it’s ti for you to like sothing more... normal?" He answered, taking both her hands. "Do you rember how we first t after years apart?"
Rea’s eyes flashed with instant recognition. "In that piss-soaked tavern of wolves?" She chuckled. "While dancing?"
"Yes. We t again on a dance floor." He grinned. "Why not make it sothing morable? Dancing, I an. I don’t particularly like it. And you neither. But we can learn to do so."
"Romantic, aren’t you?"
"God forbid a fiancé wants to do his best."
Rea cackled, then closed the distance between them, plastering her body against his. She put her forehead on his own, her nose on his own, her lips brushing softly against his own.
"I like the proposal." She murmured, smiling widely. "What will we dance?"
"I don’t know." Kaden said, giving her a smack, then he moved, Rea following closely. "Let’s just dance."
"Without stop." Rea instinctively added.
Kaden nodded.
"Without stop. Continuously, relentlessly."
Their eyes locked into each other. They moved atop the sea of blood — blood splashing, crimson smoke swirling around them — their dance like one made for the dead god of death.
The two lovers were in eerie sync, their footsteps shaping a mystical pattern across the bloody water.
The sight was srizing, and the sky began to brighten as if honoring the ritualistic dance.
Just like that, Rea and Kaden danced for the second ti, laughing while a goddess was in pain beside them.
And so, two people who didn’t like dancing found a reason to like dancing because of each other.
...
"Argh!"
Kaden and Rea finally stopped their dance, their heads snapping toward Woeful who was now awake.
Her face was drenched in sweat, but also in exhaustion that seed to co from her very existence.
She lifted her head to look at them, her face crunching into one of outrage and pain at the sight of the couple lovingly holding hands.
"I see, now." Kaden whispered, tilting his head at the goddess.
"See what, Protheus?" She spat, gingerly getting up, her mind wishing to shut down. She never expected the Darkness of this mortal to be in such a way.
’Heavens, how did he have the partial Darkness of Thirty-Three? Not only. There is also the one of The Slave? How? Is that why his Will is in such a way?’
There were too many things inside Kaden’s mind that she doubted even he himself was aware of. Only after going through the Darkness of the Dead did Woeful truly understand...
...they were severely underestimating Protheus.
This young man should either be tad completely, or killed outright. There was no other way — no third option — and trying to figure out another way would put them into serious trouble.
’With him at her side, it would be difficult to take over Pandora. Heavens, I loathe this man.’
Yet strangely, Woeful was trying to find a third reason. Because she didn’t want to kill him, neither ta him.
She wanted him to willingly accept her, then choose to be with her knowing she was and would be the better version of Rea.
And that was what would cause her downfall.
"You are weaker than your real self because of occupying the body of a mortal." Kaden said, smiling.
He turned next to Rea. "Guess she cared about you enough to hold herself back."
Rea scowled. "Should I be grateful?"
"You can try."
"Sorrow take you, Kaden."
"Thanks for the blessing." Kaden chuckled, then whirled back on Woeful, his smile getting wider.
"Are you ready, Rea?"
"Ready for what?" Woeful said instead, narrowing her eyes.
Kaden still replied.
"For a delicious act of Blasphemy."
