The mont the countdown ended, the world erupted. The biting wind, the endless snow.. it all vanished, replaced by the singular, searing focus of combat.

But Ava didn't charge in first like Jayden thought she would. She didn't adopt a formal stance. Instead, she stepped forward with an easy grin and extended her closed fist towards him, a universal gesture of sportsmanship, a pre-fight tap of gloved knuckles.

Jayden, respecting the unspoken rule, raised his own fist to acknowledge hers. But in that mont of letting his guard down, Ava's hand suddenly flared with light.

A brilliant, sapphire-blue light pulsed in her palm, condensing in a nanosecond.

And unexpectedly, a sharp, electric hiss, a beam of pure energy shot from her hand, aid directly at his chest.

Jayden's instincts scread—he twisted sideways, the shot sizzling past his ribs and scorching a trail across the snow behind him. His boots dug into the frozen earth as he skidded back, breath puffing white.

Ava tilted her head, still smiling as her fingers smoked with leftover light. "What? You thought I'd play nice?"

Jayden sprang back to his feet, heart hamring against his ribs. He tutted under his breath, narrowing his eyes. "She's a long-range fighter," he speculated. Just like Storm. Deceptive, powerful, and reliant on keeping their distance.

The strategy ford instantly: evade, close the gap, and wear her out. He'd let her fire off her energy attacks until she was drained, then move in for the finish.

But Jayden was wrong. So utterly wrong.

Before he could even take a second breath, Ava moved. But she didn't fire another beam. Instead, she blurred forward in an instant, boots crunching against the snow with a predator's speed.

She was suddenly in his face, fist snapping toward his jaw. Jayden raised an arm to block... only to feel his wrist wrenched, his balance broken. The impact was startlingly solid, sending a jolt up his arm. This was no fragile mage. She was a brawler.

Jayden gritted his teeth, shoving her off and countering with a low kick, but she spun away and punished his opening with a jab across his cheek. The sting echoed through his jaw.

He moved again, the next exchange was faster. Fists, knees, elbows—both striking, blocking, redirecting. Snow sprayed as their boots carved grooves into the ground.

Ava's hair whipped with every turn, her eyes glittering with sharp, playful focus. Her movents were sharp, efficient, flowing. Not just wild swings but technique. The sweep of her leg, the twist of her hips.. she was no doubt a seasoned martial artist.

The fight devolved into a whirlwind of close-quarters combat. Fists and feet beca a deadly dance against the stark white backdrop. And for the first ti since Cassandra and Laura, Jayden found himself on the back foot. Ava's style was fluid and grappling, a ferocious application of jiu-jitsu.

She didn't just et his force with her own; she redirected it, using his montum against him. She'd slip under a punch, her hand snaking around his wrist, attempting to lock his joints. A kick from him was t not with a block, but with a leg sweep that nearly took him off his feet.

She was impossibly fast, unnervingly strong, and agile as a snow leopard in its elent. Jayden blocked, parried, and countered, his own formidable martial arts skills pushed to their absolute limit. But she was always a step ahead, a fraction of a second faster. Each block rattled his bones, each near-miss was a testant to her lethal precision. He was holding on, but barely.

This couldn't continue. To be decisive, he needed an edge.

"Getting tired yet?" Ava teased mid-grapple, flipping free of his attempted hold and shoving him back with a shoulder strike.

Jayden slid across the ice, steadying himself. His breath ca faster, but his grin only grew sharper. "Not even close."

Then, in that brief mont of separation, he flexed his fingers. With a sharp schlick, six gleaming adamantium claws extended from his knuckles, three on each hand. They glinted dangerously in the pale mountain light.

Ava saw them and a slow, appreciative smirk spread across her face. "Ooh... claws out already? How forward of you." she teased, her breath misting in the air.

Jayden twirled them once, settling into stance. "Scared?" he teased back.

Ava chuckled. Then, sothing shifted. The playful glint in her sapphire eyes intensified, burning with an inner light. "Not exactly." she murmured with a sly smirk.

Then… an energy, the sa brilliant blue as her laser beam, began to swirl around her hands. It wasn't wild or explosive, but controlled, weaving and coalescing like liquid light. The energy solidified, stretching from the back of her palms and tapering into three viciously sharp claws on each hand, perfect emulations of his own. They humd with a low, contained power.

Jayden stared, montarily stunned. He'd seen energy weapons, but never constructs this intricate, this reactive, manifested on the fly.

Ava wiggled her new astral claws, her eyes darting to Jayden, who looked surprised. "What? It was only fair I brought in claws of my own."

A low chuckle escaped Jayden's lips. It was a sound of pure, unadulterated excitent. He settled back into his stance, his own smirk matching hers. "Very well," he said, his voice a low growl of anticipation. "Ready?"

Ava grinned. "Always." she replied, flexing her fingers as the claws shimred.

They lunged at the sa ti.

Claws clashed with claws, sparks of light and frost exploding around them. The dull thuds of body blows were replaced by the piercing shriek of adamantium scraping against pure energy. Blue and silver sparks flew with every parry, every block, every swipe.

Their blows were fierce but precise.. neither wasting motion, neither willing to relent. The arena rang with the crack of impact after impact, each strike countered, each feint punished.

In an attempt to jab, Ava lunged with her claws. Jayden caught her wrist, twisting her arm, but Ava spun with it, bringing her knee toward his ribs. He blocked, slashed back, only for her energy claws to scrape against his, the sound sharp like glass grinding on steel.

Jayden imdiately shifted, swinging low.. Ava caught it with her claw and rolled him over her shoulder. He landed in a crouch, slashing upward, only for her to parry and counter with a spinning elbow that grazed his temple.

He staggered, but grinned wider.

They circled, breathing hard. Frost-laden winds howled between them, but neither looked away. It wasn't just fighting anymore. It was a conversation. A dialogue of fists and claws, push and pull, advance and retreat.

Then they lunged again.

Their claws carved arcs of light in the air. Jayden slashed in rapid succession, forcing her back, but she t every blow with equal speed, her sapphire constructs clashing against his steel like thunder and lightning colliding.

Ava feinted, ducked, and swept his leg, nearly knocking him down. He caught himself on a claw, flipped, and countered with a backhand slash that narrowly missed her jaw.

"You fight like a beast," she said breathlessly, blocking his next strike.

"And you fight like a goddess," he shot back, locking claws with hers, both straining in the deadlock. Their eyes burned into each other, neither yielding an inch.

Ava's grin widened. "Careful, love. I might start to like you."

With a sudden twist, she broke the lock, spinning behind him, claws flashing. He rolled aside, her strike slicing a tree-sized icicle clean in half. The shards rained down like crystal, catching the glow of her energy claws.

Jayden rose, chest heaving, heart pounding. He hadn't felt like this in... forever. A human opponent who pushed him. Who matched him. Who understood the thrill of the fight. The source of thɪs content is NoveI[F]ire

He smirked through the heavy breaths. "You're holding back, aren't you?"

Ava panted softly. Her eyes glimred like sapphire flas. "I could say the sa for you."

Jayden chuckled. "Maybe I have a thing against hurting ladies." he sighed. "What's your excuse?"

Ava smiled. "Oh, I don't have one. I was simply worried about the ending the fight too quickly if I went all out."

Jayden lips curled up into a smirk. "How thoughtful of you." he teased.

Ava giggled. "Okay, so how about this? From now on, no more holding back. We go all out and fight with everything we've got."

Jayden's smirk widened. "Fine by ."

Ava scoffed. "What happened to having a thing against hurting girls?" she teased.

Jayden shrugged. "That only applies when the girl isn't the one suggesting an all out brawl." he chuckled.

Ava smirked, taking a battle stance. "Fair point." she said, her astral claws glowing brighter and humming with excitent.

Jayden furrowed his brow, his fist clenching.

And then, they charged, going at it again, faster, fiercer. No hesitation. No wasted movent. The snowstorm itself seed to rage around them, echoing their clash.

Neither of them wanted to lose.

Neither of them wanted to win. Not yet.

Because for both Jayden and Ava… this was one of the most exhilarating battles they'd had in a very, very long ti.
