Renee’s eyes trembled intensely, agitated by the stimulus, her lips quivered, and she emotionally rebutted in a low voice, "No, I’m different! I just met a bad guy, how is it my fault?"
That man deceived her feelings, pursued her claiming he wanted only her for life, but ended up being promiscuous and violent outside.
She was the one hurt.

Adam hadn’t actually uncovered much about Renee’s time abroad; the Crown Prince had sealed off all information, unless the person involved was kidnapped and interrogated, only then might they know why the marriage arrangement was annulled back then.
He said this purely based on his understanding of Renee’s character.
He’s seen many women like Renee who are unsatisfied with the ordinary, ambitious, and wish to elevate themselves through men toward a different life path.
They would never voluntarily give up climbing high.
If they separated, it’s surely the other party wanting to break up.
Even so, with Renee’s nature, she wouldn’t let go easily. She wasted so many years of youth only to end things peacefully with that small country’s Crown Prince. There must be something behind it.

"I—" Renee was struck in a sore spot.

But these words were like fish bones stuck in her throat, she couldn’t utter a single word.

"Didn’t you say he’s a bad guy? Why wait so long to break up?" Adam aggressively pressed her.
Renee’s face changed drastically.
Finally, he calmly spoke out the answer Renee didn’t want to admit, "Because you don’t care, you only care about yourself. You care about what you can get from the other person. You can disregard everything else! So what’s the difference between you and those you claim to look down upon? In my eyes, there’s no difference. If you have to say there’s a difference. At least they state clearly what they want, while you are different, you still need a flimsy cover-up for your desires."
Every word pierced Renee’s heart like a sharp blade, she felt she could not stay a second longer, fearing suffocation if she did!
"I didn’t, I’m not!" She bit her lip in denial, afraid Adam might bluntly state even more merciless facts. Clutching her bag, she rushed out of the office without a glance back.
The secretary originally about to bring coffee collided head-on with her, spilling the coffee everywhere, calling after her in confusion, "President Anderson?"
Benjamin Sinclair was outside, watching Renee leave in tears, his expression changed, and he rushed into Adam’s office angrily, slamming the table, "What did you do! Why did Renee run out!"
