Now reading: CHAPTER 253: Control from Koyuki, the Necromancing Foxkin, a Slice of life novel by Aetam.

News about my Dullahan spread rather quickly. A lot of students were curious about the rare undead. Thankfully, he seed perfectly fine answering so basic questions from curious people.

During the next week Hatsumi managed to acquire proper clothing for Kaito. While he did not have armour, he had a training outfit and a suit befitting a butler.

Just like Hatsumi, Kaito joined during classes. His magic was rather limited but he seed interested in the theory. And he did have his frostfire. He could coat his fists in it and use it as a rather effective weapon at close ranges. His defence needed so work, but ice shield was a spell he showed so promise in.

When it was ti for my next death magic class, Tim and Tom were already eagerly awaiting .

“You have to show us your new undead!” Tom said, as I entered the room.

“Uhm. Hi Tom, hi Tim.” I greeted them. “This is Kaito, a Dullahan.” I introduced them.

“Greetings.” Kaito said.

The twins still had their tier two undead cats, but I knew they had started working on joint castings. Maybe they would create a more interesting undead soon.

“Can you do sothing with your head?” Tom asked.

“Hm.” Kaito replied, then he used his hands to spin his head.

“Woah, you are not getting dizzy?” Tom asked.

“No, thankfully I am not susceptible to motion sickness.” He replied and stopped his head.

“Really? A spinning head?” I heard Leo say. He was the last to arrive, as usual. “You have the power to create tier three undead and you waste them on a circus!”

“Circus? I guess I could try juggling my head. Of course, it would not be juggling with one item. I would need to collect additional heads for that. However, it is an amusing thought.” Kaito replied.

“I have never been to a circus.” I muttered. Maybe I should visit at so point. I heard they were fun.

Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator.

“Should I look for one?” Hatsumi offered.

“No, it is fine.” I replied. I had enough to do. Although, maybe I should ask Helena…

“Are you mocking ?” Leo asked.

“We would never do such a thing.” Kaito replied, sounding completely serious.

“Ah, you have t the newest addition to our class!” Gronir said, as he entered the room. “I know undead are exciting but please take your seats.”

We all sat down and Gronir launched into a brief explanation about Dullahans. It was essentially the sa thing he had already told . Then the questions started.

Tom raised his hand.

“Tom.”

“Aren’t they weak? What if soone just grabs their head and throws it away?”

Gronir chuckled. “You might find that it is not so simple. Frostfire is no joke.”

Leo raised his hand.

“Leo.”

“How can Koyuki control this many tier three? She is only a senior mage!”

“Only?” Gronir raised an eyebrow. “It is true that she has more than one would expect from soone on her level. However, those classifications never tell the full story. Koyuki’s core is already close to that of a grand mage and she has an exceptional talent when it cos to necromancy. What are the limitations when you raise a tier three?”

“Control.” Leo answered, sounding confident.

“That is one of them. You might have noticed that Koyuki has not used the souls from her enemies. Instead she has created new tier three creatures. And she has convinced them to serve her willingly. This puts a lot less strain on the bond and makes it easier to have multiple tier three. But what is the other limitation?”

“Mana?” Tom wondered.

“Exactly!” Gronir replied. “An undead uses a part of your mana permanently. But that is a lot less than the spell needs to create a tier three! So at a certain point you will no longer be able to raise more. Creating a tier three requires substantially more mana than a tier two. That is why a necromancer will always have the bulk of their army as tier one or two.”

“But you could use external sources, like a joint casting.” Leo suggested.

Gronir nodded. “True. You can borrow the mana for the creation. However, you have to be careful. Joint castings can be taxing and you need to be able to control your undead. There is a reason why you need to be a senior mage to get a licence. It ans you understand more complex magic and are less likely to try sothing foolish.” He looked at as he spoke.

Ok, so maybe I had been a bit reckless with my experints. But sohow necromancy felt so natural to . I started petting Nyx, who was curled up on the book on my table.

“What are the most tier three any necromancer has ever controlled?” Tim asked.

“The exact number is unknown but so records claim Lord Aizo had about 100. Of course, so of them might have served willingly and were not controlled. It is also uncertain if he turned himself into an undead, or not. And keep in mind that those records might be inflated. People like to embellish their victories.” Gronir replied.

Leo snorted. “100 tier three? Ridiculous.”

It did seem like a lot. I looked at Nyx. If I had 100 of her… I would be broke because they would want so many treats. No wonder Lord Aizo had tried to conquer the continent. I giggled, then I blushed as I realised everyone was staring at . Thankfully Gronir just continued the lesson.

“That was enlightening." Kaito said, after the lesson was over and we were on our way to the next one. “Leo does not seem to have a lot of respect for the undead, despite being a necromancer.”

“I do not think he has a lot of respect for the living either.” Hatsumi added.

“True.” I agreed.

“I see, we shall have to keep an eye on him then.” Kaito replied. “Academy life is certainly not boring.”

It seed like Kaito enjoyed his new undead life and that made happy. I smiled.
