Now reading: Chapter 1347: Seeking Immortality in the Yellow Springs (Fin from Let's Squander A Billion First!, a Sci-fi novel by Mo Ling.

A19, judging from the number, was one of the earliest batches.

Appeared early and went extinct early too.

From the first recorded one to the last extinction, there were a total of five, all within a tiline of less than ten years.

As soon as this thing appears, a fire breaks out.

It lights up wherever it goes.

An absolute danger.

Calling it a little fire kid isn’t wrong at all.

It looks like a child, fair-skinned and tender, unbearably cute, easily deceiving people.

Its secretions can evaporate into the air, turning into a flammable substance.

One case describes a legendary story where this thing burned down a bank vault. They say it’s still an urban legend even now.

Chuzheng slapped the table with a bang.

I just hate bratty kids!

But A19, K6, these were all extinct unknown creatures.

Why have they suddenly appeared again?

So frustrating.

Don’t let catch which bastard is stirring up trouble!

Chuzheng watched the park’s video playback once more, sorted what needed to be archived, updated what needed updating, and by the ti she finished, it was almost noon.

Liu Zhong hadn’t returned yet.

Chuzheng frowned slightly.

By afternoon, with no sign of Liu Zhong, Chuzheng tried contacting him but couldn’t get through.

Chuzheng called i Ji over.

"You called for ?"

i Ji walked in holding her rabbit, standing obediently in front of her.

"Where did Liu Zhong go?"

"Uh..." i Ji tilted her head in thought, the rabbit’s ears perked up, "I think he went to investigate Wan Fei’s death."

"Any leads?"

"Mhm."

"Did he say where he was going?"

i Ji shook her rabbit’s ears, "Nope."

"Get soone to find him," Chuzheng rhythmically tapped her fingertips on the table, "Find him as soon as possible."

i Ji asked curiously, "Did sothing happen?"

"..."

If I knew what happened, I wouldn’t need to look for him!

It’s rare for Liu Zhong to be uncontactable like this.

"Go quickly."

i Ji took her rabbit and left the room.

As the sky darkened, there was still no news from Liu Zhong.

Chuzheng stood akimbo, pacing restlessly in the shop.

The robot, hands clasped behind its back like an old man, clicked and clacked as it followed Chuzheng.

"Miss Chuzheng."

Soone ran over, stopping at the door, not daring to enter.

He pointed outside, "Uncle Liu is back."

Chuzheng quickly stepped out to see Liu Zhong being helped into the adjacent shop, and she imdiately followed in.

"Miss Chuzheng."

"Miss Chuzheng..."

Chuzheng signaled for everyone to leave, and the space instantly felt spacious.

Ye Yueli was treating Liu Zhong’s injuries, the scent of blood filling the air, casting a somber mood over everyone present.

Chuzheng stared at the unconscious Liu Zhong, her eyes glinting with a cold light.

"What happened?"

i Ji said, "I ran into Uncle Liu outside, he was already like this, fainted as soon as he saw ."

So, what exactly happened still had to wait for Liu Zhong to wake up.

With pale fingers, Ye Yueli swiftly cleaned the wounds, then sprayed them, and the not-so-deep wounds quickly scabbed over and fell off, leaving just a shallow scar.

Under the watchful eyes of everyone, Ye Yueli delivered the diagnosis.

"Nothing serious, just fainted from exhaustion."

-

Liu Zhong remained unconscious until the following night.

Chuzheng was still nearby when he woke up, kicking the sleeping Xie Shi beside her.

Xie Shi jerked awake, leaping up from the floor, adjusting his tilted clown hat, looking drowsily at Liu Zhong, "Uncle Liu, you’re awake."

Yawning, he went up to help Liu Zhong sit up.

"You really scared us."

"I’m fine."

Xie Shi said, "You call that fine? When I saw you, I almost thought I’d be attending your funeral."

Liu Zhong blew his beard and glared, "You brat, can’t you say sothing nice."

"We don’t fear death, what’s the big deal, I’ve even planned how my own funeral would go..."

Liu Zhong’s mouth twitched, "Are you that eager for to die?"

Xie Shi laughed, "No, no, I’d never think that."

Their banter lightened the atmosphere.

After Liu Zhong took a mont to gather himself, Chuzheng finally spoke up, "What happened?"

Liu Zhong’s expression grew serious too.

"I went to investigate Wan Fei’s death, rember?"

Before Wan Fei died, he went to see two friends, so Liu Zhong went to find them and asked what Wan Fei had said.

From one of them, he learned Wan Fei had co specifically to inquire about the funeral ho where he used to work.

Wan Fei’s friend didn’t know why he was asking about it, so Liu Zhong went to check out the funeral ho.

That’s where trouble began.

He got attacked.

Xie Shi was surprised, "Uncle Liu, and you couldn’t handle it?"

Liu Zhong, "Haven’t you heard of being outnumbered?"

He encountered highly aggressive unknown creatures at the funeral ho, more than just one.

It was dark, and he was unprepared.

Liu Zhong looked at Chuzheng and shared his suspicion, "I suspect soone is using the funeral ho to let unknown creatures inhabit it in bulk."

Xie Shi: "..."

Chuzheng: "..."

Xie Shi was so shocked his clown hat almost fell off, and it took him a while to find his voice, "Uncle Liu, you’re not joking, are you?"

Liu Zhong snorted, "Do I look like I’m joking?"

Xie Shi, "Inhabiting the dead won’t help, right?"

Funeral hos are full of the dead.

The best ti for inhabiting is just after a human dies, to ensure the freshness of the body.

If it’s already been sent to a funeral ho, it’s just a dead thing.

Inhabiting it would make them like a walking corpse, and they would rot over ti, terrifying people outside, quickly getting reported and taken to the research center.

Unless it’s a downright mad unknown creature, no creature would choose to inhabit a corpse.

But Liu Zhong’s theory was just a speculation.

He encountered an unknown creature’s attack shortly after entering the funeral ho, so he hadn’t fully grasped the situation inside.

"Wan Fei must have also gone to that funeral ho. His death certainly has to do with it." Liu Zhong was quite certain on this point.

He tracked the last cara footage of Wan Fei, which showed him heading to that funeral ho.

Liu Zhong, "Girl, if it’s indeed like I think, this matter isn’t small."

Chuzheng’s expression was unreadable, leaving people unsure what she felt.

She asked Liu Zhong for the funeral ho’s address.

Instructed Liu Zhong to take good care of his injuries, left the shop with a cold expression.

[Miss, get ready~ I’m about to teleport you~]

Chuzheng: "..."

I haven’t even finished my business!!!

[Miss, you still have ti if you go back now, otherwise you’ll just collapse here.] The King’s Account was unfazed.

Chuzheng: "..."

Grinding her teeth, Chuzheng called Xie Shi out, "Without my permission, no one is allowed to investigate on their own."

Leaving that warning behind, Chuzheng hurriedly returned to Yellow Springs Road.

"You bastard, you’re a spy, aren’t you!"

[Miss, I’m a legitimate Spendthrift System.]
