Chapter 756: Chapter 756: The Wicked Woman Farms (12)

The village was ho to more than a hundred families.

The villagers here liked to enclose their hos with bamboo fences, most about half a person’s height, though so were as tall as a person.

Big and small, a hundred families in all, the village was not so small.

As Chuzheng passed through the village, people saw her and hurriedly shut their doors, as if she were so terrible virus.

Bandits were used to such scenes; this was the usual response when they appeared.

But…

They glanced at Chuzheng walking ahead, completely unaffected by it all.

Could their employer be an ex-bandit?

That shouldn’t be the case!

They had checked.

This person was just an ordinary villager who suddenly ca into money…

“Stealing food, I’ll let you steal food!!”

Sharp curses ca from a yard up ahead; Chuzheng looked in that direction, where the evening gloom allowed only vague glimpses of soone’s silhouette inside the yard.

This household was located at the very back of the village, with few villagers passing by unless they were headed for the mountains.

“Still hiding, you co here!”

“Not doing a good job and still dare to steal food!!”

Chuzheng approached and stood outside the half-person high bamboo fence, peering in.

A woman wielding a stick was beckoning towards a corner. Sothing was blocking the view, however, and Chuzheng couldn’t see that side clearly.

Chuzheng signaled the bandits to knock on the door.

The bandits nodded, went forward, and kicked it open, maintaining their bandit flair.

Chuzheng: “…”

The door was suddenly kicked open from inside, and the voices stopped.

Then the woman who had been cursing shouted sharply toward the entrance, “Who is it!!”

The bandit instinctively shouted, “Rob…”

Chuzheng quickly pulled the bandit aside, the word “rob” stuck in his throat.

Bandit: “…”

The woman also ca to the door, squinting in the moonlight to see the people outside.

“I should’ve known it was you, Jiang Chuzheng, what are you here for?”

Nowadays, who in the village didn’t recognize her? They all said she lived in a house with several n, and who knew what they were up to.

Yang Cuicui used to order her around like a servant, but now she didn’t dare raise her voice against her.

“Looking for soone.”

“Looking for soone?” The woman frowned, her tone turning unfriendly: “What do you an looking for soone at my place, I don’t have the person you’re looking for. If you lack n, go find them back at your place, don’t run over here, shaless!!”

The woman cursed and shooed Chuzheng away, trying to close the door.

Chuzheng put her hand on the door, her tone calm: “Whether there is or isn’t, I’ll know after searching.”

“This is my ho, what gives you the right…”

The bandit pushed the woman aside, and Chuzheng walked in.

The woman scread at the top of her lungs: “Da Niu, Da Niu’s dad, co out quick!!”

The room to the left was peeled open, and two n ca out, blocking Chuzheng’s way.

“What’s going on?”

With backup, the woman imdiately said, “This dead girl claims she’s here to search for soone in our house and barged right in.”

“Chuzheng girl, aren’t you being too rude?” Da Niu’s dad’s face fell: “We are still your elders, after all.”

The original owner did indeed have to call them uncle and aunt.

But Chuzheng felt it had nothing to do with her.

She was not Jiang Chuzheng.

Chuzheng’s tone remained calm: “I’m looking for soone.”

Da Niu’s dad: “Who?”

Chuzheng: “Qiu Ya.”

Da Niu’s dad shook his head: “We don’t know this person, and they are not here.”

“Hmm…”

Chuzheng heard a faint sound, and she looked towards where the woman had been standing before.

There, a piece of clothing was visible, along with a foot.

Da Niu’s dad, seeing Chuzheng glance in that direction, suddenly changed his expression and quickly blocked her view.

“Who is that?”

“That’s my… a distant relative, just arrived a few days ago.” Da Niu’s dad was clearly sowhat flustered.

“Is that so.”

Chuzheng moved towards that side, but Da Niu’s dad, pulling Da Niu along, tried to stop her, “Chuzheng girl, you… ”

The bandits pushed both n aside and also blocked the woman.

In the corner cowered a dark huddle, hands clutching knees, face buried in the folds, trembling violently.

Is this the Good Person Card?

[Yes, it’s your Good Person Card.]

Chuzheng: “…”

Chuzheng held back.

Good Person Card.

Mine.

Stay calm.

Chuzheng moved closer, and the person cowering in the corner seed to sense her, holding themselves even tighter.

“Don’t hit …don’t hit …”

The voice was distinctly that of an adult male, yet it was filled with grievances and terror, like a child who had done sothing wrong.

Chuzheng had a bad feeling in her heart.

“I won’t hit you.”

“Don’t hit … I won’t steal food anymore, don’t hit …” He seed not to hear what Chuzheng said, just kept repeating the sa few simple sentences.

“I said I won’t hit you.”

This ti he seed to hear her, not shaking as badly.

He carefully lifted his face from his knees.

The dim light outlined the contours of his cheeks, hazy and indistinct.

But his eyes, they were exceptionally bright.

Like a newborn baby, not yet tainted by the world.

“You…won’t hit ?” he asked cautiously.

Chuzheng silently exhaled.

Done for.

This ti the Good Person Card was a fool.

“I won’t hit you,” Chuzheng extended her hand towards him.

He looked at Chuzheng then at her hand.

The next second, his face was buried back into his knees, and he muttered resentfully, “You’re lying to .”

Chuzheng: “…”

What am I lying to you about!

You don’t even have anything worth lying for!!

After silently ranting, Chuzheng cald herself down first.

She had to lie to get him back first.

Fools are easier to deceive…

Chuzheng squatted down, her tone slightly softer, “I won’t hit you, will you co with ?”

He slowly lifted his head again, “You…really…won’t hit ?”

“Yes, I promise.”

He hesitated for a long ti, tentatively reaching out his hand, just about to touch Chuzheng’s palm when suddenly he pulled back sharply.

Chuzheng grabbed him at once.

He appeared quite startled, trying to break away from Chuzheng, his whole body shrinking back into the corner.

Chuzheng pulled him into her arms, holding him: “There, there, don’t be afraid.”

He leaned against Chuzheng’s shoulder, struggling for a while before gradually settling down.

“Let’s leave this place,” Chuzheng whispered.

“No one will hit anymore?” His voice was full of panic and unease, totally devoid of any sense of security.

“No one.”

“….”

After a long while, he nodded slightly.

Chuzheng helped him to stand up. The man was slightly taller than she was, but now leaning on her, he was sowhat bent, resembling a large canine.

Da Niu’s family was all suppressed on the ground by bandits.

Presumably already having been taught a lesson, they were now just watching Chuzheng in terror, not daring to curse or yell.

Chuzheng, supporting the man, approached, “Is he really your distant relative?”

“Yes…yes…” Da Niu’s father insisted.

“Yet you were beating him,” Chuzheng’s tone was icy: “Is this how you treat a distant relative?”

“No… it’s not like that, he’s not right in the head, we had no choice…”

“His clothes, though ragged, are made of fine materials not affordable by the ordinary family.”

Da Niu’s father began sweating profusely: “Yes…yes, that’s how he was when he arrived, fallen on hard tis… yes, fallen on hard tis, he ca to rely on us, we took him in out of kindness.”
