Jax was rushing toward the academy. He had given a hasty farewell back at Sianna’s duchy. On the single ntion of him being late for his class, Sianna prepared her own personal carriage for him to leave.
Jax really liked the ride. It was carried by a Pegasi at the center while four abyssal hounds dragged from the sides. The thing was insanely fast. He didn’t know that just ntioning needing a carriage would get one handed over to him without a word of protest.
But that ride surely made the journey quicker than it had any right to be.
Back at the academy gates, no guard dared to stop him. They knew him very well by now over the past month. The man who bullied noble kids, humiliated kings, and treated the academy like his personal playground wasn’t soone you asked for identification papers.
Jax ignored everything. Dashed through the halls. And reached Class 1-A that he had been assigned to. When he stepped inside, a ruckus was in full swing. Multiple fights happening simultaneously. Heated discussions in corners. Groups already ford. Targets already decided by the bullies. Weaklings being cornered and shoved around.
Jax gave no attention to bullying. It was for their own good. The change it would bring to them would either break them or forge them into sothing better.
So he just walked to his podium. And as he moved through the class, stares followed him from student to student until the last one, a boy who was beating a poor kid with spectacles, finally turned to look at who had just walked in.
One bang of his palm on the desk was all it took. The class went dead silent.
Jax said. "Everyone settle in. Fast. We don’t have much ti left and I won’t be repeating myself."
Every student found their seat in under three seconds.
Jax grabbed the attendance register from the podium and gave absolutely no look of apology for being late. He scanned the nas. A few of them had a star marked in front of them along with a ssage left at the bottom of the page.
"Professor, please don’t make enemies of these students."
He recognized the handwriting. Roxana’s.
She had been promoted, leaving no assistant behind to take over his class in his absence. Which really hurt him today because he knew there would be a pile of complaints about the fights and bullying that had taken place while no one was watching. He sighed. He was used to Lysandra’s scolding by now.
He started reading what Roxana had noted beside the starred nas. Veldora’s top assassin group’s daughter. The Archmage’s granddaughter. Remnant Hall guildmaster’s daughter. Professor Kessiri Talli’nah’s sister. One of the academy’s benefactor’s son. And the titles didn’t end. Baron. Sage. Spyhouse heir. Underworld king’s nephew. This and that and more until Jax banged the attendance book on the podium.
He thought. ’Fuck their titles. It’s not like I care. But seeing this many golden spoons in one room, I can bet this class is going to be worse than the last one.’
He cald himself and read the very first na. "Athanasia L. Valte—"
Before he could finish, the bell rang. Marking the end of his lecture.
Jax looked at the clock. It was 11 AM. His entire hour of lecture had been trimd down to less than three minutes.
But he showed no sign of a mistake on his face. Just spoke in a flat tone. "I will mark today’s attendance in tomorrow’s class. So be present. And of course on ti. I am a bit harsh on latecors."
He started to leave when a voice shouted from the seats. "How can you just walk out like that?!"
Jax turned. Spotted a boy seated beside a girl he recognized from the day before yesterday. Sianna’s daughter. Whose na he had already forgotten.
The boy continued. "You show up late, say three words, and then have the audacity to threaten us about punctuality? Do you have any idea who is sitting in this room right now?"
He stood up from his seat.
"Do you know who my father is? Or do you have any idea what many of our families do? If just one of us complains about your late arrival today, which led to many political situations in the future because of the factions forming here, you will not only lose your job but—"
Jax threw a pen at him.
The boy dodged just in ti. His head snapped to follow the pen’s path as it struck the wall behind him, ink splashing across the stone in a dark stain.
He turned back in anger toward Jax. But when he turned, Jax was already inches from his face. Standing right in front of his desk without the boy hearing a single footstep.
Jax said. "But what?"
The boy’s mouth froze.
"Listen, whoever you are. You are free to complain to whoever you want. I don’t give a fuck. But hear it for the last ti because I won’t be repeating myself. As long as I step into this class, you are in my domain. And in my domain, the leaf itself asks permission to fall."
His eyes didn’t blink.
"I would forgive you this ti as I accept it was my fault. But next ti, I won’t show this rcy of you speaking directly in front of in that manner. And if you don’t believe it, ask your seniors."
Jax turned. His gaze briefly caught Sianna’s daughter who was glaring at him with eyes that were cursing his existence.
He left the class with his final words. "I’ll be here tomorrow at nine sharp. And I suggest you all are too."
Jax walked to his next lecture which was scheduled from 11 to 1. And as he entered, he was happy to see pin-drop silence at his entrance. Many students were looking at him with either respect, fear, or even loving eyes.
His eyes found Astrid who had a smile seeing him walk in. But then she huffed and turned her face away in an instant. Other students who had been humbled by him over the past weeks sat straight in their seats, well aware of his short temper and his insane mind.
He greeted the class. "Seems like so of you failed to pass to the second year. But still, I didn’t expect this many filled seats knowing the weaklings sitting in this class. The academy is surely getting lenient on you guys. Anyways, it’s not my problem. So let’s just start the class."
Then his eyes fell on Lilith. Who was seated beside a boy.
Jax said. "Hey, you with the smashed nose. Get up and exchange your seat with Seraphina. And rember, if I ever see you seated next to Student Lilith again, I will crush that already smashed nose of yours."
The boy stood in fear and relocated beside Draven while Seraphina sat down beside Lilith with a giggle.
Jax continued his lecture for two hours. And when it was over and he was heading to Nyara’s place for lunch, the girls surrounded him before he could make it ten steps.
Lilith, Seraphina, and Elira were discussing things with him. They looked worried. But not about the past. About tomorrow.
Jax said in a high tone with confusion. "What do you an I have to babysit students again? And what do you an by rank evaluation test?"
Seraphina explained. "It’s a formality exam for the first-year students. It places them into ranks for their year. The notice was circulated and it has your na listed as the evaluator for one of the groups."
She added. "Which could be quite problematic."
Jax said. "Problematic? ouch....!"
As the word left his mouth, sothing pricked his ass. He looked down. A small purple needle was falling to the ground. He recognized the magic instantly.
He scanned the surroundings and found Astrid. Hiding behind a pillar. With deadly eyes locked onto him.
And behind those eyes was jealousy. Of the girls currently standing around him. And the new ones who would soon be joining the circle.
