Now reading: Chapter 1879: Lost Wilderness (End) from Let's Squander A Billion First!, a Sci-fi novel by Mo Ling.

A year later.

"Miss Liu, look, the tumor in Mr. Xin’s brain has grown. This is from a year ago, and this is from now..."

The two images seem indistinguishable, but when overlaid, it becos clear that it has indeed grown.

"Can surgery be done?"

"Not for now." The doctor shook his head. "It’s too difficult to operate in that location."

The doctor’s advice was that unless absolutely necessary, it was best not to perform surgery.

Because the success rate was too low.

Chuzheng had taken Xin Zhu to other doctors, but the result was the sa; surgery was not recomnded.

No one could guarantee the success of surgery in such a situation.

Chuzheng left with a heavy heart, not noticing Xin Zhu as she ca out.

He leaned over and kissed her on the cheek. "I’m not afraid of dying, don’t be sad."

Chuzheng’s brow furrowed slightly. "You were eavesdropping again."

"...No." Xin Zhu imdiately looked up at the ceiling, his guilty voice softened. "I just happened to pass by and overheard."

"Are you scared?"

Xin Zhu shook his head. "No, not with you."

What good am I if I can’t take your place?

In the following years, Xin Zhu didn’t have major issues.

The ti frozen on him also started to flow, just like a normal person.

Later, Xin Zhu started to have headaches, not as sharp as before in that place.

But the occasional dull pain still made Xin Zhu uncomfortable, sotis keeping him awake all night.

The treatnt made him look not so good, frail and sickly.

Chuzheng propped herself up, staring at the person beside her, her fingertips tracing from his cheek to the top of his head.

Her fingers ran through his hair, but so strands ca loose.

"Hmm..."

Xin Zhu seed to be awakened, Chuzheng’s palm clenched tightly.

"Chu?" Xin Zhu called softly.

"Mm."

Upon hearing her voice, Xin Zhu moved closer to her, hugged her, and fell back into a deep sleep.

Chuzheng opened her palm and looked at the hair in her hand, lost in thought.

Otherwise... it might be better to end him first to lessen his suffering.

[...] King’s Account almost couldn’t help swearing. You thought for so long and ca up with this? Are you a devil?! That’s your Good Person Card!!

-

Ending him was impossible; she still had to carefully take care of him every day.

Chuzheng put in a lot of effort to prevent Xin Zhu from discovering he was going bald, but eventually, he found out and stayed depressed in his room for two days.

"It’s just hair. With today’s technology, I can get you implants."

Xin Zhu looked at her with a plaintive glance.

Chuzheng: "..."

Fortunately, Xin Zhu got over his depression after two days and regained his vitality.

The doctor’s child was brought to the villa, and Xin Zhu sat on the lawn, playing guitar for the doctor’s kid.

Not at a master level, but it sounded better than so.

The doctor was actually a bit afraid, worried that his child might accidentally bump into the golden person.

Ti flew by, the child had started elentary school, and Xin Zhu’s condition was worsening.

He liked to sit on the terrace and gaze at the sky.

Chuzheng asked him what he was looking at; he said he was watching the stars, hoping that after he died, he could beco a star, looking down on her.

If you’re gone, I won’t last much longer either...

"I want to visit my mother again." Xin Zhu timidly requested.

Even though Xin Zhu’s mother wasn’t in great health, she was still alive all these years.

"Sure."

Chuzheng arranged for a car to go to the nursing ho.

The elderly woman looked much more frail than before, leaving her room in a wheelchair, muttering sothing under her breath, seeming a bit out of touch.

The caregiver had to leave for a while, and Chuzheng helped Xin Zhu over.

"When is Xiao Zhu coming ho... Has Xiao Zhu co ho? Xiao Zhu..."

Being closer, Xin Zhu could hear what she was saying.

Xin Zhu raised a hand to cover his mouth, his eyes welling up.

"Mom..."

Xin Zhu glanced in that direction, anxiously asking Chuzheng to help him hide.

Sister Xin Zhu ca over. "Mom, why are you here alone?"

"Xiao Zhu, have you seen Xiao Zhu?"

"Mom, Xiao Zhu has co ho. He will see you later."

"Ho is good, ho is good..."

Sister Xin Zhu wheeled the elderly woman away, and Xin Zhu’s body couldn’t support him any longer, all his weight pressed against Chuzheng.

Chuzheng held Xin Zhu, comforting him silently.

Previously, Xin Zhu didn’t dare to see them, and now he dared even less.

They had already believed he was dead; his sudden appearance still ant he was dying...

"I want to go ho." Xin Zhu’s voice was hoarse. "Take ho."

"Okay."

-

Since that day, Xin Zhu’s condition deteriorated rapidly.

"Xin Zhu, I’m taking you back." Maybe going back there would stop his condition from worsening, just like before.

"I don’t want to." Xin Zhu refused decisively. "I don’t want to go back to that place."

"Why?"

"I don’t like it there." Anyone trapped in such a place for decades wouldn’t like it.

Even if his illness might improve there, he doesn’t want to go.

"You will die."

"Are you afraid I’ll die?"

"..." Afraid? Not really, since we’ll et again soon anyway, but... there’s still an uncomfortable feeling deep down.

Chuzheng certainly wouldn’t say this.

Xin Zhu reached out to touch Chuzheng’s cheek: "If I die, will you find soone else?"

"No."

The Good Person Card only has one, where would I find soone else?

Xin Zhu slowly smiled, his pale face exhibiting a gentle warmth: "I want to stay at ho with you, not go anywhere."

Chuzheng’s heart trembled slightly, and after a while, she placed her hand over his: "Okay."

-

"Miss, Miss..."

The servant pushed open the study door, her tone filled with panic: "Mr. Xin suddenly fainted just now."

Chuzheng rushed straight to the dical room downstairs, which was equipped with complete facilities; the huge transparent glass allowed a full view of the situation inside.

The doctor was performing ergency rescue, but the situation didn’t look good.

Chuzheng stood outside without expression, giving no hint of what she was thinking.

A misty day with snowflakes falling made the whole world seem hazy.

The doctor ca out, removed his mask: "Miss Liu... he doesn’t have much ti left."

Chuzheng blinked, nodded after a while: "I understand."

The doctor left with his team, soon leaving only Chuzheng and Xin Zhu there.

Chuzheng exhaled, entered calmly; Xin Zhu hadn’t awakened yet, lying there thin and frail.

Chuzheng sat holding his hand, waiting for him to wake up.

Outside, the snow grew heavier, already covering the ground with a thin layer of white.

"Is it snowing?"

Chuzheng withdrew her gaze from outside the window, Xin Zhu turned his head, looking at the snow falling outside; a bit of a pale smile played on his face.

"Yeah." It’s snowing.

Xin Zhu parted his lips slightly: "I want to go outside..."

"...Alright."

Chuzheng carried him up to the terrace, wrapping him in a thick blanket.

Neither spoke, Xin Zhu gazed at the falling snowflakes, his thoughts drifting to unknown places.

After a long while, Xin Zhu reached out from the blanket, catching a falling snowflake.

Touched by warmth, the snowflake lted instantly.

He withdrew his hand disappointedly, laboriously raising his head to look at the person holding him.

He wished he could stay with her longer...

But he felt so uncomfortable.

The light in front of his eyes grew increasingly blurry, and that familiar person also beca indistinct.

"Xin Zhu, don’t cry, we’ll et again."

"Then it’s a promise," Xin Zhu extended his hand: "Pinky swear."

"Childish," Chuzheng said this, but still reached out her fingers.

Xin Zhu slightly raised his head, his cold lips covering Chuzheng’s: "I like you."

The strength hooking her fingers suddenly seed to vanish, gradually loosening and dropping.

Snowflakes fell all around, obscuring that ’I like you.’

Chuzheng calmly placed Xin Zhu’s hand back into the blanket, holding him while silently sitting on the terrace.

-

Two years later.

A car stopped outside the villa, its body distinctly marked with an official emblem; the car door opened, two n stepped out simultaneously.

One of the n walked over to press the doorbell.

The servant who opened the door was an unfamiliar face: "Is Miss Liu here?"

"Miss Liu? There’s no such person here." The servant puzzled: "Are you sure you’re at the right place?"

"Isn’t it Miss Liu Chuzheng who lives here?"

The servant shook his head: "Our sir’s surna is Yu."

"Who are you?" The villa owner returned from outside, nearly thinking he’d done sothing wrong upon seeing these officials.

"Do you know Miss Liu Chuzheng?"

"Yes, she sold this house."

"Do you know where she went?"

"No, I don’t."

"...Alright, thank you."

"You’re welco."

Leaving the villa, both n didn’t look happy; the incident from those years presented so leads, but now the main suspect was missing.

"Sigh... let’s go."

The car slowly drove away from the villa.

In the villa garden, two white mice stood on their hind legs, looking toward the courtyard wall.

Another one appeared out of nowhere, pawing one of them: "Squeak squeak squeak!!"

"Xiao Qi, Xiao Liu..." Soone called them from afar.

The three white mice imdiately scurried back.

"Oh you little ancestors, don’t run off." The person sighed in relief upon seeing all the white mice returned, not one missing.

"Squeak squeak squeak!!"

"Squeak!!"

"Don’t fuss, it’ll be ready soon."
