Now reading: Chapter 43: Binding from Knots of the Hybrid Queen: Claimed by Four Alphas, a Fantasy novel by ChisomNwogu0885.

The ceremony started at sunset which ant I had exactly thirty minutes to stand there in ceremonial robes that Morgana had insisted were traditional and also incredibly uncomfortable while two hundred people watched try not to trip over the hem.

Kael stood at my back, solid and certain through the bond.

Riven to my left, his calm bleeding through our connection.

Draven to my right, controlled precision anchoring .

Thorne in front—barely cleared by healers but refusing to miss this—his feral protectiveness wrapping around like armor.

All four of them. All four bonds thrumming steady and strong. All four of them believing I could do this even when I wasn’t sure I believed it myself.

The visiting Alphas stood in the outer circle—Marcus and Sienna and Thomas and Chen—with their packs arranged behind them in formations that probably had strategic aning I didn’t understand.

Vampires to the east, twenty of them including Lysander who was watching with that calculating expression that made want to punch him.

Witches to the west, fifteen plus Morgana at the front holding the ceremonial blade we’d use for the blood oath part of this whole thing.

Blood oath. Because apparently binding an alliance required actual blood, which tracked given we were dealing with supernatural politics where everything was dramatic and also potentially deadly.

"We gather at the threshold between day and night." Morgana’s voice carried across the clearing. "Between light and shadow. Between what was and what will be."

Oh good. Poetic opening. My favorite.

The words washed over —sothing about ancient prophecies and hybrid blood and factions divided now becoming one—and I tried to focus but honestly my brain was stuck on the fact that I was about to promise things in front of everyone and what if I ssed up the words or tripped or accidentally set sothing on fire with uncontrolled magic?

Through Kael’s bond I caught his amusent and tried not to glare at him because apparently my anxiety was funny.

"Selene Kane." Morgana’s voice pulled back to the present. "Step forward."

Right. Stepping forward. I could do that.

I stepped forward and managed not to trip on the robes, which felt like a minor victory.

"Do you accept the mantle of Hybrid Queen?" Her eyes were serious. "Do you accept the responsibility of uniting the factions against the darkness that threatens to consu us all?"

The darkness. The demon. The thing that had killed twenty-eight people and wounded my mates and would absolutely co back for more unless we stopped it.

"I accept." The words ca out steadier than I expected.

"Do you pledge to defend all factions equally? To treat wolf and vampire and witch as one united force rather than separate territories?"

That was trickier because honestly I barely understood pack politics let alone coven dynamics or witch council hierarchies, but the alternative was letting everyone get picked off individually so yeah.

"I pledge."

"Do you swear to lead with wisdom even when wisdom demands sacrifice?" Her voice dropped. "To make choices that may cost you personally for the good of all?"

Oh. That was—that was asking if I’d sacrifice myself if needed. If I’d die to save everyone else.

Through all four bonds I felt them spike with protective fury and had to push calm before they did sothing stupid like veto an oath I needed to make.

"I swear." Quieter this ti because my throat was doing that thing again.

Morgana held out the ceremonial blade—silver and etched with symbols I didn’t recognize—and I took it because apparently this was happening now.

"Blood of the Hybrid Queen." She gestured to my palm. "Given freely to seal the alliance."

I pressed the blade to my palm and watched blood well up dark red against my skin, and when Morgana held out the ceremonial bowl I let it drip into whatever magical mixture they’d prepared.

The pain was sharp and imdiate and also kind of grounding because at least physical pain was simple compared to emotional anxiety.

"Blood of the Alpha King." Kael stepped forward and cut his palm without hesitating, his blood mixing with mine in the bowl.

Then Riven. Then Draven. Then Thorne.

Five different bloodlines mixing together in one bowl that started glowing with light that definitely wasn’t natural.

"The factions acknowledge the Hybrid Queen." Morgana’s voice rose. "Step forward and pledge your allegiance."

Alpha Marcus was first. "The Northern Ridge Pack pledges our strength to the alliance. We fight as one until the demon falls."

One by one they ca forward—wolves and vampires and witches—each pledging so version of we’ll fight with you until this is over.

Even Lysander, though his pledge was wrapped in so many conditional clauses I almost missed the actual commitnt buried in the fancy language.

The bowl’s glow intensified and Morgana started chanting in what sounded like Latin or maybe ancient witch dialect, and then the light exploded outward in a wave that hit everyone in the clearing at once.

Through the bonds I felt it—the alliance snapping into place like a sixth connection, tying to every person who’d pledged—and the weight of it nearly knocked over.

Two hundred connections. Two hundred lives bound to mine through magical oath.

Two hundred people I was now responsible for keeping alive.

My knees did that wobbling thing again but Thorne was there before I could fall, his hand catching my elbow.

"Done." His voice was rough. Quiet.

Done. The alliance was sealed. Everyone was bound. We were officially one united force against whatever the demon threw at us next.

Now we just had to survive long enough to make it matter.

The ceremony dissolved into celebration—food and drink and wolves shifting to run off the energy of a binding that powerful—but I couldn’t make myself join in because the weight of two hundred connections was sitting heavy in my chest and I needed quiet.

I made it to the roof—because of course I did, that was apparently my trauma processing location—and stood there watching the territory spread out below while my brain tried to process what I’d just done.

"Hybrid Queen." The title still didn’t fit right. "Leader of the alliance. Responsible for everyone."

"You’re spiraling." Riven’s voice ca from behind and I turned to find all four of them standing there.

"I’m processing." The distinction mattered. "There’s a difference."

"Is there?" But Kael’s voice was gentle. Understanding.

Maybe not. Maybe spiraling and processing were just two words for the sa thing.

"Two hundred people." The number kept bouncing around my skull. "I can feel them through the alliance bond. All of them. Their lives tied to mine."

"And yours tied to theirs." Draven moved closer. "It goes both ways. You’re not carrying them alone."

Logically I knew that. Emotionally I was still stuck on the part where if I died everyone else’s alliance binding shattered and they all probably died separately.

"The demon will co back." Not a question. "Stronger than before."

"Probably." Thorne’s honesty was brutal and also appreciated. "So we prepare."

Right. Prepare. We could prepare.

We had ti. Not much, but so.

And we had an alliance that was formally bound and magically sealed and absolutely wouldn’t break unless I died.

No pressure.

Through all four bonds I felt their combined certainty that we’d survive this, and I wanted so badly to believe them.

Three days since the battle. Three days of recovery and preparation.

Now the real work started.
