Chi Enen had no idea about the unexpected incident outside the door. She buried herself in work, channeling all her energy into folding the thousand paper cranes.
Finally...
"Done!"
Folding the last one, Chi Enen stretched her back.
Sitting for too long had made her waist stiff, and when she raised her head, the stretched muscles in her back felt both sore and swollen. It took a few seconds for her to adapt to the discomfort before she realized the sky outside had completely darkened.
Oh no!
She picked up her mobile phone from the side and glanced at it. Sure enough, it was already past eight.
She quickly packed up the thousand paper cranes and other items, then hurriedly headed out towards the kitchen.
Before Li Beijue returned, she still needed to prepare a sumptuous al as a surprise to celebrate his birthday.
Most importantly, she wanted to personally bake him a birthday cake!
No sooner said than done!
Despite spending the entire day folding thousand paper cranes and stars, and feeling her whole body ache unbearably, leaving her reluctant to move, she still persevered. With the help of the pastry master, she managed to learn and bake a cake.
After carefully placing the cake where it belonged, she checked the ti.
Eleven o’clock sharp.
Just baking this one cake had taken her a full four hours.
She sped up her pace, preparing Longevity Noodles, kelp soup, and one ho-cooked dish after another.
By the ti she finished the last dish, soone she had stationed to watch the door rushed in, panting heavily, "Miss Chi, Master Jue has returned!"
Chi Enen quickly ladled the freshly made, steaming kelp soup into a serving bowl and had it sent to the arranged location.
Wiping the sweat from her forehead, she washed her hands hastily and asked urgently, "Where is he now?"
"Master Jue just arrived and is about to head to his room."
To his room?
Chi Enen’s heart skipped a beat!
Li Beijue must not go to his room now!
There was still sothing important she hadn’t done!
"Please help deliver the rest to the room. I have sothing to do and need to head out for a mont." With that, she quickly set aside what she was holding and dashed towards the study room.
Once she retrieved the previously prepared thousand paper cranes from the study room, she heaved a sigh of relief and ran downstairs.
The Li family mansion was enormous, including half a mountain within the grounds of a super luxury mansion. In the garden, aside from the typical features such as artificial mountains, fountains, lawns, and flower beds, there was also a purely natural, lavish creek winding through the garden.
The creek was only half a ter wide, with water gently flowing.
Chi Enen crouched by the creek, placing the folded thousand paper cranes, one by one, into the stream water.
On the wings of each paper crane, she had attached two stars. The paper used to make the stars was a special kind with glowing properties, causing each star to emit a faint green light, resembling fireflies in an enchanting way...
As Chi Enen placed them down one by one, her bright eyes glimred with devout prayers.
"I hope he recovers his health soon."
"I hope the new year brings him safety and success."
...
On the second floor.
Li Beijue was walking up the spiral staircase. Suddenly, his gaze was drawn to a soft trail of glowing dots flickering in the darkness outside.
He halted abruptly and looked towards the garden. "What is that?"
The bodyguards trailing behind him also stopped and followed his line of sight. When they saw the shimring, flowing "Star River" in the garden, they froze for a mont. "This... Apologies, Master Jue, we don’t know. We’ll head down to investigate imdiately."
But before they could move, the man at the staircase landing squinted at a slender silhouette erging in his field of vision. His expression changed instantly, and he let out a low growl, "Damn it!"
Without another word, he turned and hurried downstairs.
"Master Jue?!" The bodyguards exchanged baffled glances before rushing after him...
