Seeing her return, Xi Zirong stood up, smiled, and said, "The steps you used for the last three major problems are all correct. You won’t lose any points."

His voice carried a hint of praise.

Even though he was just talking about schoolwork and hadn’t made any moves, Xu Su felt inexplicably embarrassed.

It was mainly because Xi Zirong’s smile was just too dazzling. What was that word again?

’Doting...’

With so many classmates watching, Xu Su fought back her discomfort. She took the scratch paper from Xi Zirong’s hand and gave him a glare. "The next test is about to start. Go back to your seat, Xi Zirong. I already knew my answers were correct."

Xi Zirong was very obedient. He ekly returned to his seat.

But after every following test, he would still co over to go through the answers with Xu Su, trying to calculate her score for her as early as possible.

The two straight days of exams quickly ca to an end.

After the final exams were over, the first-year students didn’t start their sumr break imdiately. Instead, classes continued as usual.

They had to wait a full week until the second-years’ finals were finished. Only then were the report cards for both grades released at the sa ti.

Xu Su waited for a whole week before the final exam results were finally posted.

Less than half an hour after the ranking list was posted, students sward over upon hearing the news. Xu Su, Huang Feng, and Qian Jia ran to check the list too.

She spotted her na at a glance. It was right below Xi Zirong’s. This was the first ti Xu Su had placed second in the entire grade.

Second in the grade, a scholarship of three thousand yuan.

Xu Su was so excited she threw her arms around Huang Feng. "I got second in our grade! Huang Feng, Huang Feng, did you see?"

"AHHHH!!! Susu, you’re amazing! Second in the grade! If you ignore that monster, God Xi, you’re basically number one."

Huang Feng was no less excited than Xu Su. She knew the most about Xu Su’s family situation and was thrilled that Xu Su would be receiving the three-thousand-yuan scholarship.

When Xu Su finally cald down from her excitent, she saw Xi Zirong watching her with a smile from a short distance away.

Xu Su’s face flushed. Xi Zirong deserved a great deal of the credit for her steady improvent.

During the days before the results were released, Xi Zirong had estimated her score and was certain she would place in the top three of their grade.

Now that the results were out, Xu Su felt not only gratitude toward Xi Zirong, but also profound admiration.

’Getting private tutoring from the god of studying... it really is the best.’

’Of course, it’d be perfect if his smile wasn’t so damn dazzling.’

On the day the final exam results ca out, Teacher Wu ca to the classroom to announce the details for the school break.

Sumr break would last for half a month. It would officially start on July 1st, and students were to return to school to register on July 16th.

This sester’s scholarships would be distributed ahead of schedule.

Teacher Wu explained that this was because the scholarships were funded by a donation from an entrepreneur. The person had donated anonymously, seeking neither fa nor profit.

To assure the donor that all the donated funds were being given to the students, the school decided to hold a special awards ceremony.

They also specifically invited the entrepreneur who had made the massive five-million-yuan donation to attend.

Teacher Wu said, "Tomorrow, everyone is to dress neatly in your school uniforms and assemble on the athletic field. Once the scholarships are awarded, sumr break will officially begin. Return to school on July 16th to register. The new class assignnts will be posted in advance, so you’ll just need to find your assigned classroom."

"Just like during military training, all students must assemble on the field before 7:30. No being late, and no leaving early. Don’t think that just because you’ll be in different classes next year you can ignore my attendance rules. Do you hear ?"

Teacher Wu had a commanding presence. What student would dare to disobey him? They all nodded in agreent.

He then said to Xi Zirong, "You’ll take roll call early tomorrow. If anyone is late, write down their na for ."

While Teacher Wu was still talking, Huang Feng was already bubbling with excitent.

She hadn’t made it into the top fifty of the grade this ti, but Qian Jia and Xu Su both had. Two of her best friends would be receiving awards tomorrow.

Huang Feng whispered, "I’ve been at First High School for four years, and this is the first ti I’ve ever seen an awards ceremony for scholarships. The third-year graduates will be there too. I heard the scholarships for the third-years are huge, over ten thousand yuan."

Xu Su was also a little surprised. "That much?"

That was over ten thousand yuan. Xu Weiping worked his fingers to the bone hauling goods at the textile factory for a month and only made seventeen or eighteen hundred yuan, yet a single scholarship at First High School was worth over ten thousand.

’Then again, whoever can get the first-place scholarship is bound to have great college entrance exam scores, too.’

’Thinking about it that way, Xu Su could kind of understand.’

’Scholarships are, after all, always for students with good grades.’

’If your grades aren’t good enough, it doesn’t matter how high the prize money is; it has nothing to do with you.’

As her thoughts drifted, Xu Su started to wonder again if the person who donated five million yuan was Zhou Mochen.

’Five million yuan... with no desire for fa or profit. Even if Chang City had that kind of big shot, they probably wouldn’t do sothing like this, would they?’

’If it is Zhou Mochen, does that an he’ll show up at my school tomorrow? And even watch receive my award?’

Thinking of Zhou Mochen, Xu Su pulled out her phone and looked at their chat history. They ssaged each other every day, but Xu Su hadn’t seen Zhou Mochen in about ten days.

’That’s not like him...’

Just as she was thinking about it, her phone vibrated. A ssage from Zhou Mochen ca in: "Susu, are your final exam results out? How did you do? Think you’ll get a scholarship? When does your break start? How long is sumr break?"

Faced with the string of questions, Xu Su fell silent for a mont. After so thought, she typed back: "A few months ago, a mysterious entrepreneur donated five million yuan to our school, specifically designated for scholarships. Was that person you?"

Usually, Zhou Mochen replied to her texts in a flash, but this ti, several minutes passed before he responded: "It was . I was originally planning to surprise you tomorrow, but since you’ve already figured it out, I don’t want to lie to you."

"..." Xu Su gripped her phone tightly.

’Surprise my ass!’

’It really was Zhou Mochen. I knew it. Where else in Chang City would you find soone so loaded he’d donate a fortune to a school for nothing in return? And most importantly, he specified it was for scholarships.’

’Wasn’t this just his way of secretly helping ? Was he worried I was that broke?’

Xu Su felt uneasy. She thought about it for an entire class period.

Finally, she ca to a conclusion. No matter what, she had earned these grades herself. She was getting the scholarship on her own rit.

As for whether Zhou Mochen’s original intention in donating so much money was to help her, she refused to dwell on it.

The debt of gratitude was too heavy. She didn’t want to carry it.

’Thinking about that five million yuan, how easily Zhou Mochen had just donated it...’

It made her think of her previous life, when her grandmother had a cerebral hemorrhage. She was rushed to Chang City for ergency treatnt overnight. The dical bills, along with the rehabilitation and recovery costs, ca to nearly two hundred thousand yuan.

The Chen family was poor. Xu Su’s two uncles and eldest aunt couldn’t even scrape together fifty thousand yuan, and Chen Shulan couldn’t co up with that much money either.

At the ti, Xu Su was about to take her college entrance exams but had no heart for her studies. She spent day after day at the hospital, crying until her eyes were swollen shut.

Later, Chen Shulan had said that Zhou Mochen, who lived across the hall, was obviously a rich man and wouldn’t miss that kind of money. She told Xu Su to go ask him to borrow two hundred thousand yuan.

Chen Shulan had said, "A man who’s willing to drive you to and from school every day must be kind-hearted. If you go ask him, he won’t say no."

Chen Shulan had said, "You don’t want your grandmother to be denied life-saving treatnt just because there’s no money, do you?"

Chen Shulan had said, "Go and ask him. Do it for your grandmother’s sake."
