Konoha's Dimensional Chat Group Chapter 204: Uchiha Shisui

"We know you have exceptional taijutsu, Ryū-senpai. This child was secretly trying to practice taijutsu on his own, used the wrong thod, and accidentally damaged his foundation. We were hoping you might be able to advise on how to let him recover — otherwise his legs may be permanently impaired."

Kakashi using "senpai" said sothing about how he genuinely regarded Ryū. He knew what Ryū was capable of. Within Konoha, nobody could touch him — not even the Fourth Hokage approached the situation with any confidence of winning, if the fact that Minato had never once interfered with Ryū's life was any indication. Losing to Ryū would be a very realistic outco. Losing fatally to Ryū was also on the table.

Given all that, respect was the sensible default. The alternative — getting flicked into a wall — didn't appeal.

"This child is the younger cousin of a friend of mine who is no longer with us. If you're willing to help him heal, I'll pay whatever price I can manage."

Kakashi's expression was serious. He didn't appear to be performing.

Ryū didn't give an answer imdiately. Instead: "What's his na?"

"Uchiha Shisui."

"…Shisui."

He'd actually guessed correctly. The Uchiha kid standing in front of him was genuinely Shisui.

Shisui was three or four years older than Itachi, who would currently be around five. The age worked out.

His knowledge of Shisui as a character was limited to the broad strokes — a prodigy of the Uchiha clan, destined for an early death. If he recalled correctly, Danzō had been involved. Ambushed, sothing like that. Either way, young, talented, and gone too soon.

If Shisui was currently eight or nine years old, he had at most another decade before things went badly. The Uchiha Massacre was about ten years out from now, and Shisui's death was around that period.

But the more imdiate question — why co to him? Shisui was an Uchiha prodigy. Even accounting for a training accident, wasn't the Konoha hospital the obvious first stop? Or a clan elder?

Ryū looked at the boy's feet. Kakashi had said that was where the damage was.

A few seconds of observation.

His expression shifted to sothing between amusent and resigned exasperation.

"You were secretly trying to copy Guy's techniques, weren't you."

Shisui, who hadn't spoken yet, went red imdiately.

"I — I — I just wanted to try, that's all, and then I — then I…"

Young and not yet skilled at concealnt, caught by the faint mockery in Ryū's tone, he rushed to explain: "Yes. I'm sorry. I didn't an to steal techniques — it's just that watching Maito Guy-senpai train, he looked so serious, and the power was so impressive, so I thought I'd…"

"Then you tried it yourself, and almost tore your leg off. Is that about right?"

Ryū completed the sentence for him.

He couldn't help feeling a mix of disbelief and reluctant amusent. Kids these days really had no sense of self-preservation.

The Six Powers had an explicit physical constitution requirent built in precisely because attempting them below that threshold produced ugly results. What he'd taught Guy were Tempest Kick and Iron Body. Shisui had apparently watched Guy training and attempted Tempest Kick.

Soone whose body wasn't up to the baseline using Tempest Kick: getting away with just a badly damaged leg was, frankly, lucky. The less fortunate outco was the leg exiting the body entirely and becoming a separate problem to manage. Shisui had rolled well.

Ryū glanced sideways at Guy.

One finger, extended. A flick.

Guy had absolutely no ti to react. Even if he'd seen it coming, the speed differential wasn't sothing he could bridge. The finger connected with his forehead.

Thwack.

Guy, to Kakashi and Shisui's collective stunned disbelief, went airborne — shouting all the way — flew backward for several dozen tres, and ca to rest embedded in a solid wall.

Whether he could be extracted from the wall remained to be determined.

The reason for the flick: Ryū had been explicit when he'd handed over those techniques. Don't pass them on. Guy hadn't done it deliberately — he'd been training openly and a bystander had observed — but the outco was the sa.

A light lesson. Enough to reinforce the mory.

As for Shisui: dangerous techniques, do not attempt to replicate at ho.

Why did that phrase feel faintly familiar? Probably nothing.

"Don't go randomly practising dangerous things you're not ready for," Ryū said. "Your leg is still attached to your body, which is the better of the two possible outcos. Rest, eat well, give it a year or two. It'll recover. Don't stress the leg in the anti."

He paused. "Or — go find Tsunade. This kind of foundational damage is her specialty. I believe she's back in the village recently. You didn't know?"

He looked at Kakashi with mild surprise. Had Kakashi only just returned to Konoha himself, or was Tsunade's return simply not widely known yet?

"Is that right? Thank you, Ryū-senpai!"

"…Thank you, senpai."

Kakashi and Shisui said it in almost perfect unison.

Shisui didn't entirely understand why Kakashi was calling this young man "senpai," but he understood that following Kakashi's lead was correct. Guy-senpai had served as an instructive example of what not to do. One finger flick, and a shinobi who was no weaker than Kakashi-senpai — who was, by any asure, an elite ANBU jōnin — had been sent flying.

The gap was sowhere beyond comprehensible.

Ryū watched the three of them go.

He tilted his head slightly.

"Butterfly effect, really. If Tsunade doesn't treat him, Shisui needs two years of bedrest to fully recover. Two years with his talent on hold while soone like Itachi is out there developing — he'd probably co out behind. Interesting."

Then, without turning: "And you — how long are you planning to watch from over there? Jiraiya."

The figure with the distinctive white spiky hair, apparently having been present this entire ti without Ryū acknowledging him.
