Daisy Grant smiled faintly, occasionally chiming in, but mostly just listening to the two speak. Her face maintained a smile, but the depths of her eyes grew increasingly dim.
She watched the two in front of her continue to talk, feeling a bit blocked in her heart, so much so that her appetite wasn’t very good, and everything she ate seed tasteless.
Although Dawn Sutherland’s gaze was on Evalian Chapman across the table, chatting with her, the corner of his eye was always on the person silently eating beside him. Seeing that she wasn’t saying much, Dawn shifted the topic to her: "Daisy, how co you two are having dinner together today?"
As Daisy, who had been eating quietly with her head down, heard the gentle voice calling her na, her heart trembled fiercely. Raising her eyes again, warmth filled her eyes, and she gave a slight smile: "I ran into Evalian while shopping at the mall, so we decided to have so Western food together. Evalian said she wanted to thank you for lending her your car that night, so she called to see if you were free and invited you to join us for dinner."
From across the table, Evalian laughed and responded: "Daisy even said you probably wouldn’t have ti! See, it’s a good thing I called to check!"
Daisy smiled but didn’t respond to Evalian’s comnt.
Dawn wore a gentle smile on his face and started speaking in a soothing tone, "Normally I really wouldn’t have ti at this hour, but today I managed to find a bit of free ti and received your call, Evalian."
"Then I guess I’m really lucky," Evalian bead.
Midway through the al, Dawn’s phone rang. He gave an apologetic smile to the two and took his phone to the restroom to answer the call.
Only Daisy and Evalian were left in the restaurant.
Evalian leaned forward, closer to Daisy, and softly asked, "Daisy, what do you think of Dawn Sutherland?"
Daisy’s hand holding the knife and fork stiffened a bit. She raised her eyes to look at Evalian and gave a slight smile: "He’s great."
In her heart, no one could compare to him—serene and gentle, thoughtful and tender, the one she loved the most, the one she wanted most to marry.
Evalian’s face lit up with a smile, a faint blush rising on her cheeks as she unnaturally and shyly said, "I think Dawn is great too, polite and generous, clean and handso, just like a prince straight out of a childhood fairy tale, perfect and flawless!"
As girls, how could Daisy not understand Evalian’s little intentions when she so openly expressed her fondness for Dawn?
Evalian had fallen for Dawn, for the man Daisy loved.
Daisy’s fingers felt slightly stiff, her face carried a faint smile, and she agreed, "Yes, he’s perfect, and whoever gets to marry him will be very happy."
Evalian nodded like a pecking hen, leaning even closer to Daisy and speaking softly, "Daisy, help pursue Dawn, will you?! Honestly, I had a crush on him since high school, and I still like him now! He happens to need a girlfriend, and I happen to need a boyfriend, we’re a perfect match, don’t you think? Dawn treats all girls similarly, polite and gentlemanly, but with you it’s different, he sees you as a little sister! I suddenly think you’re really lucky, Daisy, I’m so envious of you! Help chase Dawn, will you?"
Evalian’s face was adorned with a smile as she revealed her girlish heart. Her smile and words were like sharp blades slicing through Daisy’s heart, causing such pain that she felt as though she couldn’t breathe.
When the one you love can’t be with you, but another girl asks you to help her pursue him, how does it feel?
Heart-wrenchingly painful, unbearable, that’s exactly how Daisy felt at that mont.
And Evalian’s phrase "Dawn sees you as a little sister" wounded her beyond asure.
Besides sister-in-law, was there no other identity she had in Dawn’s heart?
