Elara POV
I get out of bed and walk to the bathroom to wash my face. After we returned from Malachi’s, I spent the afternoon crying until I fell asleep. I do not feel better, but I must suck it up and get my head straight before we go to Constantine tonight. The sooner we resolve this drama, the sooner I will be reunited with my daughter.
I find Kane, Axel, and Braden in the kitchen, busy preparing dinner. Axel and Kane have nothing but ten thumbs in a kitchen, but Braden seems to have it all under control. Which is ironic since he is a vampire and does not eat food.
“So, what’s for lunch?” I tease, sitting by the kitchen table.
“Chicken Parsan,” Kane announces proudly.
“Burned chicken parsan,” Braden mutters, and Kane glares at him.
“Well, I’m sure it’ll be good,” I laugh softly.
“Excuse for interrupting the fun,” Mason grunts as he enters the kitchen. “I’m going to town to see Asher.”
“Give him my regards,” I say. “And tons of love for Quinn.”
“Sure,” he replies, less agitated than a mont ago. “Don’t wait up for .”
“But we’re going to Constantine,” Braden frowns. “You know that.”
“Oh, yeah,” Mason replies, looking stunned for a brief second before he composes himself. “I’ll be back in ti.”
“Be safe!” I shout as he turns around and leaves.
“I don’t trust that guy,” Axel mutters under his breath.
“Neither do I,” Braden replies. “But we need him.”
“More accurately, we need his friends,” Kane scoffs.
“I think Mason should be on a need-to-know basis,” I add, and they all turn to in surprise.
“What?” I shrug. “I’m trying to be objective and reasonable.”
“Yeah,” Axel scuffs. “To the point where we think you’re on his side.”
“He’s a dick, and I want to puml his face,” I grunt, balling my fists. “I firmly believe he killed Rhiannon, and I’m not so sure of his innocence regarding my, uh, episodes. But we must be unbiased, because you’re the alphas, and that’s what alphas do. That being said, Mason should be on a need-to-know basis until we know for sure he’s innocent of everything.”
“And that’s why the Council chose you to be our mate,” Axel smiles brightly, pointing a spoon towards and dripping cheese sauce everywhere. “You’re the perfect Luna.”
“Dude, you’re ssing,” Braden says, taking Axel’s arm and redirecting him towards the pot.
“Braden, where are the blueprints?” I ask. “I have an idea.”
“Right here,” he grins, digging in the trash can and pulling out the plans.
“You people cook and clean, but no one ever takes out the trash,” he chuckles. “Except with .”
“Are you guilt-tripping us?” I ask, raising my eyebrows. “Because it’s not working. That’s your chore.”
“I’m an Alpha,” Kane smirks. “I have people taking out my trash.”
“Ditto,” Axel laughs.
“Whatever,” Braden rolls his eyes, placing the plans in front of . “Tell us your idea.”
“I think we should break out Mindy and her mates tonight,” I mumble, studying the plans.
“I thought we were only scouting tonight,” Braden frowns.
“Yeah, and Mason still needs to get his n ready,” Axel adds.
“Nah,” I shake my head. “It’s an unnecessary risk for nothing. Nobody knows Constantine better than Kane and Axel. And we know security is tight and everywhere. No need to risk our lives to see what’s going on. If we want to ride this wild horse, we should do it with a purpose.”
“Okay, then,” Braden sighs. “We’re doing a breakout. Let’s plan and get ready.”
Mason POV
Asher is already waiting for in the park we agreed upon. I park my truck, get out and walk towards him with long strides.
“Oh, wow,” Asher whistles, looking up and down. “You look like shit.”
“Don’t start,” I grunt, pushing my hands into my jeans’ pockets. “I’m aching to beat sothing, and you just might be it.”
“It was only an observation,” he replies, holding his hands up defensively.
“My brothers keep on interfering,” I growl, frustrated. “I just want them to fuck off and die.”
“Well, that’s why we’re doing it, right?” Asher asks. “To kill them.”
“At this point, I don’t even care about the Council anymore,” I huff. “I only want them dead.”
“What’s stopping you?” Asher asks, thoughtfully. “Why the sing and dance when there’s a simple solution?”
“Because it will fuck up my future,” I exhale deeply. “Elara ... I an, Katie, will never forgive, or even like , yet alone love. The Council will hunt for the rest of the days, and let’s not forget about the witches.”
“What about the witches?” He frowns.
“It’s nothing,” I mumble, trying to cover my blunder. “I broke a deal, that’s all.”
“Witches don’t forget that stuff,” Asher shakes his head. “In their eyes, it’s a sin punishable by death.”
“All the more reason to keep my nose clean,” I sigh. “Look, up to now, I have successfully stayed under the Council’s radar and managed to fra Kane for the witch thing. When this is done, I must sll like roses. That’s the only way Katie will accept as her mate.”
“You know I’m on your side,” Asher smiles, patting on the shoulder. “What do you need to do?”
“Take these coordinates to the Council,” I reply, retrieving a piece of paper from my pocket, and hand it to him. “Tell them they’ll find the alphas there. I’ll take care of the rest. Do you still have the potion?”
“Yes,” he says, patting his top jacket pocket. “I’m ready to do what’s needed.”
“Good,” I nod. “And Asher, if sothing goes wrong, leave. I’d rather try sothing else than lose my best friend. Use the burner phone I gave you, and I’ll help you get to safety.”
“I’ll be okay,” he smiles nervously. “But thanks, man. You’re a good friend.”
“Be safe,” I shake his hand, and walk away.
All that is left for to do is delay my brothers from going to Constantine. And to get Elara away from them before the Council arrives.
