The harsh fluorescent light seared into Xavier’s eyes as he jolted awake, his body stiff from the thin cot beneath him. He squeezed his lids shut, then slowly pried them open, his vision adjusting to the sterile glow. The cell to his right held the werewolf girl, her golden eyes closed, her posture too still for sleep. She sat cross-legged, her fingers resting lightly on her knees—ditating, Xavier realized.

’How long had he been out?’

His stomach growled, a hollow ache clawing at his ribs. He hadn’t eaten since his arrest. The prison’s single al had been gray slop, but he’d refused it. Now, hunger gnawed at him like a living thing.

’Why hasn’t haven’t I been interrogated?’

He had asked the other prisoners, and they said that the routine of interrogation was that they would be interrogated within three hours of being arrested. But for Xavier, it has nearly been a day. And Xavier still wasn’t taken in for the statent.

So ti passed, and a tallic clang echoed down the corridor. Xavier tensed as two guards stopped before his cell, their visors reflecting the harsh light.

"Ti for your statent," one grunted, unlocking the force field.

Xavier stood, his muscles protesting. Most prisoners would’ve been terrified. But Xavier? He’d been waiting.

The guards marched him through the prison’s labyrinthine halls. They reached the interrogation room, its door a slab of reinforced steel. One guard shoved him inside.

"Wait here."

The door sealed shut behind him.

Xavier exhaled, his fingers curling into fists.

’Finally.’

The door hissed open again.

Xavier turned—expecting Dominic Hart.

But it wasn’t.

Instead, Maximilian stood in the doorway, his expression unreadable.

’What is he doing here?’ Xavier wondered.

Maximilian leaned against the interrogation table, his smirk sharp as a blade, his polished boots clicking against the cold tal floor. "My father runs this prison," he drawled, his voice dripping with arrogance. "I can do whatever I want here. Kill you right now, and no one would bat an eye."

Xavier didn’t flinch. He just sat there, his fingers drumming lightly against the table, his expression bored.

Maximilian’s grin widened, his teeth glinting in the harsh light. "Enjoying your new life, loser?" His voice was a sneer, his eyes raking over Xavier like he was sothing beneath him.

Xavier stretched his arms, feigning a yawn, his voice dry. "Actually, it’s more comfortable than my apartnt. Bigger cell, better view." He tilted his head, his tone mocking. "Though the food could use work."

Maximilian’s smirk faltered, his fingers curling into fists. "You think this is a joke?"

"I think you’re bad at insults. You should do Ethan do that."

Maximilian’s face darkened, his breath coming faster. "This is your last day here."

Xavier pretended to be surprised and asked, "How did you know that I am getting out of here in the next 30 minutes?"

Maximilian slamd his fist on the table, the tal clanging like a gunshot. "You’re not getting out, you piece of shit!" His voice was a roar, spit flying from his lips. "I heard my father talking on the phone with Lucas’ grandfather, and he said that you are going to die tonight."

Xavier sighed, shaking his head in disappointnt, his voice cold. "Pathetic."

"You shouldn’t have ssed with and Lucas," he sneered, his voice dripping with venom. "None of this would’ve happened if you’d just minded your business."

Xavier didn’t flinch. He just sat there, his fingers drumming lightly against the table, his expression unbothered. Then, suddenly, his deanor shifted. He leaned back in his chair, propping his feet up on the table like he owned the place.

Maximilian’s eyes widened, his smirk faltering.

Xavier’s voice was calm, asured. "It wasn’t who ssed with you. I didn’t do a single thing. It was you. Lucas. His friends." He tilted his head, his gaze locking onto Maximilian’s. "You ssed with ."

Maximilian’s composure snapped back into place, his smirk returning. "So what?" He spread his hands, his tone dripping with arrogance. "We’re rich. We have power. We can do whatever we want."

Xavier tilted his head, his expression unbothered. "Why did you beco friends with Lucas?"

Maximilian didn’t answer, his jaw tightening.

Xavier pressed. "You could’ve been friends with anyone. So why him?" His voice was light, almost conversational. "Was it just the money?"

Maximilian’s face darkened, his fingers curling into fists. "Shut up."

Xavier’s gaze locked onto his, unflinching. "Do you even see Lucas as a friend?" His voice was soft, almost thoughtful. "Or just a walking bank account?"

Maximilian stuttered, his breath coming faster. "Of course he’s my friend."

Xavier chuckled, his voice low. "Does he see you as one?"

Maximilian’s voice was a snarl. "What nonsense are you spouting?" He leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. "Who are you to ask these questions?"

Xavier didn’t stop. "If you needed help, do you think Lucas would lift a finger?" His voice was calm, almost conversational. "Lucas has a strong family background and the Blackwood family is well known everywhere on the planet, even in space. His family’s set for life. He could live in luxury without doing a thing." He tilted his head, his gaze locking onto Maximilian’s. "But what about you?"

Maximilian’s fingers curled into fists, his knuckles whitening. Then, in a flash, he lunged, grabbing Xavier’s collar and yanking him up. "You want to die?" His voice was a growl, his breath hot against Xavier’s face.

The door hissed open.

Dominic Hart stood in the doorway, a box in his hands. His gaze flicked between them, then settled on Maximilian. "What are you doing?" His voice was sharp, his expression unreadable. "This is being recorded."

Maximilian didn’t answer, his grip tightening on Xavier’s collar.

Dominic sighed, setting the box down on the table. "Don’t worry," he said, his voice calm. "I’ll delete the recording. I haven’t set the interrogation ti yet."

Maximilian released Xavier, his voice dripping with venom. "Sha this is the last ti I’ll see you."

Xavier smirked, his voice taunting. "You’ll see soon enough. I have prepared a surprise for you." His smile widened. "You’ll like it."

Maximilian turned to Dominic, and shouted, "Make sure this piece of shit dies today."

Then he stord out, the door slamming shut behind him.

Dominic sat down on the chair and looked straight at Xavier with an intimidating look on his face. Then, he turned on the recording and officially began the interrogation.

He popped his knuckles and asked, "So, Xavier. Are you ready to confess everything?"
