Chapter 1462: Chapter 1462: Look Up at the Sky

Clang!

The blood-stained steel blade fell from Hagan Marsh’s hands, his face pale and ashen.

Just like mud running down into pants—whether it’s mud or not, it damn well looks like it.

Xander Cook had been standing right behind him, so there was no way anyone could have gotten close.

Unless the real assassin was found.

Otherwise, Hagan Marsh would face confinent just like Xander Cook had.

As for freedom?

Everyone present likely hoped he’d lose that, wouldn’t they?

“It wasn’t ,” Hagan Marsh gritted his teeth, forcing the words out as if squeezing them through his gums.

“The truth will co out eventually,” Ian Jorden’s face was calm, expression as flat and deep as still water.

He turned to face the other seven ruling powers and spoke, “What do you all think?”

The City Lord and the nine rulers governed Swimming City jointly, so of course, he had to solicit the other seven’s opinions.

“Detain him first, then investigate thoroughly,” Adler Haw looked at Hagan Marsh, with a faint yet cold smile. “No matter what, Xander Cook had a grudge against you and ended up dead right behind you in front of everyone. Hagan, I think it’ll be hard for you to brush this off, won’t it?”

“I didn’t do it!” Hagan Marsh erupted in rage.

But he had no choice.

If he tried to flee, he’d almost certainly be killed.

If he stayed, he could only resign himself to fate.

Caught in the vortex of power, the slightest misstep would shatter him into pieces.

“I agree with Commander Haw’s suggestion. The brutal murder of Xander Cook is even more heinous than the bombing at Bull Town. As rulers, which of us can guarantee that soday this tragedy won’t rear its head toward our own backs?”

One of the commanders finished speaking and gave a slight nod. “Hagan, if you’re innocent, we’ll ensure your na is cleared.”

Hagan Marsh let out a bitter, continuous laugh.

Clear my na?

Everyone here probably can’t wait for to die, can they?

One death ans more cake to divide up.

And the portions for the rest of them would grow even larger.

“Since there’s no dissent, we’ll detain Commander Marsh first,” Ian Jorden waved his hand, and the elite guards imdiately stepped forward to encircle him.

“Apologies!”

They shackled Hagan Marsh with custom-made handcuffs and ankle chains, escorting him down from the central high platform.

“My deepest apologies, everyone,” Ian Jorden addressed the crowd from the central platform with a feigned regretful expression after Hagan Marsh was taken away. “We originally planned to deal with and interrogate Xander Cook’s bombing of Bull Town today. Unexpectedly, a group of assassins upended everything, leading to Xander Cook’s murder. Once we uncover the full truth, we will report back to all of you.”

His face darkened as he spoke, then he vanished from the platform.

The situation had spiraled completely out of control.

What was supposed to be a public trial of Xander Cook had devolved into chaos!

The City Lord’s authority had been openly challenged!

“What a letdown!”

“Letdown? Are you kidding? Today’s spectacle was thrilling! Xander Cook being killed—that was exhilarating!”

“Who do you think is next? Could it be Hagan Marsh?”

The crowd indulging in the excitent eventually grew tired as dusk approached, dispersing reluctantly.

Upon the high platform.

Adler Haw lingered, casually talking with his subordinates, showing no hurry to leave.

“Commander Haw, just who is that mysterious guest of yours?” one of his trusted n asked once everyone else had cleared out, leaving only Adler Haw and his personal confidants.

Adler’s expression was tranquil, and his mood light.

Xander Cook was dead—one less person to split the pie with.

Next, he would see if it were possible to eliminate Hagan Marsh too.

But for now, he was waiting for soone.

“My guest, naturally shrouded in mystery. His status is no lower than the City Lord’s,” a faint flush crept across Adler Haw’s face.

He had drunk a little earlier, just enough to leave him tipsy, his vision slightly blurred.

Mostly he was simply delighted.

Initially, he had doubted the guest’s claims, but now, matters had proven the individual had real capabilities.

Xander Cook’s death—it likely was the handiwork of this guest.

After all, the letter Adler had received specified that Xander Cook’s murder was a prerequisite for their eting.

Yet Hagan Marsh’s capture had been an unexpected surprise to him.

Could this have been the guest’s way of giving him a gift?

Or perhaps, a token of sincerity for their collaboration?

“King of the North Sea, you really do know how to make a statent,” Adler Haw squinted, inhaled deeply, then leaned back in his chair, humming a tune to himself.

The person he awaited was none other than the King of the North Sea, Everton Davenport!

Earlier at noon, Adler had received a letter from the King of the North Sea.

The letter proposed an alliance to shatter the existing barriers and co-rule Swimming City.

Adler, of course, hadn’t trusted it outright.

It was just paper, after all. Without seeing the person, how could he believe it wasn’t a ruse?

The writer, as if sensing Adler’s skepticism, made a bold promise in the letter—the prerequisite for their eting would be Xander Cook’s death.

Now.

Xander Cook was dead, Hagan Marsh detained, and two of the nine factions eliminated.

Adler Haw was thrilled and decided to wait as agreed for Everton Davenport’s arrival.

After all, this was Swimming City, and he was surrounded by his elites.

There was no cause for concern.

As for Everton Davenport?

Collaboration was one thing.

Should an opportunity arise, Adler still intended to kill the King of the North Sea, presenting it as his grand achievent to secure the highest seat in Swimming City.

Of course, he had no idea that the letter was written by Julius Reed.

Nor did he realize that Everton Davenport was already here.

Not within the city, though—outside its walls.

Everton had no choice but to co.

Or rather, nothing could have prevented her from coming.

Her daughter, Baylor Davenport, was in Swimming City!

The King of the North Sea’s love for her daughter was beyond the comprehension of ordinary people.

Since returning from the West Sea, Everton had led a clandestine, rapid assault with her most elite forces, arriving undetected on the outskirts of Swimming City.

The three factions entrenched outside the city were too consud with their internal conflicts—dead, injured, and completely disregarding external threats.

Everton’s forces had easily approached the city unnoticed.

She had even obtained the exact coordinates of Swimming City’s high-command positions.

The coordinates, naturally, had co from Julius Reed, relayed under the alias Solaris Grove.

And only ten minutes ago, Julius’s delivery of a photograph depicting the City Lord and others seated upon the central platform had solidified Everton’s belief.

She had arrived in such haste, there was no ti for personal investigation.

And with her daughter trapped inside, Everton wanted nothing more than to storm in, rescue her, and exact revenge!

Hatred could extinguish rationality.

The crowd soon disappeared.

The square now quiet, filled only with those like Adler Haw, waiting—or perhaps awaiting death.

“Aren’t we leaving?” Gabriel Young turned her head, puzzled, and looked at Julius Reed.

Everyone else had gone; what was the point of staying?

“Don’t tell you’re planning to assassinate Adler Haw? He’s surrounded by powerful guards and protected by over a hundred soldiers. It’s nearly impossible to succeed.”

Adler wasn’t a fool. Of course he’d bring enough people to ensure his safety.

Though Shay Bread was dead, even if three of him were here, they wouldn’t manage to lay a hand on Adler.

“Why would I need to do the killing myself?” Julius Reed pulled out a piece of paper and a pen from his jacket.

He scribbled a few words, then folded it neatly.

“Hey, can you help deliver a letter?” He waved at a man not far off.

“What the hell do you take for, your errand boy? Who do you think—wait, where’s it going?” The man grumbled, but when he saw ten shiny Swimming City Currency coins, his attitude imdiately ward up as he jogged over.

“Deliver it to the man up there. And once you’ve handed it off, rember—run as fast and far as you can. The quicker your pace, the more I’ll reward you later.”

Julius placed the note and the coins into the man’s hand.

“Deal!”

The man took off at a brisk pace, sprinting toward the high platform.

“Stop! Take another step, and you’re dead!” the guards snapped at him, their expressions wary.

“I’m delivering a letter!” The man raised his hands, holding a folded piece of paper high. “A letter for Commander Haw!”

“Hand it over! Get lost!” A guard snatched the letter and was about to shove the man away, but he had already broken into a mad dash.

The faster he ran, the more he’d earn!

“Commander, this is for you.”

Up on the platform.

The guard handed the letter to Adler Haw.

“Hmm.” Still reeling from his drinks, Adler lazily leaned back in his chair, taking the letter and opening it leisurely.

He tilted his head to glance at the sky.

Inside the letter.

There were only four words.

“What the hell is this?” Adler Haw muttered drowsily, lifting his head.

His pupils contracted sharply!

BOOM!

A cannonball ripped through the sky, obliterating the central platform in an instant.
