After all the dishes were served, the waiters left, and Su Zhinian pulled the chair beside Song Qingchun out and sat down. He ladled a bowl of soup for Song Qingchun, placed it before her, and passed her a spoon.
Before Song Qingchun accepted the spoon, she raised her eyes to glance at Su Zhinian. She stretched her lips before saying softly, "I can eat alone just fine; why don't you go back upstairs?"
"It's fine," Su Zhinian responded in a tone that was as nonchalant as it could be. He wiggled the spoon at Song Qingchun. When she accepted it, he grabbed a piece of fish and put it in his bowl. He deboned the fish before switching his bowl with the one before Song Qingchun.
Su Zhinian then grabbed a few of Song Qingchun's favorite shrimps and placed them in the bowl. He was rolling up his sleeves and ready to help her with the shrimp shells when he noticed she was still holding the spoon in her hand and hadn't had a bite of anything. He thus turned to address her and said firmly, "Miss Cheng is good at her job; if she's there, I don't need to be. She'll handle everything."
Song Qingchun was familiar with Cheng Qingchong's professionalism and work ethic. However, if Cheng Qingchong could truly handle everything, Su Zhinian would not have needed to personally acpany CEO Lee in the first place, would he? Furthermore, Cheng Qingchong did mention that CEO Lee might not sign the contract if Su Zhinian didn't return.
Song Qingchun took a sip of the chicken soup, and she still felt anxious. She turned to Su Zhinian and suggested, "Why don't you go back to CEO Lee? I'll wait for you here."
After a pause, Song Qingchun added, "In the meantime, you can have Miss Cheng e down to be my pany."
Su Zhinian tossed Song Qingchun a reassuring look. "It's really fine, don't worry about it."
Song Qingchun was forted by the conviction in his voice. She took another few sips of the soup and was about to grab the fish he had given her when she turned around, bit on her lips anxiously, and asked, "Are you sure that it's really fine?"
Su Zhinian caught the uncertainty at the bottom of her eyes. He subconsciously wanted to reach out to pat her on the head to console her, but he stopped himself when he saw how oily his hands were from the shrimp. So, he reassured her again. "It's really fine."
He was concerned that issue might get stuck in her mind, so he added, "Furthermore, I managed to raise Song Empire from the dead, do you think this deal, if it falls through, is going to harm me?"
Song Qingchun felt truly reassured. After a long night, she was indeed hungry, and with Su Zhinian's pany, she started to eat.
When she was about sixty percent full, Song Qingchun looked at Su Zhinian, who was reaching out to grab the towel to wipe his hands, and opened her lips to call his name. "Su Zhinian?"
"Hmm?" Su Zhinian replied automatically as he grabbed for another paper towel.
Song Qingchun knew he wasn't looking at her, but she still lowered her head from shame. She stared at the bowl of deshelled shrimps in front of her, bit on her lips, gripped her chopsticks tightly, and she uttered in a soft voice, "I'm so sorry."
Su Zhinian suddenly stopped moving.
He didn't turn to look at her while her soft, whispering tone continued to drift into his ears. "I'm really sorry for what I did tonight; I hope I haven't caused you too much trouble."
