A hint of compassion swelled in Bobby’s big eyes, but he was torn, muttering softly, “They’re bugs, not humans.”
Enna Clark patiently guided him and added a bargaining chip, “But what if the one you catch is their mother? If their mother is taken away and she dies, those little fireflies will be so sad…”
“I won’t catch any!” Bobby cried out imdiately.
“Don’t you like them?” Enna wasn’t just talking about fireflies but was also shaping his values, “Darling, we’re going to like many things and many people in our lives. We’re allowed to like, but we can’t think only about what we like, disregarding other people’s wishes, not considering others. Taking for oneself just because one likes sothing… that’s what bad people do, ok?”
Tobias seed to understand, “But I would be nice to them.”
“That’s what you think is good, like the fireflies, you may put them in the most beautiful bottle, but they would still die.
