Kayden
I heard a deep sigh, leaning against the cool, heavy wall of the jet’s lavatory, my breath coming out slowly as my doctor friend’s voice turned into a shrill, judgntal ring in my ear.
The team’s private jet was preparing to take off, but I had sneaked to the lavatory because we still had twenty minutes before takeoff.
After telling Leo everything, he yelled so loud I had to take the phone from my ear.
’’You are playing with fire and your life, Kayden! Are you insane?’’ Leo scread through the phone.
I rolled my eyes, wincing as I pulled the device away from my ear.
’’You are on heavy suppressants, then you had sex with an alpha in his ruts, and he knotted you, Kayden! And then you dump ergency contraceptives into your system! Your body is in a state of hormonal war! Are you trying to kill yourself, you crazy boy!’’
’’I handled it, Leo,’’ I hissed, my eyes fixed on the locked door. In a mont, the jet was going to take off.
Leo scoffed. ’’You an you consud more suppressants than could kill you, right? You didn’t handle anything! That stomach pain you experienced is just the tip of the iceberg. That was your system reacting to him. I don’t understand how you could have let him fuck you, Kayden,’’ he let out a groan.
’’When I agreed to help you, agreed to this, we both agreed you wouldn’t have anything to do with alphas, but you had sex with a true alpha, and you didn’t stop him from knotting you. Don’t forget you are an oga, and no matter how many suppressants you pumped into your system, you have a high chance of getting pregnant, especially since you are a special oga.’’
I rubbed my face and inhaled deeply, understanding what he ant by that.
’’Kayden, I don’t know what to say, but your body has recognized Rhys as its fated bond. The stomach pain? That’s your body rejecting the lack of a full mark. Unless that marking is complete, unless he claims you fully, that condition is only going to get more agonizing.’’
I swallowed hard and rubbed my face once more. ’’I can fight it,’’ I whispered. ’’Tell what I can do to stop it, what suppressant I can use and stop it.’’
’’You can’t! You are an oga primus,’’ Leo said, sighing. ’’You are a special attractor type. It’s why I warned you to stay off alphas. You told you wanted to be a hockey player, and then you let an alpha knot you, which is stupid. If the world finds an oga primus is hiding in a hockey team, it’s over for you.’’
’’Leo... I...’’ I paused, placing my head against the wall. ’’He was too attractive, and the temptation was too strong. I couldn’t....’’
"Both of you seed to be compatible. Oga primus are known to be compatible with true alphas, and now that you both have fucked, your chemistry is going to turn both of you into animals. You’ll get hit with a sexual hunger so thick you won’t be able to think straight, and that alpha would want to take you every second. You are both going to lose your minds.’’
I gripped the phone tighter and looked up as the fasten seatbelt sign chid above . ’’We are about to take off now, but please let know. Is there anything at all I can do? I just can’t quit now that I am close to my biggest dreams?’’
’’There is only one thing you can do, Kayden,’’ Leo’s said, his voice dead serious. ’’Stay the hell away from him. If you two try fucking again, there will be no solution other than for him to mark you permanently. With your oga nature and his true alpha status, you won’t be able to want anyone or anything else except for him. He will find out about you sooner than you expect.’’
I didn’t want that. Ever.
The pilot’s voice sounded over the intercom. ’’Good evening, gentlen, this is your captain speaking. We are cleared for departure...’’
’’I will talk to you later, Leo. We are about to take off."
’’Don’t call unless you are dead, Kayden,’’ Leo warned, and before I could speak, he hung up on .
I let out a sigh, turned off my phone, and walked out of the lavatory. I moved down the aisle, looking around to see all the teammates already settled in their seats.
There was one empty seat beside Rhys, who was seated by the window, his massive fra taking up most of the space, his arms crossed over his chest.
My body scread at to sit down beside him, but I rembered Leo’s warning to stay away from him, and I looked away and stopped at the row facing him, where Miller Reid was settling in.
I put a smile on my face and pretended to squeeze my eyes shut for a second as if I were in physical pain, which wasn’t entirely a lie.
’’Hey Miller?’’ I whispered, leaning against the headrest. ’’My stomach... It’s really doing a number on . Any chance we could swap? I need the window side to lean against, or I am gonna lose it.’’
Miller looked up, his expression shifting from confusion to genuine concern. ’’Damn, Kay, sure, yeah, man. Take it.’’
’’Thanks, I owe you one,’’ I muttered, sliding into Miller’s seat.
I quickly fastened the belt, pulling it tightly against my aching abdon, and stared hard at the back of the seat in front of as the jet began its roar down the runway. I turned towards the window, pretending I didn’t see Rhys.
Once we were airborne, the pressure leveled out. I couldn’t help but turn my head towards his side.
And just like I thought, Rhys was looking back at . His piercing blue eyes were dark, swirling with a volatile mix of anger and possessiveness; his jaw was set so tight I thought his teeth might crack.
Why the hell was he angry when he was the one who had ignored first on ice?
I let out a long, shaky sigh and turned back to the window, watching the city lights disappear into the clouds.
If the only way to stay on the team were to avoid Rhys, I would do it.
