Wen Yaonan completely ignoring what others think of him, swaggered his way into the venue.
Having attended countless welco parties since childhood, he knew they were rely events where the elite dressed up to brag, exchange pleasantries, sip drinks, and admire beauties — nothing out of the ordinary.
As he walked inside, he was surrounded by familiar faces.
Few greeted Wen Yaonan, and he didn’t care to greet anyone either.
His deep brown jacket stood in stark contrast to the sea of suits and ties around him.
Strolling here and there, snacking on a pastry, Wen Yaonan grew increasingly bored.
Just as he was contemplating leaving, he turned and noticed Gu Beichuan sitting in a corner.
"Huh... what’s this guy doing here?"
Seeing his old ’war buddy’, Wen Yaonan perked up and swaggered over.
"Beichuan, long ti no see!" Wen Yaonan grinned cheekily, lazily sitting next to Gu Beichuan, crossing his legs like a carefree rogue.
If Xing Ye were here, he’d surely point at Wen Yaonan and tell his mom, this is what a true rascal looks like.
Gu Beichuan seed unwell, coughing into a handkerchief before turning to Wen Yaonan.
"Yes, it’s been a while." Gu Beichuan smiled, recalling so rumors he heard about Wen Yaonan earlier, he teased, "I heard lately you’ve been bringing different won ho every night?"
"Damn! You know about that?" Wen Yaonan sat up straight, then slapped his forehead, admiring himself, "Looks like I’m famous for sleeping around!"
Watching him, Gu Beichuan suddenly rembered his own years of indulgent living.
"Not planning to settle down? You’re not young anymore."
After so thought, he brought it up.
As soon as Gu Beichuan finished speaking, Wen Yaonan stared at him like he’d seen a ghost — his eyes filled with disbelief!
"Did I... did I hear you right? You’re actually saying this to ? Others might, but you’re Gu Beichuan! The eldest of the Gu Family! Rember the tis we brushed through countless affairs without a trace? How carefree we were! Surely you haven’t forgotten?"
Wen Yaonan grew more animated, never expecting Gu Beichuan to say such things!
And so earnestly!
Gu Beichuan anticipated Wen Yaonan’s reaction.
He laughed self-deprecatingly with a hint of irony, "If soone had told this sooner, perhaps the aningful days of my life could have lasted a little longer."
"Uh..." Wen Yaonan paused, hearing Gu Beichuan’s somber tone, he realized, counting the days, according to the Gu Family tradition, Gu Beichuan didn’t have much ti left.
This thought left him silent, Wen Yaonan rarely frowned, his eyes carrying a sadness impossible to hide.
He patted Gu Beichuan’s shoulder, wanting to say sothing, but opened his mouth unsure of what to utter.
Death discussions often lead to instinctive silence, followed by fear.
Fortunately, Gu Beichuan had long accepted it.
Since he could rember, he knew his ti was limited.
Death is inevitable, no one can escape.
"Honestly Yaonan, you’re not getting any younger, stop ssing around. You haven’t had kids yet, what if you ruin your health?"
