"Plop!"
A very faint sound of blood dripping echoed at the bottom of the Nether River.
Between Duke Zhen Yue’s brows, a sar of grim red spread out—
"Is this... ntal Hypnosis?"
ng Xiao’s pupils narrowed into a line, bursting with dazzling golden light. A strong premonition of impending doom surged within him, yet he had no ti to react. The blood pearl that struck his brow evaporated rapidly into a mist, seemingly dissipating but already seeping into his skin and coursing along his bloodstream, directly targeting the location of his Spirit Sea.
Yes.
This was Gu Shen’s "last resort."
He certainly didn’t expect the Devil to help him win this fight; the guy in the Ruler was ultimately just a "spectator." The few pointers given before proved useful, but ultimately, it was all to facilitate reaching a deal.
He was well aware.
This battle had to be won on his own.
And for those Transcendents trying to close in on him, the best counterasure was Chi Huo.
Hypnosis!
["Are you crazy?"]
The Devil stood up from the Throne in a panic.
He knew very well what Gu Shen planned to do next.
Chi Huo crashing into the Spirit Sea could only lead to one thing... and that was the ntal summoning; Gu Shen wanted to pull ng Xiao into his own Spiritual Domain, which was the Pure Land.
Dragging a Blessed Son from Light City into the Netherworld King’s Pure Land — what would happen?
This was a crazy move that even the Devil dared not imagine.
But Gu Shen did it anyway.
In response to the Devil’s questioning.
Gu Shen remained calm.
At the bottom of the Nether River, there was no light...
By doing this, he was firm in his determination to kill; this Nether River isolated all Divine Thought, and no matter what happened, it wouldn’t spread.
So after today, either he walks out alive, or ng Xiao does.
There was no second possibility.
"Enter the dream for !"
He uttered in a low voice, manipulating Chi Huo to fiercely crash into ng Xiao’s Spirit Sea.
ng Xiao resisted with all his might; the blazing light in his pupils almost beca tangible, but the invasion of Chi Huo was too domineering and unstoppable... countless wisps of fla burned within the Spirit Sea.
Due to the blessing of the Light, ng Xiao had always acted recklessly, no matter the trouble. With just a wisp of spirit, he could send ssages to the Light God’s Seat.
But at this mont.
At the bottom of the Nether River, the light shattered.
The will of the gods would not grace this dead silent place.
Hence...
His once solid Spirit Sea slowly began to collapse from within under Chi Huo’s invasion; the hypnosis took effect, and the golden light in ng Xiao’s eyes dimd rapidly.
He felt his surroundings start to change at an incredible pace.
Amidst the waters of the Nether River, countless leaves appeared out of nowhere, sweeping him up.
A dark tide surged, unstoppable.
The next mont.
He found himself in an expansive, magnificent grassland.
In the distance was the towering "Suspended Wood," ng Xiao looked at the towering tree silhouettes, montarily losing focus. He had once read about it in forbidden ancient books of Light City; rumors said it was a mother tree that could nurture the whole world’s growth... an unverifiable legendary object like the kindling.
Because he was too shocked when reading, ng Xiao had always rembered the information about the "Suspended Wood" in his mind.
Now that he ca to his senses, he found it even more unbelievable.
What shocked him more... was the tall throne ford by countless storm-driven leaves before him.
Ghostly flas flickered around it.
Sitting on the throne was none other than Gu Shen.
"Dreamscape... this is the dreamscape! I have entered the dream!"
ng Xiao bit his tongue hard. He knew that only upon reaching the fourth stage could a Transcendent cultivate a domain of their own.
Spiritual Transcendents included.
But Gu Shen was only at the Deep Sea Seventh Level... how could he possess such a powerful and complete "Spiritual Domain" that almost crushed his understanding? This place could no longer be called just a "domain."
This was simply a "Divine Domain."
No, even gods may not be able to move the Suspended Wood into their Divine Domain; no one had ever seen that thing.
Wait!
ng Xiao quickly ca to his senses, considering another possibility—
Or maybe all of this was an illusion... he was blinded, obstructed?!
...
...
"Hurry up, get to work, hustling."
In the pit, Tie Wu was directing a Ghost Soul to swing a hoe.
Not long ago, a soul body, unconscious, was sent into the Pure Land; all of this, of course, was permitted by Gu Shen. However, Gu Shen left without a word of explanation, and hurriedly departed... initially, Tie Wu neither approached nor said much, assuming the Lord Divine had business to attend to and would eventually return to the Pure Land to arrange this Ghost Soul.
Yet unexpectedly.
Gu Shen left and never returned.
So Tie Wu slowly approached the Ghost Soul, only to find sothing amiss... this guy seed to lack much wisdom, the Pure Land World was taking shape, with wind and rain every day, yet this soul didn’t move, nor did it know to dodge, seemingly indifferent to the spiritual cold, coldness, and dampness.
Yes.
This Ghost Soul was Hong Zhong.
After Gu Shen reached a vow with the "Sanctuary of the Goddess of Destiny," Hong Zhong attained another level of "eternal life" in the Pure Land World... every mont, the Pure Land was burning primordial matter to provide him with life, his physical body decayed under the corrosion of Golden Ear Flower Poison, reduced to dust by Phoenix Fire.
But his spirit, under the shroud of the Suspended Wood, persisted.
But... he seed to be rely maintaining the bare minimum of "being alive."
Tie Wu tried to engage in small talk but received no response, which vaguely confird his rough assessnt of this guy’s condition.
Unable to speak, no spiritual wisdom.
In the words of the outside world, he was probably in a vegetative state.
It was quite a coincidence.
In this place called Pure Land, during the barren and desolate year of great reclamation, countless seeds were sown across the vast mountains and fields.
All of these were plants.
The days of opening up the wilderness with Lord Divine, although joyful, inevitably grew lonely over ti... Now, he not only had the company of plants but also gained a person in a vegetative state.
Tie Wu felt a mix of emotions, occasionally wondering if this was a "companion" sent to him by Lord Divine.
At first, he feared the arrival of people from the Pure Land World because his work was too simple, and if soone ca, it might take away his "chief laborer" position.
But a year later, the current Tie Wu no longer had such a sense of crisis.
He was convinced that God Gu was different from the God of Wine; he wasn’t soone who "forgets past kindness."
After all, he was the first to follow Lord Divine.
Presumably, even if the Pure Land sent more people, he wouldn’t be replaced or eliminated.
When "Hong Zhong" arrived, Tie Wu’s daily life beca much more relaxed and pleasant. He found that besides being unable to speak, this guy was quite alright. As long as he received orders, he would comply... When Tie Wu occasionally got lazy, tasks like digging holes and watering were handled by Hong Zhong. Despite being sowhat slow-witted, he still retained certain human characteristics.
Tie Wu would crack jokes, and Hong Zhong would chuckle.
Tie Wu tilled the soil, and Hong Zhong would smile.
When Tie Wu asked Hong Zhong to till the soil, Hong Zhong also...
The only trait this guy seed to retain was "silly laughter."
But today, everything was different. The two of them, diligently working in a pit, sensed the flash of light exploding above the Pure Land... it was the "Light Blessing" entering this place with ng Xiao, countless dazzling, scorching rays of light bursting above the do of clouds.
Tie Wu’s expression was heavy.
As an Angel Envoy of Gu Shen, he had a very strong feeling about certain peculiar traits...
The light exploding at this mont in the do was not the sa as the light ignited by Lord Divine.
Too dazzling.
Too scorching.
To the point where it felt like his very soul was about to burn.
This was a "light trait" that made him extrely uncomfortable...
He noticed that Hong Zhong, who had always worn a silly smile, had now restrained his expression, looking at the streaming light of the do with a serious face, and there was actual killing intent in his eyes.
Although only a Ghost Soul.
But Tie Wu felt as if there was hot blood flowing, boiling in his chest.
At this mont, the Pure Land was encountering an "unclean" enemy.
...
...
Gu Shen hadn’t returned to the Pure Land for a long ti.
He pulled ng Xiao into a dream and discovered that this place had undergone trendous changes.
Tie Wu was gazing at him across the Heavenly Curtain.
Hong Zhong was the sa...
The only two beings in his Pure Land sent out their spirits, asking if he needed help.
In this mont, he suddenly understood why the previous Netherworld King had spent so much effort, enduring endless hardship, to lay down a grand sche like the Duolu River and the labyrinth.
As long as one could create a "Pure Land" and extract the souls of the deceased.
The Netherworld King could possess his own undead army in this Spiritual Domain... with just a single thought, this undead army would march to the battlefield and vanquish enemies for its master.
The instinctive reaction that Tie Wu and Hong Zhong exhibited the mont they sensed the "Light Blessing" was the best proof.
Gu Shen vaguely felt that as long as he nodded.
Tie Wu and Hong Zhong would expend their souls and spirits to attempt to kill ng Xiao.
But he didn’t do so.
"Do what you’re supposed to do."
A thread of Divine Thought was conveyed by Gu Shen into the minds of Tie Wu and Hong Zhong, and simultaneously, he flicked out a thread of rule, completely severing the Spiritual Sense between the Pure Land Sky and the earth.
After doing this.
Gu Shen sat upright on the throne, calmly gazing at ng Xiao, and softly asked.
"You’ve always been curious... about my relationship with the Netherworld King?"
ng Xiao’s expression was as ugly as ever.
In this illusionary dream, countless blades of grass cut across the Skytop, leaving cold and crimson bloodstains.
On the other side, in the real world, at the bottom of the Nether River.
ng Xiao had already entered the dream.
Due to the significant difference in realm, although this forced hypnosis succeeded, it would only last for a few seconds at most.
However, it was already enough.
Gu Shen didn’t need more ti.
As long as the hypnosis succeeded, even for a mont, it was enough to change the battle!
At the mont he pulled ng Xiao into the Pure Land, he multitasked, alternately switching hands to wield the Dragon Scale Bow.
A naless iron arrow was nocked on the bowstring.
The Skytop of the Pure Land.
"Though the answer may not matter."
Gu Shen slowly leaned forward and softly asked, "But now, you can guess, what exactly is my relationship with the Netherworld King?"
At the bottom of the Nether River.
Gu Shen released his grip, the string snapped, the arrow loosed.
This arrow shot from the Nether River, pierced through void and reality, tore asunder dream and darkness, pierced through the Skytop of the Pure Land, and shattered the overflowing clouds in the sky.
