Dedarose: "Divine Domain? Demigod creatures?"

Diya nodded: "That’s right, all guardian spirits are demigod creatures, but unlike demigod mages, demigod mages find it extrely difficult to travel back and forth to the lower Void Realms, whereas guardian spirits can freely roam these realms."

"The place they most frequently appear is the Sea of Knowledge, shrouded in white mist, where they observe talented mages and choose to beco their guardian spirits. My Bronze Dragon started as my guardian spirit from the Sea of Knowledge."

"Wait, wait..."

Sonia had a bit of trouble digesting it all, "Why do these demigod creatures want to beco the guardian spirits of One-winged Mages? And what impact do guardian spirits have on mages?"

"There are two reasons."

Diya beckoned with a finger, prompting Ash to hold up two fingers, "First, although they are born as demigod creatures of the fifth layer of the Void Realm, they are also incomplete. Simply put, they lack the silver, gold, seven-colored, and colorless Void Wings, which are crucial for creatures of the Void Realm."

"According to the Gospel, native demigod creatures are far inferior to those who have climbed from the lower Void Realm to the Divine Domain. For example, the Fish-Slicing Dragon is only the most powerful being in the fifth layer of the Void Realm."

"To make up for their lack of Void Wings, demigod creatures have found a way to beco guardian spirits for mages."

"Becoming a guardian spirit ans they entrust a part of themselves to the mage’s soul, granting the mage talents that transcend mortal limits, even allowing them to summon the guardian spirit for various benefits. In return, as mages ascend through the Void Realm, the guardian spirits can complete their Void Wings, becoming fully-fledged demigod creatures — though they still can’t defeat a demigod Fish-Slicing Dragon."

"However, a demigod creature can only choose one mage to beco their guardian spirit at a ti, and the number of tis they can make this choice is limited, as splitting their soul is imnsely damaging to any creature."

"The cost is so high, and it often takes mages decades to achieve legendary status from being One-winged, so with every choice of host, a guardian spirit is making a long-term gamble."

"Obviously." Diya looked at Sonia, "Our guardian spirits made the right choice."

Sonia silently agreed, other demigod creatures might invest decades before seeing returns, but they had climbed from the Sea of Knowledge to Ruby Mountain within a year; their guardian spirits were surely grinning from ear to ear.

"So," Felix suddenly asked, "when the host becos a Legendary Mage, is there no need for the demigod creatures to continue as guardian spirits?"

"This leads to the second, most crucial reason." Diya explained, "The reason demigod creatures devised the guardian spirit thod was actually to... protect their own kind."

"Ah?"

Everyone was taken aback, but soon realized sothing.

"If demigod creatures with complete Void Wings can’t defeat a demigod Fish-Slicing Dragon, then even the strongest demigod Fish-Slicing Dragon can’t defeat a demigod mage." Diya elaborated, "In the fifth layer of the Void Realm, demigod mages are the most fearso entities. Faced with mages, demigod creatures are either slaughtered for materials or enslaved as mounts."

"The only salvation for demigod creatures is seeking refuge with a slightly kinder mage. But no matter how kind, a mage is bound to impose extrely harsh demands on demigod creatures."

Diya shrugged, "According to the Gospel’s description, the treatnt of demigod creatures in the fifth layer of the Void Realm isn’t much better than that of placeholders."

Sonia murmured, "So the true aning of a guardian spirit is..."

"’At the mortal stage, I am your guardian spirit, but if you step into the Divine Domain, I will still be your equal guardian spirit.’" Diya said, "Rather than finding a master, demigod creatures would prefer to find a companion."

"There’s a loophole here."

Dedarose pondered, "When demigod creatures look for a host, shouldn’t they be able to implant a master-slave contract or miracle? Wouldn’t it be better to find a slave instead of a companion?"

"I believe there were demigod creatures who wanted to do that in the past," the Witch laughed, "but you might rember the Three Great Angel Inheritances not too long ago?"

Felix imdiately replied, "The Lake Angel, King of Ti, and Ghost Prophet."

Diya said, "Can you imagine them being enslaved by a bunch of placeholders? Or controlled by a Fish-Slicing Dragon?"

Everyone finally understood — guardian spirits are not a compromise from demigod creatures, but from demigod mages.

If a mage steps into the Divine Domain, the presence of a guardian spirit bond serves as a reminder to them, ’I hope you rember our past and treat well,’ but it cannot truly restrain a demigod mage. In other words, there is no stable thod of restraining demigod mages.

And given how much care they received from their guardian spirits in the past, seeing their guardian spirit in a pitifully forlorn state, a mage is typically reluctant to cast it aside, not only willing to protect, but also maintaining an equal relationship.

Even if a guardian spirit has to bow down and act humble, it’s still far better than those demigod creatures flayed and tortured.

Upon hearing this, the group felt both a sense of pride as mages and a peculiar curiosity — just how thorough has the annihilation by those demigod mages been, forcing demigod creatures to train a new, friendly generation from elentary (the Sea of Knowledge)?

Sonia curiously asked, "So, not all mages have guardian spirits?"

"Of course not, only a very small portion of mages do, but all demigod mages have guardian spirits, and they can choose them." Diya replied, "Sotis, a guardian spirit of a lower-level mage suddenly disappears, either killed by a demigod mage or taken by another demigod mage."

The crowd thought of such a plot, it’s almost like watching a wealthy princess being forced to marry another rich guy instead of her promising but poor suitor...

"My guardian spirit was a Bronze Dragon, now it has gathered the Void Wings and evolved into a Bell-ringing Bronze Dragon." Diya finally got to the point: "Even a Legendary Mage would normally require fortuitous opportunities to use the power of a guardian spirit, but the Command Seal Ash gave us has a special effect."

"It can communicate with the entire Void Realm."

Diya turned around, settled into a more comfortable position in Ash’s arms, and held up her right hand to admire the golden pocket watch-like Command Seal. She noticed everyone’s confused looks, "Don’t you understand? It can communicate with the fifth layer of the Void Realm!"

"We can directly tap into the power of our guardian spirits through the Command Seal!" The Witch said slowly, "In a sense..."

"We already possess demigod-level combat power."
