Whoosh!

Caught off guard by the Serpent Maiden’s sudden decision to teleport them to so other place, the first thought Valyr had in mind was to ask where she had teleported them, as well as why she had teleported them in the first place.

Yet, when he sensed the dense yet pure Shadow Energy flowing throughout their current surroundings, those thoughts ca to a grinding halt as another thought surfaced within the young man’s mind instead.

"Did we...?"

"Indeed, we did." Though Valyr was unable to finish his question, the Serpent Maiden already knew what he wanted to ask.

"We have arrived at where the Overseer is staying."

Rumble...

Just as those words left the Serpent Maiden’s mouth, the Shadow Energy within the surroundings began to flicker all of a sudden, eventually transforming into a faint flickering haze that seemingly covered the entire space.

Whoosh!

Wondering what caused the Shadow Energy in the surroundings to transform all of a sudden, the young man soon got his answer as he watched the flickering Shadow Energy congregate towards a spot over a dozen ters away from where he and the Serpent Maiden stood.

Within a matter of seconds, the Shadow Energy took on the shape of a human, only for it to then turn into a pale-skinned man in his thirties wearing a tailored black suit.

Though the being’s eyes were closed the mont it took form, both Valyr and the Serpent Maiden felt as if the being had total control over the entire space they were currently in.

After a few more seconds, the being finally opened its eyes, glancing at the Serpent Maiden with a slightly raised eyebrow the mont it did.

"I suppose there’s a good reason for this?" it asked.

"I apologize for disturbing your rest, Overseer," said the Serpent Maiden in return, her tone respectful as she nodded. "However, this matter does indeed need your presence."

"My presence?" the Overseer replied, slowly shifting its gaze towards Valyr. "rely to take care of a fledgling spy of the Mystic Plane?"

Hearing those words, Valyr’s heart imdiately turned cold, feeling like the worst-case scenario he ca up with earlier was finally happening.

"Spy...?" Unsurprisingly, the Serpent Maiden paused at those words, only to then look at Valyr with both shock and confusion as the Overseer’s words had truly caught her off guard.

Yet, as she examined him for a bit longer, she soon figured out the reason why the Overseer had uttered those words.

Adding on one of the conversations she and Valyr had earlier before heading to where the Overseer stayed, it did not take long for the Serpent Maiden’s expression to turn grim as she asked Valyr a question.

"Are you actually...?"

"I am not," replied the young man before the forr could even finish her question.

Then, as if he already knew that the two remained doubtful towards his claims, he went ahead and swore a veridical oath regarding his connections with the Mystic Plane.

"Under the witness of the omnipotent and omniscient mana, as well as the everlasting and indefatigable truths of the universe, I, Valyr Zeihardt, hereby swear that my connection with the Mystic Plane only extends to becoming its mber, contributor, and its guardian. This connection does not extend towards becoming its spy whatsoever."

"If any of the statents or words that I have uttered thus far go against this claim or contradict its existence, then may the heavens strike down its punishnt at this very mont."

Rumble...

Before the Serpent Maiden and the Overseer could even get over their shock of seeing Valyr swear a veridical oath before them without hesitation, the two watched as the skies of the Shadow Plane briefly split apart to reveal the overwhelming might and majesty of the heavens above.

Though, just as brief as it had appeared, that overwhelming might did not take long to disappear as well, returning the space to how it was just a few monts earlier.

"To be honest, I already had a feeling that this would happen before I returned to the Shadow Plane," said Valyr to the two as he let out a sigh. "This is precisely why I didn’t continue that certain topic earlier."

Seeing the young man look at her, the Serpent Maiden imdiately understood what topic he was hinting at.

"You might be wondering why I thought about hiding it in the first place, right?" he asked soon after, noticing the look on the Serpent Maiden’s face.

The latter nodded in response.

"Pretty simple, really," replied the young man with a slight shrug. "It’s because I already know of the history that happened between the Mystic Plane and the Shadow Plane."

"...!"

For a while after that, the surroundings between the three was enveloped in silence, with none of them wanting to take the initiative to speak.

However, as she thought about the young man’s words from earlier, the Serpent Maiden could not help but notice that there was sothing odd in the forr’s words.

"You ntioned in your oath that your connection with the Mystic Plane involves being its guardian," she said, briefly giving the Overseer a knowing glance. "Then, does that an...?"

"It ans exactly what it ans." Valyr nodded, showing no intention of beating around the bush with his response.

"The Guardian of the Mystic Plane inside my Shadow Plane..." muttered the Overseer in response as a number of emotions appeared on its face not long after.

Fortunately, the being’s expression eventually settled into previous calm as he looked at Valyr once more. "Are you truly not here under the behest of the Mystic Plane?"

At those words, the young man swore yet another oath in the front of the two.

But, unlike before, Valyr swore a mana oath this ti around.

Yet, that was enough for both the Overseer and the Serpent Maiden to understand that the young man before them had truly co to the Shadow Plane without any other intentions.

"This..." Realizing this, the Serpent Maiden did not hesitate to give Valyr an apologetic half-bow. "As the Saintess of the Shadow Plane, let be the first to apologize for the Shadow Plane’s biased stance."

"It’s fine." Seeing that they had finally moved past his connection with the Mystic Plane, the young man inwardly let out a sigh of relief. "We’ve just exchanged a couple of words with each other about it. That’s all."

"Let apologize to you as well," said the Overseer after that, causing both Valyr and the Serpent Maiden to take a step back in slight surprise.

"...What?" Seeing the two take a step back from its words, the Overseer turned to look at the Serpent Maiden with a raised eyebrow. "Is it really that weird for to admit my wrongs?"

"Not really." The Serpent Maiden hurriedly shook her head. "It’s more like you rarely admit it, which is why it’s surprising..."

Not expecting those words to co out of her mouth, the Overseer was briefly left at a loss for words.

Though, seeing that Valyr was still looking at the two of them, the Overseer forcefully cleared its throat as it looked at the young man with a faint smile.

"It seems we’ve gotten off on the wrong foot," it said before extending its hand out for a handshake. "Let properly introduce myself."

"My na is Xervei Nightingale."

"And I... am the Overseer of the Shadow Plane."
