Chapter 1219: Chapter 1219: Dark Descent (Part 39)

Under the dark night, a girl, vigorous and valiant, balanced herself on one leg, one hand holding the bike handle, the other removing her helt. Jiang Rushuang almost bent over from watching, “Xiao Chu is so cool.”

“Cool, my foot! Weren’t you asleep?” Ji Lin glared at Jiang Rushuang with irritation.

Jiang Rushuang shrank his head and lay down, holding Lele.

Chuzheng got into the car, Ji Lin scanned her up and down, and handed her a bottle of water, “Where did you go? Don’t tell you went to find so pretty boy behind my back?”

Chuzheng took a sip of water, “Which pretty boy could compare to you?”

Ji Lin: “…”

Always feels like she’s insulting , but I have no proof.

City Y.

The group of people Chuzheng encountered, led by Master Ba, were retreating, and the zombies suddenly lost control and attacked them together.

The cage in Master Ba’s car was empty, with no trace of the zombie.

Master Ba’s face twisted with anger, but at the mont he was too busy running for his life to investigate who let the zombie escape.

There were quite a few people in Master Ba’s group, but in the end, only a dozen managed to escape.

Gu He was lucky to be one of those few.

Once out of danger, Master Ba imdiately exploded, “Damn it, who did it! Who the hell did it!! Who the hell let the zombie go?!”

The expressions of those dozen people were frozen with the realization of survival, stiffly shaking their heads. So had a strange look as they stared at Master Ba.

The reason they listened to him so obediently was that he could control the zombies.

But he could only control one of them, the others were beyond him, so now he was practically useless.

“Master Ba…”

“Shut your damn mouth!”

Click—

Weapons were aid at Master Ba’s head, and suddenly the sound of clicking guns echoed, all pointing in different directions.

The man threatening Master Ba looked around, “Think carefully, can he still control the zombies? Do you still want to listen to him and be bossed around?”

“Damn!!” Master Ba cursed angrily, “Wasn’t I good to you? Are you betraying ?”

“Master Ba, you don’t need to remind you of the things you did before, do you? Did you ever treat us like humans? You treated us like dogs!”

Perhaps this remark reminded everyone of their past experiences.

The once invincible Master Ba who couldn’t control the zombies was just a softie to them now.

No matter how angry Master Ba was, it was no use. He could only watch them steal cars and leave. Considering their past, they didn’t kill him but broke his legs, which was pretty much a death sentence.

“That woman…”

The newly chosen leader glanced at the pale and frightened Gu He, “Take her.”

Gu He looked terrified and didn’t want to go with them, but her strength was weak, and she was eventually pushed into the car.

Before, while serving by Master Ba’s side, these people didn’t dare to be presumptuous, only daring to tease her with their eyes and words.

She seed to foresee her fate…

Three months later.

The scorching sun baked the earth, the cracked road gaping wide as a black SUV roared past, dust flying everywhere.

“Mama…”

A tender little voice sounded.

“Who’s your mom!” The girl holding the baby snapped at him fiercely.

The little baby pouted, “Ma…”

“Xiao Chu, don’t be so hard on him.” Jiang Rushuang said timidly, “He likes you.”

“Who wants his affection?” Chuzheng continued to carry the baby as one would a little wolf cub, ‘tossing’ him into Jiang Rushuang’s arms in the backseat, “As long as Ji Lin likes , that’s enough.”

Ji Lin, who was driving, flashed an embarrassed but polite smile.

Back then, he must have been out of his mind to think he liked her.

All this way, he hadn’t been pestered to death, and he felt his ntal resilience was quite strong.

“Um… don’t you think we seem to be lost?”

Jiang Rushuang raised her hand timidly.

The main road had been destroyed, so they were using a small road that wasn’t marked on the map, leaving them at a loss for direction.

Chuzheng and Ji Lin exchanged a glance, both silent.

As the day turned to dusk, the scenery around was desolate, the entire world seed covered in a layer of ash.

After driving for another half-hour, Chuzheng and the others encountered people.

Three vehicles dashed out from a side road, as if being chased by zombies from behind—

“Zo-zombies!!”

Jiang Rushuang pointed at the zombies rushing along the side road, flas flickering, obviously Special Ability zombies.

Ji Lin told Chuzheng to stay put while he went down to deal with the zombie.

The vehicles ahead must have noticed soone dealing with the zombie, as they drove on a bit then slowly backed up.

The first to get out was a scruffy uncle, muscles taut all over, watching Ji Lin warily.

The zombie lay frozen into an ice sculpture by Ji Lin’s feet, kicked lightly, it shattered into countless pieces.

Though still cautious, the uncle approached, “Thank you… where did you co from?”

Ji Lin took out a map, asking the uncle for directions.

After a brief exchange, the uncle visibly relaxed, “It takes two hours to get back on the main road, and this is a rural road full of forks, easy to get lost. We’re survivors from the town ahead; if you don’t mind, co back with us, and I’ll guide you out tomorrow.”

Ji Lin looked at the sky and decided to follow the uncle back.

Though they claid to be survivors from the town, in truth, there weren’t many of them.

They fenced off a few areas in town, building defensive structures, and lived within them.

They had gone out to search for resources.

Ji Lin and Chuzheng’s group looked clean, accompanied by a tender little child, hardly what you’d expect from apocalypse survivors.

“The conditions here are a bit basic, hope you don’t mind.”

Jiang Rushuang, ever diplomatic, sweet-looking and with a pleasant voice, easily gained their trust.

That night everyone gathered to eat, and Chuzheng silently counted them; n, won, and children, totaling fifteen.

The food wasn’t great, but it filled the stomach.

“Why don’t you go to the nearby base?” Jiang Rushuang asked the uncle.

“Ah, we’re too far from the base, and with old and weak people, how could we manage?”

It’s not that they didn’t want to go, they simply couldn’t.

If they encountered zombies on the way, it would be all over. It was better to stay here; zombies in the surrounding villages weren’t nurous, and each household had supplies. Collecting these allowed them to get by.

“Isn’t there a vaccine?”

“Vaccine? What’s that?” The uncle looked puzzled, then excitedly asked, “Has there been a breakthrough?”

Jiang Rushuang shook her head, “Um… no, it just prevents ordinary people from turning into zombies after being bitten.”

“Ah…” The uncle shook his head, “We haven’t heard of it.”

The information they received ca from passing survivors, and they knew nothing about the vaccine.
