Xu Su was always true to her word. The next morning, right after breakfast, she had the two of them in her room and started their tutoring session.

Throughout the session, her phone would vibrate from ti to ti, and Xu Su would reply to Zhou Mochen’s ssages every now and then.

He hadn’t gotten back to Chang City until after ten o’clock last night. Because he was driving, Zhou Mochen hadn’t texted Xu Su.

When his usual 9:30 PM text didn’t arrive, Xu Su had actually been a little worried.

So, for the first ti, she proactively dialed Zhou Mochen’s number.

At the ti, Zhou Mochen still hadn’t gotten off the highway. When he answered, his voice was ecstatic. It was as if the fatigue from the long drive had been completely swept away by her call.

Xu Su didn’t want to distract him while he was driving, so she quickly hung up.

From the mont she woke up this morning, Zhou Mochen’s texts had been coming in nonstop.

Chen Ni and Chen Dong had also curiously picked up her phone to play with it. Fortunately, they weren’t familiar with cell phones and couldn’t find the ssaging app, so they didn’t see Zhou Mochen’s texts.

Chen Ni couldn’t seem to put the phone down. She casually asked how much it cost.

Xu Su promised that if she could get into a university, she would buy her a phone.

This made the young girl grin from ear to ear, and her motivation to study went through the roof.

Xu Su taught diligently, and they studied diligently.

Life in the countryside was leisurely. Besides studying, Xu Su often took walks through the fields. Sotis, as the sun was setting in the late afternoon, she would take her younger cousins up the mountain specifically to gather a few bags of kindling to bring back.

Sotis, she would even take her eldest uncle’s ox out to graze, becoming a little cowherd girl.

This was the place where she grew up. The nearby fields, ponds, and mountains of all sizes bore her footprints.

Shuinan Town only had a market day once a week. Her two uncles made a special trip to see if they could find a blood pressure monitor for sale. The hospital didn’t have one, and neither did the town’s only pharmacy.

So, a week into sumr vacation, Xu Su, Grandma Xu, Chen Ni, and Chen Dong went to the county seat together.

In a pharmacy by the entrance of the People’s Hospital, they bought what they were looking for, then wandered around a bit more.

Having attended school in the county town for three years, Xu Su was more familiar with it than the others.

She made a point to take Chen Ni to First High School to show her the way, and then took Chen Dong to the Third High School he would be attending next sester.

For lunch, they ate at a fast-food place near the school. The new graduating class at First High School hadn’t started their break yet, so the fast-food restaurants outside the school gates had a wide variety of dishes at affordable prices.

The four of them ate their fill, and even with drinks included, the bill didn’t exceed twenty yuan.

Grandma Xu was getting on in years and wasn’t as nimble on her feet. After walking around all morning, she was a bit tired, so they boarded the bus to head back.

That night, at a little past eleven, Xu Su was woken by the vibration of her phone.

Half-asleep, she fumbled for her phone and answered without checking who was calling.

Zhou Mochen’s voice ca through. "Susu, are you asleep?"

His voice was soft and very pleasant to hear.

Xu Su frowned, becoming a little more awake. She glanced at the ti. Afraid of waking her grandmother in the next room, she lowered her voice. "Zhou Mochen, have you looked at the ti? Of course I was asleep."

"Be good, Susu. Can you co out and see ? I’m on the road in front of your grandma’s house."

It was quiet on his end; she could almost hear the croaking of a frog or two. Xu Su’s eyes flew open, all sleepiness gone.

After a mont of silence, Xu Su slowly got up. She was sleeping in the front room, and her window faced the main road.

The moonlight on a sumr night was bright, so bright that Xu Su could clearly see the silhouette of Zhou Mochen leaning against his car door.

"..." So, the croaking of frogs wasn’t just her imagination.

’This guy really showed up in the middle of the night! I knew it! Once Zhou Mochen knew where her grandmother lived, she wouldn’t get any peace and quiet, even hiding out in the countryside.’

Xu Su was a little angry, but also felt an indescribable emotion. Her voice was still very low. "If you’re so bored you’re going crazy, go for a night run, lift so weights, or even go for a swim! Can’t you just not bother in the middle of the night?"

The more she spoke, the angrier she got. "What did you promise ? That you wouldn’t let my relatives here at my grandma’s see you. So what are you doing here now?"

Zhou Mochen had expected her to be angry, but he couldn’t stop himself from coming. He didn’t want to be so pathetic, as if he couldn’t live without this young woman.

But he just couldn’t resist.

They hadn’t seen each other for seven days. Although they kept in touch via text, compared to having the real person standing in front of him, those individual characters seed far too cold.

Zhou Mochen had always been patient with Xu Su and didn’t mind her attitude. He coaxed her softly, "It’s so late, everyone in the village is asleep. No one will see. Just co out and let see you."

"Xu Su, I really miss you so much. The thought of you being so far away from makes a little frantic."

"..." Xu Su was struck silent by his blunt words.

’She rembered tis at school when they’d gone more than ten days without seeing each other. Why was it different now?’

What Xu Su didn’t know was that on many nights, Zhou Mochen’s car would be parked outside First High School. When he couldn’t get her to co out, he would just stare at the school’s academic buildings from across the gate, wondering which building and which classroom Xu Su was studying in at that mont.

He would imagine what she was doing, wondering if she would be frowning in concentration as she worked through a difficult problem.

Relying on these imaginings was the only way Zhou Mochen could stop himself from disturbing the young woman’s studies.

CREAK... The sound echoed in the quiet night.

The wooden main gate was pulled open just a crack. In the end, Xu Su ca out.

Xu Su hadn’t changed, still wearing the loose, oversized T-shirt and athletic shorts she slept in.

First High School had a clear rule that female students couldn’t wear short skirts or hot pants. Aside from her school uniform, most of Xu Su’s other clothes were long pants or long skirts.

As a result, her thighs had rarely seen the sun. Under the night sky, their paleness was dazzling.

Clutching her phone, Xu Su tiptoed out the door and hurried over to Zhou Mochen with tiny steps, urging him, "Hurry, hurry, start the car! I’m afraid one of my uncles will get up in the night and see you."

It was rare for Zhou Mochen to see Xu Su out of her school uniform and dressed so casually; he was a bit stunned.

Xu Su grabbed his arm. "Hurry up and get in the car! Is this really a place where we can talk?"

Zhou Mochen took her hand in his, opened the passenger door, and guided her in before quickly getting into the driver’s seat himself.

In the car, Xu Su gave him directions. In just a few minutes, they stopped in an empty lot next to Shuinan Town Middle School. The area was silent and deserted.

The mont the car stopped, Xu Su spoke directly. "Zhou Mochen, I hope this is the last ti you co looking for here during my sumr vacation."

Her tone wasn’t good; it was filled with anger.

Then, her hand was held, and a gentle male voice imdiately replied, "Alright, I promise."

From the mont he saw Xu Su, Zhou Mochen’s heart had lted.

He even felt that he would unconditionally agree to anything this young woman in front of him said right now.

Xu Su hadn’t even had a chance to marvel at how agreeable he was being—so unlike his usual style.

When she heard Zhou Mochen add, "I ca all this way. How about you give a hug?"
