Chapter 276 – Best Saturday’s Origin Store Day
It was Saturday. And Cassius felt like it had been a lifetime since he’d last lived a Saturday.
It was a strange thought, but true nonetheless. His days had been so busy that they felt like they were worth more than ordinary days.
Time was passing slowly. And he didn’t know if that was a good thing.
His training today with his master had been fruitful. With no suspense, he had succeeded in gaining the First Adaptation that increased his perception far beyond what he’d expected, letting him go through the path of traps relatively easily.
The mountain climbing had been the easiest, just as he’d expected. He succeeded on his third try.
The number three seemed a lucky number for him. A good thing, he liked it.
After his success, Cassius was finally freed from the seal that had been restricting him all these past days.
Now he stood inside his room, chest bare, his window wide open, letting the fresh air drift inside, caressing his skin with a tenderness befitting a mother tending her sleeping child.
It was a beautiful day.
The sky was blue yet slightly grey, framed by the orange-white sun, while heavy, sweet-looking clouds paraded across it as if in procession.
There was something sweet in the air. Something Cassius could almost taste, if he tried hard enough.
He wondered if it was because of yesterday’s storm. An unexpected storm, to say the least. And an unusual one.
Cassius hadn’t felt at ease yesterday. His chest had been tightening for reasons unknown, the storm feeling like the prelude to events he wouldn’t fancy.
His goddess had told him it wasn’t natural. Cassius had guessed as much.
And anything related to storms made him think of one person.
Things were getting serious, it seemed.
But yesterday was yesterday, and today was a beautiful day; it was Saturday’s Origin Store.
"Fortunately, I finished my first training before Monday." Cassius said, his eyes still on the sky.
He rather disliked having to crane his neck up to look at it. And that feeling had crept into him recently, ever since Emrys was named Sky, more precisely.
He twisted his lips and shook his head. Lowering it, he clenched his fists repeatedly, sensing the howling power hidden within these muscles.
His mind was sharper now, and he could smell, sense, and see things he couldn’t before, even without trying.
His body had been truly optimized.
"I’m not far from the limit of Imbued Rank." Cassius told himself, before turning and walking toward his bed.
[The Third Rank will be a huge milestone for you. I wonder what your Soulblade will be.]
"Can’t you guess?"
[I can’t.]
"Guess we’ll see once that day es." He said, sitting at the edge of his bed, "Now it’s time to see what today’s Origin Store has for us."
As he spoke, he channeled his essence into his ring, summoning Stella, who hissed joyfully at him.
Stella was a bit bigger now, her white scales brighter and thicker. All thanks to the monster his master had generously given her to devour.
A Three-Eyed Corrupted Crow, it was called. A monster with exceptional perception and the ability to corrupt the minds of others with its voice.
Cassius was quite satisfied with it.
He smiled as Stella rested her head on his lap. She hissed at him, clearly asking him to stroke her head.
"You’re getting spoiled, aren’t you?" He chuckled, but obeyed anyway.
He refocused, and summoned the Origin Store.
DING!
[Saturday’s Origin Store opens!]
The same process unfolded, with the Store processing today’s items.
In the meantime, Cassius took stock of his possessions.
He had a Lucky Lucky Lucky Ticket, which he used immediately as the process began, and an 80% discount ticket.
His OP count stood at 56,000, thanks to his recently pleted Quest and his prior reserve.
"I can hope for something good with this." He whispered, just as the Origin Store began displaying today’s items.
[These are today’s items!]
[Page 33 of the True Tales of the Fool (Special Item): You probably know the Tales of the Fool, written by The Fool. Everyone does. It’s the number one bestselling book of all time.
But did you know that the Tales of the Fool everyone knows isn’t the real one?
The real one isn’t as glamorous or philosophical as one might think.
This is page 33 of the True Tales, written by a fool who became The Fool. (5,000 OP)]
[Ring of the Eternal Kingdom (Special Item): There was once a princess living inside an Eternal Kingdom. She was beautiful beyond words, yet struck by a curse that made her sleep all year except for three months.
Those months varied from year to year.
The Eternal King uprooted heaven and earth searching for a cure for his daughter, but failed, achingly close, and died at the hands of gods.
This Ring, however, holds all the information he gathered on the cure...and maybe more. (30,000 OP)]
[Skill Evolution Potion (Tier 2): This is a potion created by the First Alchemist, meant as a gift for a mortal so beautiful he rivaled the gods. She loved that mortal more than she should, alas.
This potion, upon ingestion, will evolve your Skill to its next stage, without needing to meet the conditions the System imposes.
This is what love can do. (40,000 OP)]
[What caught your fancy, and more importantly, what can your pocket afford?]
Cassius’s eyes went wide. He was so surprised that, without realizing it, he’d stopped stroking Stella, earning a hiss of sadness from his snake.
He didn’t even hear her. His whole attention was fixed on the three items displayed before him.
Once again, Cassius was amazed by the Lucky Lucky Lucky Ticket. It was unbelievable.
Every one of these was incredible.
"True Tales of the Fool." He whispered, dazed, "What does it mean, that the one we have is a fake?"
It hardly made sense. But the Origin Store had no reason to lie to him.
"If what we have is false, and it’s already this inspirational," he licked his lips eagerly, "then what must the true one be like?"
Without a doubt, Cassius was going to buy that one.
Next was the Ring of the Eternal Kingdom. He barked a laugh at this one, head snapping back, already guessing who the cursed sleeping princess was.
"It’s her, isn’t it?"
[Aye.]
Cassius’s smile deepened, "Praise Lady Luck!"
Ananke’s lips twitched heavily, but she said nothing on this one. It was only a matter of time, anyway. Better get used to it.
The last item, too, was one Cassius hardly expected.
He’d get another chance to upgrade one of his Skills. Considering what was ing for him, this was a potion he had to obtain.
All three items from today’s Saturday Origin Store had to be bought.
And as he checked his OP and discount ticket, Cassius chuckled with joy.
"I can buy them all!"
And buy them all, he did.
DING!!!!!
