Chapter 765: Chapter 765: The Wicked Woman Farms (21)

Zhang Yuanwai probably never dread that his backer would fall from power so quickly, and that the newly appointed county official would ignore him, rendering all his silver useless.

Zhang Yuanwai was so angry that he fell ill and could not get up.

He had intended to take a concubine to ward off misfortune because his days were numbered; as such, after Zhang Yuanwai fell ill this ti, he was beyond cure.

Zhang Residence was thrown into chaos.

The bandits once again concluded that they could offend anyone but Chuzheng.

Because you never know how she would get back at you.

You wouldn’t even know how you died.

So they obediently continued to be bandits… No, being guardians was better.

The stronghold was full of young and old waiting for their money to survive!

Today, they had to work hard at being guardians.

With the downfall of Zhang Yuanwai and the magistrate, no one bothered Yang Cuicui.

But Yang Cuicui was still unlucky.

Jiang Liangye was beyond reasoning, spending his days in a drunken stupor and not returning ho.

Even after sothing as major as what happened to Jiang Dasheng, Jiang Liangye showed no concern.

Jiang Dasheng’s legs needed money for treatnt, and without money, Yang Cuicui refused to provide it. Jiang Dasheng spent his days lying in bed, scolded bloody by Yang Cuicui.

Jiang Yuyu was not much better off.

In contrast, Chuzheng’s place bustled with visitors daily, with tasty treats constantly being brought in.

Separated by just a wall, they could sll the delicious scents every day; the neighbor’s chef tirelessly prepared scrumptious dishes.

In the village, most people didn’t get to eat at even once a month, whereas the neighbors did every single day.

And not only that, they even kept a dog.

The dog was fed at!

Life was worse than a dog’s.

It was infuriating.

Winter arrived in the blink of an eye.

Heavy snow covered everything; the villagers rarely went outside, trying to minimize activity to ensure they would survive the winter.

“Mom, we’re out of grain…” Jiang Yuyu said, pointing at the empty grain sack, shivering from the cold.

Yang Cuicui, aner than ever, snapped, “What’s the use of telling we have no grain? Do I have any?”

Jiang Yuyu retorted unhappily after being yelled at, “Then we might as well starve to death.”

“You damn #!*%…,” cursed Yang Cuicui, “Don’t you have any ideas?”

“What can I do? All the grain has been taken. My brother stays away all day, and you still save food for him. I think you want to starve.”

Nowadays, Jiang Liangye did nothing but eat and sleep all day long.

Yang Cuicui still treated him like a treasure, which was beyond Jiang Yuyu’s understanding.

“You’re just looking for trouble, aren’t you?” snapped Yang Cuicui as she pinched Jiang Yuyu, cursing while pinching.

“What’s all this arguing about?”

Jiang Dasheng stood in the doorway, leaning on his crutch, looking at them with displeasure.

“Arguing? We can’t even put food in the pot; what do you think we’re arguing about?” Yang Cuicui started blaming Jiang Dasheng again, pinning the current situation on him.

His face grew progressively uglier.

“You’re just a good-for-nothing. Just look at you now, you still expect your old mother to take care of you, balabala…”

“Yang Cuicui!” Jiang Dasheng exploded, rebuking her sharply, “If it weren’t for you, would I have ended up like this?”

“Hah, Jiang Dasheng, are you blaming ?” Yang Cuicui put her hands on her hips, “You agreed at the ti, and now you’re blaming ?”

Jiang Yuyu, watching her parents argue, threw down whatever she was holding and stord out of the kitchen.

In the next courtyard over.

Liang Han wrapped in his cloak, was pouring food for Da Hei the dog, when he heard the quarreling from next door and clicked his tongue.

The neighbors argued every day, incessantly.

After feeding the dog, Liang Han returned to the house wrapped in his cloak.

“Miss Chuzheng.”

“Have you seen Qiu Ya?”

“He’s in the yard,” replied Liang Han, “I called him, but he ignored .”

Chuzheng went outside and sure enough, saw Qiu Ya in the courtyard.

Two bandits stood by his side, stamping their feet, probably to prevent him from leaving the yard, guarding nearby.

Seeing Chuzheng approach, they discreetly moved further away.

Chuzheng walked over, “What are you doing?”

Qiu Ya looked up, his eyes bright and sparkling, and said crisply, “Making a snowman.”

Chuzheng: “…”

Must be bored out of your mind!

What’s the point of building a snowman in the dead of winter?

What if you freeze to death?

“Aren’t you cold?” Chuzheng looked at his hands, red from the cold.

“Not cold,” Qiu Ya shook his head, reaching out to pull Chuzheng, gently swaying: “Shall we build a snowman together?”

His hand felt like a block of ice.

As he pulled her along, the chill seeped right into the marrow of her bones.

“No.” Chuzheng pulled him up, wrapping the cloak tighter around him: “Let’s go back inside.”

The displeasure was written all over Qiu Ya’s face: “I won’t.”

“…”

Have I been too nice to him, leading him to dare to refuse now?

This little thing is getting too bold!

“Not obeying?”

The word left a deep impression on Qiu Ya; his lips pursed in grievance, and his eyes suddenly misted over. He hung his head low, whispering: “I’ll obey, I’ll obey.”

“Go inside.”

Qiu Ya didn’t dare to object again.

Once back inside, Chuzheng first made him warm up by the fire, then went outside to order Liang Han to build a snowman in the yard.

Liang Han: “…”

What’s a bandit doing building a snowman!!!

A quarter of an hour later.

“Brother Liang, how do you build a snowman?”

“How would I know!”

Liang Han stood with hands on his hips, looking at the snow utterly clueless.

Robbing was easier than building a snowman.

“Go, find so kids in the village to co over.” Liang Han suddenly had an idea.

The bandits’ eyes lit up one by one.

The crowd scattered in all directions, heading to the village to snatch a few kids.

The children, terrified and trembling, had been admonished by the adults to stay far away from this place; little did they expect to end up being dragged here… It was too frightening.

“Wow…”

“What are you crying for!”

The bandits, fearing they might disturb Chuzheng, threatened fiercely.

But it was of no use; the children’s cries only grew louder.

The bandits were a bit overwheld.

“Don’t be afraid, just help us out with one thing, and all these things will be yours.” Liang Han, holding roast chicken and duck, tempted the children.

Lured by the aroma of the roasted poultry, the cries ceased; the children gazed at them with tearful eyes.

Liang Han heaved a sigh.

“Build a snowman in the yard, and all this can be yours.”

“…Really?”

“Of course, why would I lie to you?”

Liang Han flashed a grin.

But with Liang Han’s fierce and threatening look, his smile seed more terrifying, causing the children to retreat in fear.

Liang Han coughed: “Get to work.”

The village kids didn’t have many toys.

On snowy days, the only toy was the snowman.

The children worked together and quickly built the snowman.

A few bandits squatted nearby watching, eager to learn how to build a snowman, in case Miss Chuzheng would want them to do it again tomorrow.

This thing seed quite simple.

Just roll a few balls of snow together and that’s it!

Liang Han distributed the roast chicken and duck to the children: “Alright, you can go now.”

The children backed away, still a hint of fear in their eyes. Seeing Liang Han and the bandits observing the snowman, the children exchanged glances and then ran for their lives.

Only after they had run far from the courtyard did they stop.

Each one of them had received an entire roast chicken or duck, an experience more surreal than a dream.

After bringing the food ho, even the adults found it unbelievable, but the tangible items before them couldn’t be denied.
