Arthur floated high above the forest canopy, his presence completely concealed as he observed the scene unfolding below. The morning sun filtered through the thick layers of leaves, casting beams of light across the open clearing where a group had gathered.
From this height, the individuals appeared small, but to Arthur’s perception, every movent, every twitch of their muscle, and every whispered word from them was as clear as if he stood beside them.
Below, a group of knights clad in reinforced armor stood in a loose formation, their posture was disciplined yet relaxed as they conversed quietly among themselves. There were also a few mages in long robes, their voices carried a tone of instruction as they explained sothing to a group of kids. But Arthur’s focus was not on the knights and mages.
It was on the nine youths standing with them, the otherworlders. Arthur had been following them from the mont he sensed they left the city.
“They’re younger than I expected…” He murmured to himself, his gaze narrowing slightly as he studied them more carefully. Despite their outward appearance, there was sothing distinctly different about them. Their energy signatures didn’t align with the natural flow of mana in the people of this world. It was as if sothing had been added onto them, sothing foreign, yet seamlessly integrated.
He then decided to eavesdrop on what they were talking about.
“…this is not a drill,” one of the knights said, his tone was clipped as he addressed the group. “You’ve trained long enough. Today, you will face real demons in a real battlefield. You will fight and survive, we will intervene only if necessary so take this seriously.”
One of the youths shifted slightly nervously, his grip tightening on the weapon in his hand. Another exhaled slowly, steadying herself.
Arthur tilted his head slightly, his expression was thoughtful. He understood one thing from their words, the Church wasn’t throwing them blindly into chaos. They were guiding their growth, but still ensuring they were under enough pressure.
It was expected and he also sensed they were quite strong. 'It looks like the church has burned quite a bit of resources behind them.' He thought as he observed them from above.
Even without direct combat experience, their baseline strength was already impressive. Most of them were comparable to high-tier mages or Peak rank martial artists of this world. That level of growth in such a short ti was not sothing natural.
A few monts later, the group began to move deeper inside the forest.
Arthur followed them from above, flying silently through the sky as the knights led the otherworlders along a narrow forest path. The deeper they went, the heavier the atmosphere beca. The air carried a faint trace of sothing unpleasant… miasma.
After so ti, a few knights broke off from the group, disappearing into the forest. The others waited in silence and no one spoke unnecessarily. Even the otherworlders seed to understand the gravity of the situation now.
Nearly half an hour later, the scouts returned.
“Confird,” one of them said quietly. “We sensed a few demon presence ahead. It's a small camp, they are likely a group of scouts.”
The group moved forward again and after walking for more than an hour they arrived near what looked like a camp with a few tents pitched.
Arthur, who was observing everything from above, spread his awareness sweeping across the area ahead of them. And soon enough, he got the layout of the camp.
Dark miasma lingering in the air, and grotesque figures moving lazily between tents. The demons were not particularly strong individually, but their numbers made them dangerous.
The group approached cautiously, staying hidden behind the dense foliage. Everything was going smoothly…
Until the mont when a sudden shout erupted from within the camp.
“INTRUDERS!”
Arthur narrowed his eyes slightly. “…They noticed.”
Below, one of the knights cursed under his breath. “They must have a sensor with them. There's no point hiding now… attack!”
The mont the order was given, everything exploded into motion. The knights and mages spread outward, forming a periter, while the nine otherworlders charged forward as a unit.
Arthur crossed his legs in a sitting position while in the air, his interest piqued. ‘Let’s see what they can do…’
…
The first to move was Marcus. He stepped forward, raising his hand as white lightning crackled violently around his body. The air itself seed to tremble as arcs of holy energy gathered above him.
“Move aside!” he shouted.
The next mont…
BOOM!
A barrage of holy lightning descended upon the charging demons, striking them with terrifying power. The mont the lightning made contact, the demons let out agonized screams. Their bodies convulsed as the holy attribute tore through them, burning their very existence.
“Holy affinity… no wonder,” Arthur muttered, watching closely.
But Marcus wasn’t alone. To his left, another youth stepped forward, his eyes glowing faintly as an invisible force spread outward.
“Hold them!”
The charging demons suddenly staggered mid-step, their movents slowing unnaturally. So even stopped entirely, their eyes losing focus.
“Mind control…” Arthur observed and nodded to himself. “Limited… but it's effective in group battle.”
Before the demons could recover, another youth stepped in.
A girl raised her hand, and the ground beneath the demons suddenly collapsed inward as gravity spiked in that area.
CRACK!
Several demons were slamd into the earth, their bodies crushed under the sudden increase in force.
“Gravity manipulation…” Arthur’s interest deepened.
One of the otherworlders let out a roar as his body shifted, and his muscles started bulging, his skin started taking on a darker, almost armored texture. His form twisted into sothing inhuman as he charged straight into the frontlines, tearing through demons with raw physical strength.
“Transmutation… he is able to enhance himself with monster traits,” Arthur analyzed calmly.
Beside him, another moved like a shadow. A thin red thread extended from his fingertips, slicing through a demon’s arm before twisting sharply and severing its head, it was Blood manipulation at work.
The battlefield beca chaotic as many powerful abilities were casually thrown around.
A swordsman stepped forward, his blade moving with such precision that it seed the strikes were almost inevitable. Every strike landed perfectly, cutting through demons as if guided by sothing beyond just skill.
“What’s with this sword mastery…” Arthur’s eyes narrowed slightly. “That’s not just talent… this level of perfection cannot be attained even in years.” He then rembered Adam using two very similar skills while fighting the demons in the village and beca suspicious. Although Adam's attacks were not as powerful as the ones he was observing now, the skills were similar if not the sa. He decided he needed to investigate it further and focused on the battle below.
anwhile, another youth stood behind the frontlines, his hands started glowing softly.
“Stay close!” he called out.
A wounded youth staggered back, only for a warm light to envelop him. And his injuries began to close almost instantly. The boy possessed an extrely strong healing ability.
Then sothing unusual happened. One of the youths stepped forward as a demon lunged at him, and passed right through him.
Arthur’s eyes flickered. The youth reappeared behind the demon, driving a blade straight through its back. Arthur was sure it was an ability that let the boy phase through objects, and if used correctly it could beco a huge advantage in a fight.
Another raised his hand, and the very air around the demons began to vibrate violently.
The demons shrieked as their bodies destabilized, their forms breaking apart under the intense oscillation.
“Vibration manipulation…” Arthur watched everything in silence, and he was already coming up with ways to counter these abilities.
The coordination between the otherworlders wasn’t perfect. There were monts of hesitation, minor inefficiencies, small gaps in teamwork. But considering their lack of real battlefield experience…
“They’re performing well.” Arthur nodded to himself.
Below, the battle intensified. The demons, though initially overwheld, began adapting. A larger demon roared as it broke through the frontline, swinging a massive weapon toward one of the otherworlders.
“Watch out!” One of the otherworlder shouted in panic.
The attack ca down…
But before it could connect, the gravity user reacted instantly, increasing the weight around the demon, and slowing its strike just enough for Marcus to seize the opening.
A concentrated bolt of holy lightning pierced straight through the demon’s chest.
BOOM!
The creature collapsed and the battlefield gradually shifted in their favor.
One by one, the demons fell. The knights and mages remained on the sidelines, intervening only when absolutely necessary, allowing the otherworlders to take the lead.
Arthur observed everything, his gaze was thoughtful. These abilities… Each one complented the others. The gods hadn’t simply given them unchecked powers, ‘It looks like they are not doing the sa mistake they did with Steve.’
He was intrigued as to how the gods have bestowed them these powers. He could also give soone various powers but it was through science, he was still not aware how to bestow powers to others through ta physical ans.
“This… is sothing else entirely.”
Was it divine energy?
A conceptual binding?
For the first ti in a while, genuine curiosity surfaced in his mind. “This is worth studying.”
Below, the battle reached its conclusion.
The last demon let out a final, distorted scream before collapsing, its body dissolving into ash due to the holy lightning that scattered into the air.
The otherworlders stood there, breathing heavily, their bodies tense as the adrenaline slowly faded.
One of them laughed weakly. “We… actually did it…”
Another dropped to the ground, exhaling sharply. “That was… not like training…”
The knights finally stepped forward. “Well done,” one of them said. “You survived, that’s the first step.”
Arthur watched for a mont longer, his gaze sweeping across the group one final ti.
Then he straightened, he had seen what he ca for. He found a new direction for his own research.
Without another glance, his figure vanished from the sky. Leaving behind a battlefield that marked the beginning of sothing much larger for this world.
