In the distance, within the shadows cast by a mountain of crates, a monstrous figure suddenly materialized. It writhed violently on the ground, tornted by the searing pain of the Soul-Burning Fla.
Zhou Chen finally got a clear look at the thing. It was a wolf-like creature, but it was far more muscular than any wolf. Its claws and fangs were sharper, its body was covered in short, black fur, and its eye sockets were dark voids, as if set with two black gems. In the darkness, its body seed semi-incorporeal.
An Abyssal Creature that moves through shadows—the Shadow Demon Wolf.
And also, one of Gentleman’s kept minions.
’How did it find ? Did Gentleman mark with so kind of shadow aura?’ As the thought crossed Zhou Chen’s mind, he raised his pistol and fired.
Though in agony from the flas, the Shadow Demon Wolf hadn’t lost its will to fight. Its body abruptly beca dark and incorporeal, like a fleeting Ghost. The Alchemy Bullet passed right through it as if through empty air, dealing no damage and blasting a crater into the crate behind it.
However, the Cyan Fla imbued on the Alchemy Bullet ignited within the Shadow Demon Wolf’s body, intensifying its searing pain.
’So it’s partially immune to physical attacks in its Phantom State?’ Zhou Chen clicked his tongue. ’Good thing my Ability is special and can still damage it.’
Just then, the Shadow Demon Wolf charged, galloping on all fours in a frenzy.
Its form flickered between incorporeal and solid, like a hologram suffering from interference, unable to maintain its Phantom state for long.
Beneath his armored faceplate, Zhou Chen calmly blew the Soul-Shocking Copper Whistle. A short, sharp blast spread out, causing the Shadow Demon Wolf to freeze mid-lunge, its body going rigid.
Seizing the opportunity, he raised his pistol, aid, and pulled the trigger.
BANG!
The instant the Shadow Demon Wolf turned solid, the Enchanted Bullet scread through the air and its head exploded like a waterlon. The massive body’s montum carried it forward a few more feet before it crashed heavily to the ground, oozing foul, black blood.
Before Zhou Chen could even catch his breath, his Spiritual Perception flared. Two more monstrous black shadows were gliding in from the warehouse entrance at incredible speed.
’More of them?!’
Like fish leaping from water, two Shadow Demon Wolves in their Phantom State erupted from the floor, soaring through the air and closing the distance in an instant.
Zhou Chen rapidly backed away, trying to create distance. Then, the two Shadow Demon Wolves vanished in mid-air, and a profound, malevolent chill washed over him from behind.
’Shadow Shifting!’
The two Shadow Demon Wolves erupted from his own shadow, their gaping maws snapping at him.
CRUNCH.
With a clang of tal and a shower of sparks, one Shadow Demon Wolf’s fangs snapped against the hard tal of the Battle Armor, leaving behind deep bite marks.
The pale Soul-Burning Fla erupted from his body, and the two Demon Wolves recoiled from the heat, instinctively releasing their grip and lting back into the Darkness.
Zhou Chen dashed to a nearby sack and pulled out a box. He took out two high-purity Essence Crystals and, gripping them tightly, activated his Transformation Array to convert all the Essence within them for his own use.
His Mana Bar refilled completely, with energy from the Essence Crystals still to spare.
At that sa mont, the two Shadow Demon Wolves attacked, one from the left and one from the right.
Zhou Chen kicked the sack away and summoned his Alloy Round Shield to block the Demon Wolf on his left.
With a flick of the Flintlock Pistol in his right hand, a massive white fireball shot out, leaving a dazzling, pale-white trail of fla as it hurtled toward the Demon Wolf on the right.
’I’ll take one out first!’
The Demon Wolf on the right shifted into its dark Phantom State, hoping to beco immune to the fireball, but the pale orb of fla slamd squarely into it anyway.
"AARROOO..." As if struck by a heavy blow, the Shadow Demon Wolf let out a tragic howl. Its movents halted, and it fell face-first, thrashing on the ground in agony.
Zhou Chen was about to blow its head off when, with a loud SCREECH, his Alloy Round Shield cried out as steel tore and sparks flew. The other Shadow Demon Wolf’s sharp claws had ripped a huge gash in it!
The Shadow Demon Wolf swiped its claws, and the terrifying force sent him flying, slamming him hard against the warehouse wall.
BOOM.
Spiderweb-like cracks spread across the wall around a man-shaped crater as dust rained down.
’Doesn’t even hurt...’ Zhou Chen slid to the floor. He flexed his limbs and felt no pain at all; the Battle Armor had absorbed the full force of the impact.
At that mont, both Shadow Demon Wolves vanished again, slipping into the shadows.
’I have to force them out...’ Zhou Chen pressed his palm against a tal crate, preparing for a repeat performance—another explosion.
A few seconds later, a large Alchemy Bomb ford in his hand.
KABOOM!
A surging wave of white fire exploded outward, blasting both Shadow Demon Wolves out from the shadows.
Just then, the several chandeliers on the ceiling above were struck by the shockwave. They let out a FZZZT, their lights flickering erratically.
With a final POP, they went out.
The warehouse was instantly plunged into complete Darkness.
’Fuck!’ Zhou Chen cursed internally, quickly forming and lighting a flare.
And then he saw them. Two monstrous heads, sohow right in front of him, re inches away. His breath caught in his throat.
The next second, a ring of pale fire erupted, rolling outward in a wave. Wild tongues of fla lashed out, forcing the two Demon Wolves back.
A piercing whistle followed, and the Shadow Demon Wolves’ movents instantly froze, leaving them as still as puppets.
