Now reading: Chapter 2 — Sarya Iska Exists from LOGGED IN AS MY PERFECT SELF, a Fantasy novel by SophiaWatkins007.

The warehouse slled of cardboard, machine oil, and the faint musk of too many human bodies cramd into the sa space for too many hours.

Sarya Iska moved along the conveyor belt like a shadow of herself—efficient, quiet, almost invisible. Her coworkers hardly noticed her presence unless sothing went wrong, and even then, it wasn’t her skill they comnted on, but her awkward posture or the slight tremor in her hands when she reached for a heavy box.

"Hey... Sarya?" a voice called, drawing her attention.

She turned slowly. It was a clerk from accounting, a tall girl with a clipboard. "Did you drop this form?"

Sarya shook her head. "No, it’s not mine."

The girl frowned and walked away, muttering under her breath. Sarya’s na had been said aloud in a public space—sothing that happened rarely. She felt a small, almost imperceptible twitch of self-consciousness. Her na wasn’t often spoken, and when it was, it carried no warmth.

That small interaction reminded her how invisible she usually was. She had learned to move through the warehouse like a ghost: see the work, do the work, and disappear again before anyone could care enough to notice.

By lunchti, the teasing and whispered jokes about others’ social lives had started again. She remained at her usual far end of the break room table, her rice and stew cooling in silence.

Her phone buzzed briefly. A notification. Sothing she never expected: an alert from the console she had left charging in her apartnt. It glowed faintly in the corner of the screen, a small blinking icon that said:

Valeris – Daily System Check Pending

Sarya blinked. Daily system check?

Her pulse quickened. Despite the exhaustion of the morning and the familiar sting of loneliness, she felt a tingle of anticipation. The ga wasn’t just a fantasy; it had rules. Consequences. Boundaries. And sohow, it knew she had logged off yesterday at precisely two hours and thirty minutes.

Her curiosity was dangerous. She could feel it curling through her chest, almost burning.

After work, she returned to her apartnt, tired but unable to resist the pull. The pigeon cooed softly as she entered. She set down her bag, grabbed the console, and slid the goggles over her eyes.

The world of Valeris opened again, and Sarya exhaled, letting the tension in her shoulders dissolve into the simulated air.

She was back. Valeris.

The first mission today was simple: patrol the outskirts of the training fields, observe enemy movent, and gain basic XP. But she noticed sothing she hadn’t seen yesterday. Small numbers flickered in her vision when she landed blows on the training dummies.

[Experience 12]

[Coin 5]

And then another number blinked faintly in red:

[Emotional Spike Detected]

Sarya frowned, curious. Why would emotion register as a stat?

The horn sounded in the distance, summoning her to a minor skirmish. A small band of goblin-like creatures skulked across the training grounds.

She moved instinctively, her martial arts training guiding every punch, every kick, every roll. She felt alive in a way that real life rarely allowed. Coins stacked, XP ticked upward. Every hit made her chest pound with adrenaline. Valeris was strong. Valeris could fight.

After clearing the skirmish, a notification appeared, floating faintly in her vision:

[Mission Complete – Coins Earned: 25 / XP: 48]

Then another ssage:

Do not exceed 3 hours daily.

Sarya glanced at her watch. One hour and forty-five minutes had passed. She smiled faintly. She could stop. She should stop. But maybe just one more run...

Before she realized it, a new prompt appeared, glowing faintly above the horizon:

New Quest Available – Escort Mission: Royal Assignnt

Her breath caught. She froze.

The words hovered in midair. Not a simulation. Not an idle task. This was different. Sothing about the font, the weight, the glow, it felt... important.

She couldn’t explain it. She didn’t want to.

Three hours passed in what felt like minutes. The sun was lowering on the virtual horizon when she finally tore the goggles off.

In her apartnt, Sarya felt the pulse of life lingering from Valeris. Sothing in her chest ached with anticipation, excitent, and an unfamiliar... desire. She had fought, succeeded, earned, and survived. And sohow, she knew the world of Valeris would keep calling her back tomorrow.

Her phone buzzed again. A simple ssage:

"How will you play tomorrow, Sarya Iska?"

No number. No sender. Just her na, spelled correctly, with an almost knowing precision.

Sarya sat down, heart racing, staring at the screen. She did not recognize this attention. But she did feel it.

And for the first ti in years, soone—or sothing—was watching.
