SONIA’S POV
"What happened to you?" I asked again just in case she had not heard before.
She blinked multiple tis, and rose to her feet, despite my hands still stuck on her shoulders.
"Let’s talk in private," she said.
Pulling her body out of my touch, I jolted in shock, as I was sprung into reality by an invisible force.
I didn’t notice Ramon’s eyes on , as I followed behind the alpha who was already halfway out of the room.
She didn’t stop until she opened the door to another room, and stepped in.
I followed behind her, and shut the door. It was at this point I beca really worried. I couldn’t for the life of explain what I had just done.
It had never happened before. Sure, I felt people’s grief like it was my own. How else could a healer heal, if they couldn’t put themselves in other people’s shoes? But it had never manifested in such blatant disregard of others personal space, much less an alphas.
If Ramon wasn’t going to kill , she probably would, for embarrassing her.
But when she turned around, and a smile graced her face, I was taken aback.
"You really are a healer."
I wasn’t expecting those words to co out of her mouth. She sounded pleased, and also very much relieved. It made my thundering heart relax a little.
"I don’t know if I am one. I just heal people sotis," I said as modestly as I could muster.
"Nonsense!" She dismissed my words with a wave of her hand. "I knew your mother. She was the strongest healer I ever encountered. Unfortunately, not many people knew just how powerful she was."
I had stopped listening long after she said she knew my mother. For so long, I’ve wanted to et soone who could tell about her.
Her na was like a curse in my household. You were not to ntion, or ever whisper it. So I had gone this long in ignorance. Suffering in silence because my father rebuked every ntion of my mother.
"You— you really knew her?" I stuttered.
She took a step and then another step closer to . Stopping in front of , it was her turn to grab my shoulders and squeeze gently. "I knew her. She was just as beautiful as you are. Thinking about it now, you look just like her. Maybe that is why you have her powers. And if it’s true, if there’s an iota of truth to what I feel, then maybe you can help ."
She dropped to her knees in front of , as her hands dropped to the side. That movent startled , and I almost ran away. But her hand grabbed my feet instead, and she cried.
There was that raw slicing pain again. It hit my chest like a whirlwind, and threatened to swallow .
Sothing had happened. Sothing bad. Every part of my body was compelled to take away her misery. To do everything I could so she would smile again.
"Why are you so sad?" I found my voice a few seconds into her tears.
"Because it hurts so bad." The sound of her voice was muffled by her mouth on my feet.
This was awkward, but I couldn’t even dwell on that. The pain was so great, it defeated every other feeling.
"I want to know once and for all if the moon goddess has placed a curse on . That’s what they all whisper behind my back. They mock, and berate because I’m a woman who is an alpha. You would think with the progression of the world, people would be more illuminated. But no! They say I’m cursed because every man I love dies!"
My heart bled for her. I understood her tears now. It wasn’t easy to be humiliated because of situations you had no control of.
It was the sa way Ramon’s wolves mocked her. Just because their alpha hated , they also hate . It wasn’t an easy life to live, and I could relate to the alpha.
"Please stand up and tell what you need to do. Whatever it is, I’ll help you."
She paused, and slowly rose to get feet.
"Would you really help ?"
"Yes, but you have to do sothing for in return."
"Anything!" She desperately cried. "You want money? Power? Gold? Anything!"
The word freedom was at the tip of my lips. I wanted her to help be free of Ramon, but I couldn’t be that selfish. There were more important things to ask for. So I put my own selfish desires behind, and focused on what I was most curious about.
"My mother. I want to know about her. Please tell everything you know."
"I promise!" She wrapped a strong hand around mine. "Even if you can’t help at the end of the day, as long as you try, I will tell you everything you need to know about your mother, and more."
Her eyes were fierce and truthful. I believed her wholeheartedly. All I needed was to help her, and she would help fill in the gaps of the mories I didn’t have of my mother.
"But what do you want to do for you?"
She let go of my hands, and stepped aside.
"There’s soone that needs healing. To know if the moon goddess really cursed , I want to know if he can be healed. If he can’t, then it’s true what the people say."
"No. Don’t buy into propaganda from envious people just because there’s a pattern. I’ll do all in my power to save this person that obviously ans so much to you."
"I believe you will, and that’s why I sought you out. Ramon is a fool. He doesn’t know the gem he has beside him."
A rose tint ford in my face as I averted my gaze shyly. I was pleased with what she had just said.
True, he was a fool. But foolishness was also a sickness that could be cured.
